I wonder how much SD cards are going for nowadays.  The only way I can imagine having a good amount of songs and perhaps a movie would be a gigabite really (then again compression because of the small screen could help..)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: pico chat
« on: December 03, 2004, 05:33:21 AM »
Wifi isnt used by any games yet.  Nintendo has talked about bringing games online but it hasnt gone down yet.  I wouldnt hope for it for a YEAR.  Let alone in games coming out in the next few months.

If you want to chat, go to aim.com and download aim.  Sorry, the DS pictochat program is a neat little thing but its main function seems to be for when someone is in the relative same area as you (same house, a floor or two up in a building etc) but cannot talk to you in person for some reason.  Seems kind of pointless in a way but I guess it could be used for classrooms (I wish DS was around when I was in high school ).  Besides that you cant use pictochat and play games at the same time.  So far multiplayer games dont seem to have chat built in, which makes sense considering somewhat limited screen space in a portable (yes even with two screens).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Sawaru: Made in Wario impressions
« on: December 03, 2004, 05:26:29 AM »
The problem is that it was pretty much the same game.  They were so lazy they didnt even bother properly adjusting the graphics to work on a TV screen.  The mutiplayer was fun and some things were neat (for some reason I loved the music videos that were in the game), but for an extremely creative and fresh game like Wario Ware the sequel seemed kind of forced.

I love Full Metal Alchemist.  As soon as I heard it I was like... "NO WAY!"  I love DS and I love FMA (my fav anime) and its music.   Strange how everything comes full circle eh?

The sound quality left something to be desired though... maybe its just that those guys sucked at playing

It sounds like standard wario ware.  Thats great though, Wario Ware was a great game and I was for a time worried that its sequels were gonna be reduced to unimaginative games like the Gamecube version.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Not that bad
« on: December 03, 2004, 05:16:22 AM »
I got all 150 stars yesterday too.  Strange.

***Spoilers***

I was really disapointed in what was in the fourth door, just a secret star?  How lame.  And the final luigi bunny on the rooftop is... a harder version of the lackluster Super Mario slot?!?  Cmon, they shouldve saved the bo bomb minigame (the one where you seperate red and black, best one IMO) for last.  And ofcourse there isnt a yoshi on the roof, kinda disapointing considering all the hard work I put in to collect all the stars.

****End Spoilers*****

I used the DPad for most of the game, though every now and then for things like sneaking up on enemies I used the touch pad (its very convenient that you dont even need to switch to do this).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Super Mario 64 DS Help Thread
« on: December 01, 2004, 10:44:07 AM »
The power flower is in a red box not too far above the cage I believe.

Speaking of luigi here is a tip for everyone.  Luigis backflip is the best move in the game, when you do it he sort of spins down in a helicopter type motion (think of DKs up B move in SSBM).  It is ridiculously high and goes a very long distance.  This makes a lot of stars that used to be very hard to obtain almost too easy.

Okay I have one, hope someone can help me.  In the Tall Tall mountain stage, there is a star called "5 secrets of the mountain."  I assume its like that Dry Wet land place where I have to find five specific places and get a star from that but I havent even found one of these places!  I remember getting all 120 stars from the original but I dont remember this one...

LOL, that sounds hilaroius.  I actually freaked out my friend the other day when I showed him my DS.   "Its out already?!?" is the reaction Im getting from game enthusiasts and "What is that?" is what Im getting from casual gamers.

Both however, are really impressed when I show them just how good Mario 64 looks on the DS, a lot better than a lot of them remember atleast.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS Defect?
« on: November 23, 2004, 06:37:38 AM »
Play a game, its usually a tiny little spec thats white or red.  It only shows up when you turn it on and no matter what its the same color.  Try it with different games and see if its still there (and make sure to try to whipe it off, to make sure its not dust or something).

