Well a 250k unit difference between Wii & PS3 sales in the month of Sept. is probably something Nintendo cared about.

The PS3 got a boost from its price cut, and that boost has been quickly fading. Wii sales have been stagnant in Japan for a few months, so I don't think its price cut had anything to do with the PS3. I don't think Nintendo is worried or cares. October will be won by the Wii and things will be back to normal.

Chozo, why does Nintendo need third party support? They had next to little support for the N64 and GameCube and made tons or profit. They have also managed to sell over 52 million Wii's with not much serious third party support. The Wii easily outsells its competition in both hardware and software, so Nintendo has shown they do not need third parties. If anything, the third parties need the Wii (many third parties like Ubisoft have admitted that the profits they made from their Wii games funded development for their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games).

Traditional gamers are sore and they don't know how to handle their frustrations properly, with their emotions being expressed thru logical trainwrecks.  I love it.

Well a 250k unit difference between Wii & PS3 sales in the month of Sept. is probably something Nintendo cared about.

No doubt, but overall it didn't have much impact because it was so short lived. Now if PS3 was still selling a bunch more then Wii they may be worried but as it stands the bottom has fell out again on PS3 sales.

I agree completely, but I imagine there was a moment where someone told him how much the PS3 sales picked up due to a price drop & Iwata hiccuped in his Dom Perignon or Cristal spilling a little on his shirt.

This was after he read Sony saying that the world would be a better place if they won.

and Nintendo realizing that the 250k bump Sony received almost tied the Wii & PS3 in YTD, and they know Sony will spin even the smallest of victories into something bigger than it really is. But really, who can blame them? if all you got is bread and butter, you make the best damn toast you can.

Let's just say that there are some game types that the Wii doesn't have very well represented.  Certainly I can't think of any vast sandbox games like GTA, Prototype or Saint's Row.  (Well, okay, Spider Man 3 and Web of Shadows.. so one good sandbox game at least.)  And in the genre of 3rd person shooters the Wii lags as well.  Gears of War, Resident Evil 5, and umpteen GoW knockoffs vs... the Wii port of RE4.  And There's not really much for the Wii in the way of multi-player co-op along the lines of Halo or Left 4 Dead.

I believe the Wii is fully capable of handling these genres if they're coded in a Wii-friendly manner.. they just haven't made it to the Wii yet for some reason.

Does that mean the the Wii "loses" to the HD consoles?  Don't be ridiculous.  In my mind it just means there's some BIG opportunities for third party developers who spend the resources to fill those gaps.  In the mean time if you want GoW play it on your 360.  I'll be over here playing Animal Crossing.

Godfather and Scarface are both on Wii. On the flip side the 360/PS3 don't have all that many platformers, or survival horror games either. Each system has their strengths and weaknesses (though the PS3 and 360 share similar types of games between them).

Godfather and Scarface are both on Wii.

Good point.  I LOVED Godfather on the Wii - great use of motion controls.  I've always meant to go back and play more Scarface.. never really gave it a chance.  And I completely forgot Bully as well.

I'm still steamed that Godfather 2 didn't reach the Wii too.  And I'm resisting the temptation to make a bad joke about EA bringing it to us as a On-Rails Lightgun shooter.

Nintendo's problem is, and has always been, the lack of quality 3rd party games. Nintendo can lower the price of the Wii, but it won't help all that much because they are already the cheapest. They absolutely need the 3rd party support...

GTA, Street Fighter, RE5, etc. These games are absent from the Wii library, and until that changes Nintendo won't be able to win.

Win what, exactly?

If those titles were present on Wii earlier, what would they do?  Sell the systems that were already missing from store shelves at sold-out stores?  Really?  This is losing?

I know what you are saying. Nintendo is in 1st place and selling hardware and 1st party games, but that's all that can be said. Its like a paradox, because they are number one, but from the lack of quality support it doesn't feel like they're number one. So they are winning in a sense, but its a hollow sort of victory.

I want to play those games on Nintendo hardware.
is your sanity...

Japan already has a special edition of White Knight Chronicles and we have yet to see the first version of it?  Glad to see things are staying the same.

It's not really a special edition. It's just the regular game plus the updates that came out after the game. It does include a PSN code for some exclusive download items. My guess is that the NA version will come with the updates already on the disc too.

Well I didn't expect the numbers to increase that much for the WII just for a $50 price drop.  The software is lacking and most loyal fans already bought the WII.   The numbers will increase as X-mas approaches but that's always nintendo strong suit since it's favorable with the parents.

"survival horror games either"  ?  Actually the Xbox/PS3 have more than the WII.    Silent Hill actually had released one this generation, Homecomings I think, but nobody bought the damn thing.  Same with Alone in the Dark and the now released Saw.  Don't think the WII has to many yet unless you count the upcoming games like Grudge and Silent hill.  The only title I can think of is Curse Mountain but I haven't played that one yet.    If you meant rail-shooters like House of the Dead, than yeah there's not alot of them on these systems.

As for platformers, yeah the PS3 and Xbox 360 don't have any that excell well the PS3 has R&C series but it losted Sly Cooper and Jak  games which is disappointing.  But there's alot of indie games that are platformers like Braid or whatever it was called.

Braid is more of a puzzle game. In regards to survival horror here is what I can think of for Wii:

-Obscure 2
-RE4: Wii Edition
-Cursed Mountain
-Alone in the Dark
-Lit? (Not sure if this counts)
-Ju-On
-Fatal Frame IV
-Man Hunt 2
-Escape from Bug Island (OK a terrible game but it is survival horror)
-Fragile? (seems to share many things with survival horror)
-Dead Space Extraction? (again not sure if this counts but supposedly it is quite creepy)

RE: UC
RE: DSC

Do those games not count since they are on-rails/lightgun? You did kinda include DSE, so if that maybe counts, then those games should maybe count too.

Well HOTD isn't really a horror game it isn't trying to scare you or creep you out. RE: UC could count though and RE: DSC. HOTD probably shares more with Dead Rising in regards to it being more of a satire of horror games.

yet still a horror game in which you must survive.

I think it fits the definition.

Er...

There's pretty much zero horror in it.  The overwhelming emotions in that game are melancholy and nostalgia....
