Episode 2: I'll Take Jeopardy and Kirby for $200!
« on: October 01, 2011, 11:18:06 AM »

Connectivity returns this week with Kirby Mass Attack and NWR Jeopardy.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/connectivity/27962

Welcome to this week's episode of NWR Connectivity! We decided there wasn't very much news to talk about after last week's TGS-palooza, so instead we have two segments for you today.

In the first, Neal, Scott, James, and Nate get together and talk about the recently-released Kirby Mass Attack for the Nintendo DS. If you have allergic reactions to cute things, stay clear of this game.

After that, James and and Nate stick around to play the very first game of NWR Jeopardy, hosted by Zach and Andy. Wait until you see who takes home all that imaginary money. This segment was a lot of fun, and we will be looking to do another game with listeners playing in the future, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

We'll be reading a whole lot listener mail next week, so if you have any questions for us, send 'em to connectivity@nintendoworldreport.com. Thanks, and enjoy!

I enjoyed jeopardy allot, but it needs some refinement. The players should have specific sfx buzzers they press. Did I miss the final jeopardy question, cuz I didn't catch it

I thought the jeopardy segment was fun to listen to but I'd like to second Vega's feedback about it as well. More regular score recaps would be nice too since its audio, I know score doesn't matter but its funny to know how far into the negatives everyone is XD (i probably wouldn't do much better though)

The final Jeopardy was at 55 minutes, they just didn't announce it as the final jeopardy and just jumped into it.

So are you guys taking listener submissions for Jeopardy categories? What would be the best way to submit that?

Shaymin - PM me. I'm making the next round's questions.

Keep the Jeopardy feedback coming. It was a blast to do, but I know we need to refine it. The only way we'll know exactly what to refine is what you guys say (for the most part).

The Jeopardy segment was a blast. At the end of the first round I wasn't expecting everyone to pull themselves out of the negative. Those first round questions were really brutal and the difficulty curve was all over the place. You probably want to either keep the difficulty pretty even or start hard and end easy so you don't send everyone in to the negatives since later rounds are worth more unless you want everyone to fight over whose less negative.

I guess they are using text buzzers so they have a quick record as to who buzzed first. A sound buzzer would be utter chaos and far more confusing than the current system. Once they had established the system where they called out who gets to answer, it worked much better.

They need to clean up the sound or get some people better mics and level the volumes better. It's not loud, normal is fine, but there are a lot of quiet people.

Keep the first segment(Everything non-Jeopardy) as is. A bunch of guys shooting the breeze. It helps differentiate this from the "official" podcast which is a lot more structured. Keep this free formed.

Well, Jeopardy's not going to be a weekly thing by any means. I wouldn't mind doing it monthly, though, and while there are certainly bugs to be worked out, the idea is solid. I hear you about the question difficulty--I totally blame Andy and his damn obsession with Zelda 2. :-)

And maybe I won't troll everybody when I write the Final Jeopardy question next time.

It doesn't have to be Jeopardy. It could be Wheel of Fortune(Update the podcast picture with every letter), the Price is Right(Mix up the currencies and launch price non-adjusted), I survived a Japanese Game Show(A series of Japan only questions written by the Famicast).

Troll away as long as you know when to troll. Use a random number generator to sprinkle the trolling if your not going to front load it.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. We'll take it all into consideration next time we do the show. Like oohhboy pointed out, we were using the skype chat to buzz in, just going by whoever typed a letter first. Sound buzzers would be hard to do live, but I suppose it's something we could possibly add in post just to make it a little clearer who buzzes in. We'll see about that.

Yeah, that's something I'm working on. I tried to mix the each track roughly to an equal level, but it varies at times. I've got ideas to fix this.

Again, thanks everyone for the feedback! In the future, we are going to do another episode of Jeopardy with listeners playing, so be on the look out for that!

It would be cool to let us suggest categories and submit questions/answers for you to use. Perhaps you can make a listener submitted category.

Great idea. If anyone has categories or questions/answers they'd like us to consider using, send them to us. Put "Jeopardy suggestions" in the subject line. I'm not sure when we'll do Jeopardy again, but we'll be sure to take them into consideration!
