(But then that's that whole "We are going to port everything good on the DC that was first party" thing too.)

Putting that aside though.  Nintendo having a few spooky titles on it isn't totally unheard of.  Now I be shocked if they announced a first party one.

Lets face it.  Superman is great and everything.  He can do a lot.  But in the end he's no Bruce Wayne.  He's smart but come on Batman is a "normal" guy for the most part and he can defeat every different villian on the sun.  I'm leaving this alone now.

To the people worrying about the controller and processore usage.  I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo had a processor dedicated to doing the logic for the four controllers and there attachments.  I wouldn't be surprised one bit.

Hold off on the wife until you get the job.  Trust me.

None of those stats are really that unrealistic in the processor and memory area.

Your analyst is as good as the real peoples.  I assure you.

I'm with ThePerm on this one, (does that mean I'm with Ian by extension? ).  Nintendo also has specialized hardware that makes things work better than what they would on an equivalent system.  Even todays computers have a hard time emulating the N64.  I'm sure in the key areas they will have some really nice hardware dedicated stuff that you would be stupid not to use, hopefully compression and decompression is one of them.

Ironically enough I know more people who bought a diamond ring on impulse than a game console.  Also handhelds seem to also be bought more on impulse than home consoles.  (I had a friend pick up a PSP on a whim.  Just because and hevwas ho humming just a little earlier in the week about maybe getting a game.)

Virtue quest has been released?  You know this time around was notorious for releases getting sucked in the wash but old/bad games staying around forever.

Animecyberrat you made a good point even if you weren't trying to.  Sega does release certain franchises exclusively for certian consoles that they beleive have the proper demographic for it.  That being said it makes perfect since to put Sonic on the GCN because that is where most of the "older" gamers are.  Though I got a Saturn and been meaning to get NiGHTS Into Dreams, that was the only reason I got the system.   I hear its the cat's meow.  Everyone keeps saying that it was the pinnacle of Sega.  If so why hasn't it been remade or re-released?  So I'm going to play it and see if it's just a fond memory or not.

Methinks that would be a great unlockable by beating x amount of games a certian games or series.

I found the survey one unpolished and thrown together.  Nothing like how the Cubes was.  I expect on par with the Cubes menu or better thats all.

Ok, I'll admit I haven't quite finished reading the whole thread but this is interesting to boot.

(From an inflation calculator using the Consumer Index)

What cost $199.99 in 1985 would cost $354.91 in 2005.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2005 and 1985,
they would cost you $199.99 and $112.69 respectively.

So lets do a little math.  In all actuality each Rev , taking in account inflation, that is sold will be worth $154.92 less than if that was instead sold as a NES at it's launch date.  So it takes roughly two Revs at a $199.99 price point to equal the same amount of money for Nintendo as a single NES at launch.  When you look at it this way.  Yes it does seem that the Rev is due for a price hike.  I mean you can only be $199 for so long.    Games consoles, no matter how much they are, are not impulse buys.  Anything that is not the size to easily shop lift will not be an impulse buy.  At the very least you have to gauge whether you'll have room for it in the car or whether you want to carry it.  Ther are other reasons but that's the best I can think of right this second.

Ok I just finished reading this and since I'm the last post I'm going to just edit it.  On the whole Mario sports games.  They are solid games with loose neat ideas like powerups and weird styles of play that you couldn't do without the trust that a franchise name brings.  Just remember that I believe it was Sega that made a soccer game that was different like Super Strikes is for the Cube a couple years back but no one wanted to take a chance with it so it's gone now.

On another note.  Does anyone else see anything wrong on that top selling list?  Why is Luigi Mansion and Smash Brothers both on it.  Those are pretty much launch titles.  Grant it that Smash Brothers is an excellent game that everyone recommends while Luigi mansion might be good, I haven't put serious time in it, but it really doesn't seem ot have the clout of Smash Brothers.  Yet there they are on the list in the end of a console lifetime.  That's unprecedent almost.  Most of the time launch titles do not dominate like that throughout the whole lifetime of the system.  Because just be virtue of being on the top like that most people who own a system will have it compared to the newer games.  It's just odd and can be a sign of how weak the titles were this time around.

