Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 118: Tropical Smoothie
« on: January 29, 2014, 09:27:18 AM »
Oh man!  Bummer!  Yeah, I've been really careful not to watch videos and stuff.  And every time the game has come up on a podcast (the ones here at NWR, as well as stuff like Weekend Confirmed), I just skip ahead!  I think it's fine to talk about "spoilerish" stuff after a certain point, but warnings are crucial.

First of all - thanks to everyone involved in the show.  I look forward to it every week!

Secondy - WTF, guys!  I feel like I have to say, "Watch the Spoilers!".  So, I know that Super Mario 3D World has been out for just over 2 months... but I personally don't have it yet.  My birthday was a week ago today and my family ordered it for me.  It is supposed to arrive today and I am totally pumped.

So, last night I booted up this latest edition of Connectivity (which, I have been a listener of since the first episode of "Newscast").  Anyways, Mike brings up Super Mario 3D World and before I have time to get my ipod out of my pocket to push the skip button, he drops a spoiler bomb!  Specifically - the last boss of the game.  Now, of course it's not THAT much of a spoiler, being a Mario game and all, but hey - you never know.

I guess my thing is - if you know it's a huge spoiler (to quote Alex, "That was actually a mad huge spoiler."), then please bleep it out or something.  Or add a warning at the beginning of the segment (maybe in post-production?).  Of course, I'll continue to listen and support the show, but I was just disappointed that it was spoiled for me on the eve of me playing the game.

Again, thanks again for all the work you guys do!

Yeah.... I know everyone is saying this, but I just wish they would release more games on VC!!  I don't have any type of classic/pro controller because I used to use my Gamecube Wavebird, so I have a bunch of SNES games just sitting there in Wii Mode - unable to be played.  I can't spare the cash right now to buy a new controller, so it's just frustrating...

This game looks so good.  They showed so many new power-ups.  I haven't been this excited for a game in a while!

I think this hardware is great.  It looks like a modern day Game & Watch!

Since I can't download the game right now I went and watched the ND Mini to get some hype going (as if I needed it for this title) and I must say..

If Trinnen ever gets canned from Nintendo, he'll have a decent career in the hand modeling business. Did you see how perfectly he highlighted that players guide!?

Dude.  I laughed out loud when he did that.  That was so hilarious.

This one might seem silly, but I played the heck out of Mario Kart 64.  I tried for hours to get over the fence on the Moo Moo farm track.  I wanted to drive around in there and see what was over those hills!  I also loved the fact that you could drive right up to Peach's castle on another track.  That was such a cool find.

This game just keeps growing on me.  I actually just beat it this morning.  There is a cool feature added after you beat the game.  When you enter a level, there is a red box with a Mario "M" on it.  If you hit that block it changes Luigi's physics to Mario's for that level.  Basically, you're Mario with a Luigi skin.  I guess this would come in handy if there's a difficult Star Coin, and you'd be more comfortable using Mario's physics to reach it.

Uncle Bob,

Thanks for the reply.  I should have read the fine print.  Still, 20 extra coins is great.

I see that 20 points were added to my account today due to the WiiU VC promotion.  However, I bought 2 games during the promotion period.  I assumed I would get 20 points for each, totalling 40 points.  Did anyone else buy more than 1 game and get more than 20 points?

86
Thanks, Shaymin!

So, I'm sure most of you saw the promotion going on this weekend.  Looks like a great way to earn a few additional coins.  This leads me to a question.

Here's my scenario.  I currently have 500 Wii Points left over for the Wii Virtual Console (which I can access via Wii Mode on my Wii U).  Anyways, I realize this promotion is only for virtual console games on Wii U.  So, if I use my 500 Wii points to purchase Mega Man in Wii Mode, then upgrade it for Wii U through the Wii U eShop, do you think this purchase will qualify for the current promotion?

Hey, this happens to me, too.  Like every time I use those apps.  Did you ever send yours in?  What happened?

Man, I was hoping for a big WiiU showing for this week's downloads... being E3 and all.  Actually, I thought there would be some WiiU Virtual Console news announced.  I guess not.

90
I just hope you can play the slots in between levels to earn 1ups!

It's honestly silly that it's taken this long.  The multi-colored Toads never made sense to me.  It's not like there's a lack of characters to choose from, even if it wasn't Princess Peach.

I know this is due to watching the trailer on my crappy computer, but for almost the entire trailer I thought they were showing the Gamecube version.  I kept waiting for them to reveal the updated look.

I'm still predicting that the next 3D Mario will be a successor to Galaxy and will be called "Super Mario U-niverse"

I watched "My Nintendo Hoard".  Wow, dude.  That's a lot of stuff.  And that was almost 2 years ago!  I can't imagine what you've accumulated at this point.  Question - do you keep a spreadsheet or something to keep track of everything you've collected?  You have so much stuff it must be to the point where you don't even know what you have without documentation.

Justin, I enjoy these videos, too, especially when you have really old stuff on there.  I have to ask, though, where do you store all this stuff????  It would be awesome if you posted some pics of your massive collection, or maybe even made a video just walking through everything you have on display/in storage.

98
Thanks Shaymin!  I didn't know that was the rule for eshop games.

So, I was going to save this survey for the next Club Nintendo year (since I've already reached Platinum), but it says it expires June 1st.  That's a tight window.  Does anyone know if it's June 1 2013 or June 1 2014?
