Does Cartoon Network Hate And Love Me At The Same Time?
« on: August 10, 2005, 05:34:46 PM »
They love me because the play the finest programing on pay TV. They hate me because they wont keep my favorite show(s) on. Did I do something to deserve this? On the one hand they give me Naruto in english which is fine as long as it not F***** and on the other hand I have to lose Samurai Jack, which is the finest non live-action program on the tube (24 is "satin") . What gives.  My beef is basically this: Why does Jack have to go off the air? They said last year that the show was on hold until "Clone Wars" was finished and now Cartoon Netjerk is putting on some marathon in two weeks then ending the show. There has only been 52-episodes thats not hardly enough.  I have ranted long enough. No point just me ranting and raving.

Yeah, Samurai Jack was a good show. It wasn't the greatest show ever, but it was still enjoyable. Though sometimes he did things that didn't seem to relate to him going back to his own time. Clone Wars kind of sucked. It was relatively pointless. The fact that it was like 5 mins an episode was dumb.

[adult swim] has the best programming on the network. Miguzzi sucks.

If you watch all 25 episodes of Clone Wars(2hrs 03mins) I think you will agree that it is a good as the movies(almost).  AS is really good but evevything pales to Jack. "Jack it's the new Crack". Hey that's A tee-shirt somewhere.

I want to know why the hell they decided to only show Codename KND and the freaking grim show from their original CN libraries.  I also hate the fact that they play does terrible teenage girl shows now where they used to play things like X-Men evolution.

And as a side rant... I can't stand it when people put on these swearing rants about edits CARTOON NETWORK supposedly makes to anime.  They have nothing to do with it.  They didn't butcher your one piece.  They didn't do anything to DBZ.  All they do is push the play button.

Oh, and I'm completely sick of the "american" parts of adult swim.  Family guy and Futurama are alright, but all the other programming is just off the deep end with poop and sex jokes.  I think allowing Williams Street et al to get away with more was the worst thing to happen to them.  Their current stuff completely sucks compared to what they did in the past.

First off: [adult swim] is spelled with the brackets.

2nd: Clone wars straight throught w/o interruption especially the chapter numbers is better than Stars Wars ep. I and II.

3rd: Harvey Birdman is ok. It's been going downhill but still has its moments. ATHF is has its low points. BUt everything else  of the older shows are still. However, I'm not looking foward to a single thing that's comming out. 12 oz mouse sucks, squidbillies sucks, and perfect hair forever stopped being funny after the tree walked in and said, "I like to f*ck dogs! What's up with that?!?".

To be honest the only [adult swim] programs I watch now are Family Guy, Futurama, and Robot Chicken.

I didn't mind Naruto's voice acting.....

You know that time between 2 and 5 when CT replays [AS]? They need to devote that time to subtitled versions of all of their anime. Oh yes.

Woah hay, the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy has turned into a fantastic show.  The invisible farting duck episode was gold, filled with two, yes TWO racial stereotypes and TWO counts of public indecency towards children.

And it was funny too.

actually, that last one is up to interpretation.  It could be from one to about 20 counts of public indecency towards children depending on how you interpret it

Yeah seriously.... I probably laugh out loud at Billy and Mandy more than any show on [adult swim]... well, save for maybe Futurama and Family Guy.

Harvey Birdman is funny, Aqua Teen is hilarious at times but totally stupid at others, Stroker and Hoop kinda is kinda lame but watchable.... however, Tom Goes to the Mayor completely sucks in a complete manner. Futurama and Family Guy are still the best shows, regardless of the fact that I've seen every episode multiple times.

Tom goes to the Mayor is great. One of the few shows on (american) TV that has a complete loser as its star.