I think Mickey mouse is fighting for his life right now.  It's about time for him to become public domain.  Disney definitely does not want that.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sonic Revolution
« on: January 20, 2006, 03:07:23 PM »
There is an obvious solution for the whole control thing.  Take the controller, turn it on its side, that right just like that , and play it NES style and make it a 2D game with life like graphics.    Why not.

On the not of turning Sonic and people having trouble I personally find that I'm trying to control characters like I would in real life.  So I assume that the faster I'm going the harder it should be for me to turn.  In most games that is far from the truth and it makes the controls plain just too loose for me.

Divx movies got a similar poll and, I don't have the link right now, the Rev is getting pretty soundly creamed.  But on the flipside over a qaurter of the people are saying there not going to get any of them.

I'm going to say this to have it out there.  Nintendo was a toy company to start with.  A little fun factiods is that they were the first to have plastic collectable cards.  In fact cards was one of there big things originally.  Now they are a Videogame company but that market has a very close tie in with Toys, other forms of games, and all other forms of visual Entertainment in general.  So for them it would be good if all those markets were doing well.  So it makes since for them to invest at least a portion of there profits into other companies in those related fields to, at the very least, help keep those industries alive and well.  So Nintendo having Bandia, which covers a lot of those areas, just to have Bandia makes sense as well.

In way this is sort of like how in cartoons that what is considered an American Cartoon has an overarching story art but is made in such a way that you can jump in at anytime and not be lost.  Each episode is consice and does not necessarily need the others to be understood.  Though it helps.  While on the other hand we have Anime which known for it's strong story arch and made in such a way that if you don't see the other parts you be lost.  American cartoonist have a hard time with Anime style cartoons and Anime cartoonist have a hard time with American style cartoons.  Good example, Invasion America and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

That being said Games are probably the same.  The genre we like are the ones we identify with most and have a talent at doing.

So to put it bluntly.  Nintendo needs more American 3rd party support and maybe an American active 1st party division.  We need a Miyamoto of our own.  From what I can tell Europe has a much more active third party arena.  Though to my knowledge there isn't very many US Developers period.  How is Nintendo going to get support for the system if there is no one to support it.  I work in a multi-national small business.  I like all the people who you would consider foriegn here but, I have a hard time relating to them because we don't share many common experiences.  Nintendo of America needs to stop being so dependant  and start getting there own talent and actively recruiting US developing houses.  There are lots of "in" jokes and other things in a game produced in a certian region.  It happens subconciously.  Sort of like you never here of anyone being in the marching band in a high school game from Japan.  Which is common in the US.  To get more US gamer, especially non-gamers, you need to have people developing games that know the culture, live the culture... Well you just need Americans to make American games.  They need more of those types of games.  It's a rant and after looking through it I don't know if what I'm trying to say is clear.  I just can't think of a good way to put it into words.

Megaman given the Metriod Prime Treatment.  Though it would have to be third-person because how else would you see the costume change?  Though I have to say I like the Megaman series a lot more when it didn't look kid-die.  I mean there were interesting enemies and all.  I don't want it to go to the gritty angst filled X direction.  But I would like it to be more metallic less Noggin like.   Also whose idea was it to make it so that whenever anyone out in kid-die with it's actual spelling that it would become I LOVE HALO 2?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution launches in November

On the topic of feeling old.  I remember the days when I thought the only way to get on the web was to use AOL and than to find something you had to use a Gopher.  I'm really not that old.  Just 23...

On the topic of PS3 and Rev having the same release month if not date.  That would be very interesting.  Many people be torn.  In fact it might be anarchy at some game retailers because both sides have there Zealots.  Could you think of the promotions.

"Get the next gen launch combo.  For under a $1000, aka 999, get a PS3, Rev, an extra controller for each, extra memory card for each, the DVD thingies for both, a game for each, and a "I'm not bias, I just love games" shirt."

That would be insane.  Ironically enough, though, I would have no trouble strolling past all the PS3ites and going to the counter, "Sir, I like a Revolution."
Pay. Walk out.

But in all actuallity a launch like that would be very hard on most the retailers.  I mean they love the profits but the extra manpower you need for platform launches.  Well...  It be a lot of work for only a few people.

Also there be this scenario, "Sir, I'm sorry we don't have anymore PS3's because Sony has no forward thinking ability.  What I do have is the Revolution.  It's better, cheaper, and instock because Nintendo knows how to have hardware for a launch."

