It's N64ism, Chozo.  The N64 routinely had games in the Top Ten despite being behind a lot.  GC too.

And look at what those games are, too.  FF7 Spinoff and God of War, one of Sony's more popular franchises.  looking at those numbers... I dunno if I would be too happy that the very reason most people even have PSPs (at least that's what they said in 2004) only sold that much.

But this is different because this is the FIRST time any PSP game has hit the top ten in the US...

I think they deserve their spot in the sun given that fact.

That's why I don't trust VGChartz until a game has been out for a few months.

Why so? Have they changed their policy and now factor in NPD again, or are they still trying to be "mavericks" and clinging to the idea that their methods are more precise and no longer account of the difference between them and the new NPD findings?

Once they made that announcement awhile back I pretty much gave up on them.

I always see VGChartz sales trackers say they're actually less accurate than NPD, due to not having as large a data sampling.  But it's supposed to be in independent sales tracking site, and at the end of the day, NPD numbers are also an estimates (albeit, more accurate).  They do readjust their numbers post NPD though.  But I find their numbers to be pretty accurate for the most part, well with their margin for error.

Why is the PSP selling less than half as many hardware units this month as its competitor, but manages to get 2 games in the top 10 but yet the more popular DS doesn't? That doesn't make much sense.
Sadly DS piracy has gotten out of control

Well Nintendo has recently released Fiscal Year 2008 results.
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/index.html

According to the report the Wii has sold 24.45 million units to date.  Not to mention the Wii has 26 games that are million sellers and the Wii's LTD Software total is 148,440,000, which gives the Wii an attach rate of 6.07.

Oh yeah, and Smash Bros Brawl has sold 4.85 million copies worldwide.  In Japan the game has sold 1.61 million copies, while here in America it's already sold 3.24 million copies.  That's right, 3.24 million copies in just over 6 weeks here in America.

This means Brawl will sell over 5 million copies before it's even released in Europe this June.  Once it's released in Europe, chances are that Brawl will surpass Melee's lifetime total before the end of the year.  Hell, since Melee's lifetime total according to Nintendo is only around 7 million, Brawl should easily surpass that by September or even sooner.

Oh I should also add that Nintendo is predicting to sell around 25 million year for the next year, which means by this time next year the Wii could have a userbase of over 50 MILLION!!!

I imagine by that time third parties will finally start to take the system seriously because a system with a 50 million userbase is going to be impossible to ignore.  Or you'd think so anyway. :rolleyes:

That's bloody impressive.. especially for a console that's only been out a year and a half.. and ESPECIALLY for a console that's sold so many units and therefore has many new owners.

And I think we now know that Smash Bros will pass Halo 3 easily in Worldwide LTD sales.. I thought so all along.

Wow! How did I miss this?

Nintendoi's tie ratio of 6.07 worldwide is shipped, understandably. But NPD actually provided numbers for the specific sold American Wii software tie-ratio!

Quote
    *  Xbox 360: software sales ratio: 7.5
    * Wii: software sales ratio: 5.3
    * PS3: software sales ratio: 4.6

The Wii actually jumped up an entire two games since the last time these numbers came out just 6 months ago! That's great speed! ... of course... we DID just go through a very game-heavy Christmas... hmmm

How many games are bought per system on average on Wii? 6?  So since 3rd parties are about 50 percent of games sold that means that the number that actually matters is 50% of that 6, or 3. Not quite as pretty.

According to Vgchartz the Wii has 11.27 million sold in America and the 360 11.79 million in America. When do you think the Wii will overtake the 360 in America? About the Npd numbers.  I added up the Ps2,Ps3,Psp and 360 and they have a combined total of 692,200 where as the Wii by self is more than the competitors if you add the DS with the wii it is 1,129,000!!! I just thought that was humorous.:)

Isn't that a bit unfair considering GTAIV came out on the 29th of the month. We may see something completely different next month when the numbers tell the story of how GTAIV impacted console sales.

Not really, especially if you consider Halo 3 was in the same position yet still boosted system sales...And that was obviously only for 360...

Xbox 360   188.0K
PlayStation 3   187.1K

It doesn't look like the PS3 is ever going to close the gap with the 360 unless something drastic happens that manages to increase sales for it. The 360 is going to be getting its own BLu-ray player feature, so it's hard to see what sort of major advantage the PS3 is going to hold over the 360 at that point.

Nintendo DS   414.8K
PSP             192.7K

The handheld arena for Sony doesn't look much better either. Looks like they are going to be 2nd or 3rd place in marketshare for the remainder of this generation.

I have two questions related to this:

1. Anyone think EA is having second thoughts about purchasing Take Two for the previous sum they were offering?

2. Is Microsoft likely cringing from the 50 million designated for the exclusive GTA downloadable content?