If it is and you dont have your reciept... well I would try the store anywho.  Maybe try calling first?  Though I would think that if its a store like Gamestop and maybe the guy remembers you, they would exchange it.   If not contact Nintendo and they will ship you a replacement.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo DS Online?
« on: November 23, 2004, 05:14:48 AM »
I still think its neat with pictochat, its like passing notes in class... IN THE FUTURE!!!

Seriously though I think theres a lot of potential there.  Plus you could just crack it open to see if anyone in an area is using a DS, wouldnt that be neat?  Nice way to pick up chicks me thinks.

I had that problem when I bought a GBA SP, I took it to the store with a receipt and they gave me a new one no problem.

Let this be a lesson to potential DS owners, KEEP the receipt.

Yeah that interview had some SERIOUS tension.  I can just imagine her with a smart alecky voice and Billy with a very accusing tone.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Silicon Knights still working on games for GC
« on: November 20, 2004, 06:15:12 AM »
At first I was greatly dispointed that Silicon Knights left Nintendo, but considering how many games they have released in the alst 4 years (2).  And the fact that half of them were remakes, I dont mind so much anymore.  Its the exact same story as Rare.  Would we all be incredibly happy to play that Ghoulies game?

Wow, Kaplan came off as a bit of an.... annoying person Ill just say

Billy brings some good points against the DS but I would go as far as to say he sounds a bit bitter towards Nintendo in general.  This isnt an absolutely stellar launch but it is a decent one and it does have fun games...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: NDS-GBA Connctivity Unlockables Confirmed
« on: November 19, 2004, 05:24:43 AM »
The ideal thing would be if you could transfer file data from your GBA game to the DS.  For example, it would be great if you could transfer your game from Golden Sun 2 to Golden Sun DS (or whatever its gonna be called).

I havent been watching TV... for a few months now.  Is there any commercials for the DS, at all?  I mostly spend my time studying and being on campus all the time, so I know Im pretty much disconnected from the world in a way, but no one else seems to be aware of it.  Thats where I think Nintendo is dropping the ball.  TV should be flooded with commercials about the DS, hell I even saw Halo 2 being talked about it newspapers, why not the DS (which IMO is better and much more significant).

21
Most people I know dont even know what the DS is.  I mean, I went to a Christians on Campus meeting last week and everyone was talking about Halo 2 (a bunch of 40ish year old guys mostly).  I ask all my friends if they know about the DS and only very few know, and those who do are really into games, and even then they dont neccesarily have a positive image of it.  The sad thing is Im on a college campus, arent we Nintendos target audience.

This is nobodys fault but nintendo.

So what if the multiplayer doesnt fit into the storyline.  Like people were complaining when it Halo a bunch of Master Chiefs were going around killing eachother.

And half the fun of Metroid is that its so different.  In what other multiplayer deathmatch game can you turn into a little ball and roll away?  This is not a FPS, its very different, it has its simularities to be sure, but a very different animal.  One of the fun things it looks like is that the game doesnt have instant kills and that type of thing, its not just a matter of getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time but a matter of you actually do in the battle.  And hey running away is actually a factor!  I think multiplayer metroid has a lot of potential.

Actually mine is already preordered and paid for but the thing is my ex GF bought it for me and she lives about 6 hours away (Im in college right now).  Im going over the weekend afterwards to pick it up and because its my birthday.  Wow, I guess I will technically be having a DS party after all

The thing is that I think you would have to be way too precise if you use a touchscreen with punchout.  I think they should just do an old school punchout (but the graphics closer to the NES version).  Also they could have Doc on the bottom screen (or someone telling you what to do and the actual boxing on the top screen.  The oriiginal punchout for the arcades used two screens actually.

I think of all the features the microphone is sorta the most useless and annoying actually.

Have y'all ever seen those N-Gage commercials where those guys are playing N-Gage in a public place and they suddenly yell something like "GET DOWN!" and everyone is sorta freaked out?  Well what if you were in a public place and started yelling "DOOM!  FIRE! ATTACK!"  Not a very reasonable thing to do IMO.  Not to mention that there are other outside noises that could interupt and as Malificent Ogre pointed out, voice recognition is a bitch.