Billy and Mandy is good too.

no  one  on  earth  would talk  like naruto  in  real life(even  though  it is a  cartoon)..the japanese voice actor is way more  dramatic sounding...and just pulls o ff t he  voice without sounding weird. I hate anime  voicing..it always sucks. Every  time they dub  it..they always use  the same type of voices. And  it was like Iruka couldnty  even prounce naruto..Hokage  had a  good  voice..but he didnt sound old  enough. ands wtf  was up with Sakura...it  was really pathetic. They  really need to  hire  better actors...look at  the simpsons....the simpsons has  great voices which have  really stood  up(though  they have changed over the years...but they are  great)

Seriously, coming from someone who hasn't watched ANY subbed Naruto... I thought the voices were pretty good.

I think much of the reason people prefer subs to dubs is that they watch the subs first.  They personally relate to those voices, so any changes suck.

I can use two personal examples from DBZ back in the day.

Watching when it was first picked up by CN... I was incredibly frustrated when it changed from the original dubs to the new ones.  It seriously pissed me off when they changed all the voices.

Then after 100 episodes of the new, I was used to it.

Recently I got my hands on some DBZ dvds....  AND I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND Goku's JP voice.  Ugh...

See...  It all comes down to what you watch first and what you get used to.

I'm very excited about Naruto on CN and I can't wait for next week.

Pale is right. If you forget the fact that we've seen 150-plus episodes of Naruto w/ jap voices, the english dub would not be that bad at all (Sounded good to me). They kept all the great music from the original (save for the opening and ending) They tried pretty hard to pronounce their names right and the stuff the edited out wasn't that major to the story anyway.

I think that the reason most people like subbed anime more is because in japanese just about everything you say sounds dramatic to english ears.  The way they enunciate makes the simplest things sound heavy and bold to the non-japaneses. Plus the fact they take their work much more seriously the their american counter part or it seem so on the surface.

ALL IN ALL I THOUGHT IT CAME OUT PRETTY GOOD. PERHAPS MY EXPECTAIONS WERE QUITE LOW AND ANYTHONG HALFWAY DECENT WOULD LEAVE ME HAPPY.  NEXT: BLEACH AND PRINCE OF TENNIS.

heres the thing though....no one talks like that...he has that lame generic accent every anime character seems to get..but soudns completely unatural....and to top that off he sounds like gohan from dbz.....

if you want to know what im talking about as far as anime accent watch strongbads japanese cartoon short e-mail.

why does everyone in those cartoons have to talk like that? Anime get terrible voice actors..why? I remember when i used to watch cartoons like tiny toons and animaniacs, the simpsons, ren and stimpy and Zim..those all have great voice work...

naruto sounds like he's voiced by a guy trying to sound like a boy..which doesnt really worked...in japan naruto is voiced by a chick..it always works better...it eliminates the struggle to sound young, because women just have higher voices(although they are still lowe then childrens voices), bart simpson is voiced by a chick and he sounds completely natural.

I liked konohamuru's teacher though...he seemed to best capture the character without having to copy the voice.
Also hokage was pretty good..but naruto..the most important voice was ruined..along with sasuke, and sakura(what little you heard from them)

I don't think the talent is any worse when it comes to voice actors in animes, the environment makes it a lot harder on them.  When a cartoon is made here, the voice actors record, and the animators mesh with the voice.  When a voice actor has to try and fit their voice to an already animated scene, the extra effort involved will take a bit from their talent.

Like I said before... I can understand the complaints with Naruto's voice... it was a bit annoying.... but I think the actor will come into her own as the series progresses and it will get better.  You see that with all animes.

Again, coming from someone who hasn't seen any subbed Naruto (purposely) I thought the rest of the voices were very good.

If you compare the simpsons voice work season 1 to season 6 you'll see a big difference as well.  Even in Japan Naruto has been on for six season and all the characters have grown with the series, it's just harder to tell if you don't speak or understand japanese.

Sakura's Voice is annoying but so is her character so I believe it fits.

For the franchises sake, and the hopeful chance of Naruto games coming to America I serisously hope the general public thinks the voices are good enough and the whole thing is still sucessful.