Another fun one would be:

While waiting in line for his PS3, which he preoredered to boot, Timmy notices something.
Something shiny, something white.
Looks cool and comforting.
He just wants to hold it.
Play with it.
Love it.
Look it's right by him.
He wouldn't lose his place in line.
So why not play?
"You know this is fun," thought Timmy as he prepared a virtual meal.
Then the line moves on.
"Here is your PS3 Timmy, enjoy."
Dun dum dee dun~.  Timmy has Acquired a PS3.  (One of the lucky few who did)
Timmy gets home and hooks it up.
The graphics are wonderful.
The gameplay is tired.
The Online not there.
Staring at his boomerang Timmy declares, "This will do to fill my fix for a while but when it comes out I will sell it and by my glimmer"
Poor Timmy was hooked by it's lucious curves and sleek exterior.
It had him in a thrawl.
It was all he could think about at night.
Even when he was playing the PS3 he was thinking of the other.
Soon the day came and the darkness disappeared.
Timmy then declared, "The day is here, the darkness is gone.  PS3 was swell but this is more fun."

I know the ending is weak if anyone can think of anything bette go for it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:too many good games
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:38:42 AM »
I have roughly around 20 GCN game but I lost one of my favorites, PSO.  Though there are many more I like to play but I'm finding that they aren't released in the states (Homebound), only had a limited quantity run (Cubivore), I didn't know they existed, or I just plain can't find.  I go to the store and what do I see?  Not the newish games I'm looking for but the same old junk I don't care about and a couple of the launch titles.  That what really killed the GCN.  I have this problem even at dedicated gameshops.  But on the flipside I can no longer Monster Rancher 4 either.  I think it must be a conspiracy to take the games I want to play off the market before I can buy them.

Ok, Everyone.  We can now read the Revolution Report Faq and comment on it here.  That doesn't change the topic of the thread.  It just means we know more now.  :-)  I also think that any non-new download game should not cross the price boundary into the price for a an actual copy.  So yeah.  Since $19.99 is the lowest MSRP for a Gamecube game than any past system games should not equal or exceed that amount.  It just makes sense that way.  I do have to say though.  Animecyberrat is correct when he says that they have to recoup there lost on the network side of things.   MS uses Live to do this and they had a pretty good infrastructure to begin with.  Nintendo had no current infrastructure for what they want to do.  So the startup cost is going to be large to say the least.  They could do a peer-peer bittorrent type thing but I don't see that.  Even then the startup cost would be more.  I mean just ask Sega about the cost to support a network.

TalkBack / RE:Nintendo Comments on DS Redesign Rumors

Button redesign, the rounding of those sharpish edges, well actually just more ergonomic in general.  Also change out the speakers so that the only setting is no longer loud.  I have a first run DS so they might have fixed it but if you try to set the sound so that your the only one that can hear it the speakers gets scratchy.  Automatic sleeping when you close the shell on GBA games.  Just like the DS games.  Yeah that would be nice.  Online Picto chat be fun.

If it's the same wi-fi support as the DS.  You might really want to consider getting a new wireless router anyways.  It could only lead to problems for you later because Nintendo isn't doing anything weird.  Nintendo tried that approach with the Gamecube.  "If you want to do progressive scan you can."  "If you want to go online will give you all the tools it's up to you to provide the back-end."  With the GCN Nintendo did give people options and they never took advantage of them.  When I bought my network adapter they were sold in stores.  Nintendo was planning on third parties wanting to use the functionality.  They themselves had no current plans for it at the time.  Ironically enough some of the back-end hardware things that Nintendo does to optimize there systems require specific resolutions.  I was reading a book about game developement and it mentioned how the GCN required you to have a fixed resolution of something by something.  If memory serves though it was higher then what a standard tv could put out.  The only reason you do something like that is A) There is something internal optimized for this resolution B) To simplify the API.  There is always a reason.  I'm sure that is partially why Sony and MS require HD.  A good example of this is ther is a way to do matrix multiplications in Computer Science that you take a matrix that is smaller then 70x70 I beleive grow to that size.  You can then use addition instead of multiplication for most of the steps and you actually finish up quicker than if you did a straight multiplication of the two small matrices.  When you can assume certian things there are some nice formulas for dealling with them for optimization or compression.  Which on that note I hope they have Hardware Compression/decompression.
