Odd, why do they refuse? Doesn't NPD pay stores for numbers?

Actually what NPD  takes an avg of XXX amount of stores to figure out it's totals.  For example if Target gets 100 titles and sold 50 that's a 1/2 sold so if Walmart gets 400 of the same title they figure 200 sold baised on what target sold.  It's more complex than that but you get the idea and NPD states so right on their charts usually about how much is guess work.

And you have to factor in what the "term" shipped and sold mean to a publisher/manufactor.  Alot of mom's and pop's stores buy games for resell but publishers count them as sold even though it's sitting on a shelf.

Sega might actually be off in this case and boosting numbers for their own interests--namely they were 100+ million in the loss for the quarter so they had to try to spin that around.  And if you read the article it stated to both markets meaning Europe too.  Just because the game isn't out for 1 week doesn't mean the pre-orders couldn't have been counted.

So yeah, NPD isn't perfect but what else are we going use :0.

Pretty sure Sega was counting sales to resellers there. Still shows the confidence people had in The Conduit if the initial shipment was only 150k for what was hyped as an AAA blockbuster game.

I won't buy MadWorld because it's not available here due to excessive violence. Not that I really care though...

Mom and Pop shops all but don't exist now though, and the few remaining probably didn't order too many, if any, copies of the Conduit. I wonder if NPD tracks 7-11.

Yeah, that's always annoyed me. When publishers say "sold", they usually mean sold to retailers (i.e. shipped).

According to some, the past few Sonic games have been great. I'm a little surprised to hear them praise the game so, but they exist.

I can say it's good because the the old Sonic games weren't.  Took nearly 20 years for a Sonic game to come out that I can stand, other than the ones with Mario.

I think people need to stop being so attached to old mascots. What do people expect from a Sonic or Kid Icarus revival anyway? The characters are somewhere between paper-thin and completely retarded and the gameplay would not be anything like the old one anyway.

WSR Sells 500k through Aug. 3rd.

Quote from: Nintendo
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo has provided staycations to thousands of people nationwide since the July 26 launch of its Wii Sports Resort™ game. More than 500,000 units of the game for the Wii™ console sold in the United States through Aug. 3, according to Nintendo’s internal tracking numbers. The collection of 12 fun resort-themed sports lets players of all ages escape to a tropical island for some year-round summer fun. The game comes with one Wii MotionPlus™ accessory, which brings unmatched accuracy to games that have been specially designed for it.

“Through Monday we sold one copy of Wii Sports Resort roughly every 1.5 seconds continuously since it launched in the United States,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “This tells us consumers were eagerly waiting to get their hands on these fun activities, and it’s a great start for a game that will have long-lasting appeal.”

Wii Sports Resort includes archery, Swordplay, table tennis, basketball, golf, bowling, Air Sports, Power Cruising, Frisbee®, cycling, canoeing and wakeboarding. The game is easy enough for novices to pick up but contains a tremendous amount of variety and depth to keep veteran players and their friends and family members entertained for hours on end.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com.

Wii Sports Resort is available at a suggested retail price of $49.99. Additional Wii MotionPlus accessories are available at a suggested retail price of $19.99 each. For more information about Wii Sports Resort, visit www.WiiSportsResort.com.

if you take the 763k WSR sold in Japan + the minimum of 300k M+ sold on its own over a month ago
take the 500k WSR sold in the US add that to the last known sold for TW of 273k + the 169 M+ sold on the solo in the US (as of June NPD)

Add in an estimate for GST and any M+ sold individually on he other side of the pond and I think M+ has crossed over the 2.5mill mark WW in a little over a month and a half. I wonder what 3rd parties have planned for M+ now that it has made its mark.
