Those Poké-critters sure now how to push game consoles in Europe.

POKéMON STRIKES BIG ON THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE!

Adding to the catalogue of Pokémon successes over the years, the launch of Pokémon Colosseum has lifted Nintendo GameCube hardware sales by over 80% across the UK in its first 7 days of release, more than doubling it's UK market share to take a quarter of the UK home console market. Pokémon fever is alive and kicking!

Pokémon Colosseum launched to rave reviews in the UK on 14th May 2004 and marked the biggest launch for a Nintendo GameCube title this year. In addition to the game, which included a free Memory Card 59, the incredible Pokémon Colosseum Mega Pak also launched on the same day. The Mega Pak contains a copy of Pokémon Colosseum plus a Nintendo GameCube, a Memory Card 251, a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable and the Pokédex Organiser, Pokémon Box and is available for around 159 Euros. For a taster of how Pokémon Colosseum has been received so far, check out the following quotes -

# Disney's Big Time, 21/5/04 "If you're a Poké-fan then check it out – this is an absolute must-have."

# Total DVD, May 2004 "A colossal 3D adventure for the GameCube..it allows you to train, snag, and battle your Pokémon like never before."

# Games Master, May 2004 "What a difference playing in 3D makes! The Pokémon world has rarely been so much fun. Thoroughly recommendable."

# NGC, February 2004 "(Pokémon Colosseum) offers a colossal amount of fun...you'll be hard pushed to find a more complex, absorbing and engaging title".

With the total number of Pokémon games sold in Europe exceeding 25 million and the hugely successful Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire for Game Boy Advance having sold over 3 million in Europe last year, the Pokémon phenomenon looks set to continue.

Pokémon Colosseum is the first 3D Pokémon game for the Nintendo GameCube to feature an amazing Battle Mode and a Pokémon adventure Story Mode. Pokémon Colosseum allows you to explore, train, snag and battle your Pokémon like never before! You can even connect your GBA Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire cartridges and bring your own Pokémon over from these games into Pokémon Colosseum to use them in battles.

Pokémon Colosseum launched across Europe on 14 May 2004 at the price of around 60 Euros. The Pokémon Colosseum Mega Pak also launched on 14 May 2004 across Europe at the price of around 159 Euros.

Why anyone would buy a Gamecube for Pokemon Colisseum is beyond me...

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Again, we see GameCube catering to the audience that doesn't help it a whole lot in the long run.

Well selling Gamecubes is a good thing but I'm really disappointed that it's this title doing it. Colossseum is a very average game. Even my brother the supreme Pokemon fanatic got bored of it and he's beaten the original Red/Blue like three different times. Worst of all it sends the message to Nintendo that they can half-ass a Pokemon 3D "RPG" and the fans will still buy it. At this rate we'll never get a "true" Pokemon 3D RPG that involves catching wild Pokemon and going from town to town collecting badges. It's sad that despite the huge sales for this game and the Stadium titles Nintendo doesn't realize that a really well done 3D RPG would sell even bigger and would be a huge system seller for the Cube.
