Nintendo Direct TONIGHT (27/28 September)
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:35:11 PM »
Rich at IGN (Nintendo section) has tweeted that there will be a Nintendo Direct tonight. Japan's is at 8pm PST with one from Nintendo of America to follow. It was tweeted around 8:25pm EST.

We're aren't even getting a days notice anymore.  :Q

Usually Nintendo never announces them more than 24 hours in advance, 2 1/2 hours is pretty short though.

This reeks of Nintendo of America being in panic mode over something, probably the sour reception their last Nintendo Direct had in the press.  Hopefully this means they've finally figured out what the Wii U has now so they're actually prepared to talk about details.

Either that, or something big just happened like Dragon Quest X getting announced for the NA Wii U launch window.

and Maybe they needed to announce the change from ME3 to Mass Effect Trilogy Threelogy for Wii U too

Unreal. They seem to just do them whenever they feel like it.

Hoping they touch upon the eshop and online infrastructure.

Knowing Nintendo of America's usual talent at presentations, that would be presented in 4 point font in a sea of logos at the end of a sizzle reel.

Other than not addressing online for Wii U, their last ND seems to have gotten fairly good reception. And I don't see any panic mode here, I would expect to see at least 2 more ND's befor Wii U launches.

I think people were mostly positive about what Nintendo talked about in the last Nintendo Direct, they were just upset about what they didn't talk about.

NOA/NCL Nintendo Direct is 3DS related. Smaller focus (probably a single game). NOA likely comes tomorrow but TBD. Take "shortly" liberally.

I'm hoping Paper Mario, with a White 3DS XL North America announcement.

If it is, I can't imagine what could be so damn important as to announce the thing only a few hours before the broadcast.  Thankfully, we only have to wait a few hours to find out.

Come on "Mario vs DK 3D"... With the series' regular level editor, of course.

I merged the two topics, and I'm unreasonably getting my hopes up for a 2012 release for Animal Crossing.

Didn't Nintendo already confirm that AC would be a 2013 release for North America? I would love it to come out sooner, but I don't see them moving it up either.

What could it be?

- A small project from Retro Studios?
- A true sequel to Metroid Fusion?
- The next "Mario vs DK" game?
- Release dates for the next Brain Age and Animal Crossing games?
- An update that allows the 3DS to suspend apps without closing them (like iOS)?

Paper Mario fits their M.O. Nintendo seems to like using small Nintendo Directs to focus on specific games coming out just a few weeks after.

I doubt there is any panic resulting in a last minute Nintendo direct. Not after all the preorder sell outs.

I like when these announcements just come out the blue, we don't spend so much time agonizing in anticipation letting our imaginations run wild.

If the pre-order allotment was low to begin with, selling them out means nothing.  As has been noted before, the 3DS and the Vita sold out their pre-orders as well, and look how that worked out for them.

Well the 3DS is doing fine, and the Vita is dying. I see your point, but you're comparing apples (home consoles) to oranges (handhelds).

That really doesn't matter, especially given that in Japan the handhelds are actually more popular than the consoles.

And so...the whole big Nintendo Direct thing turned out to be...New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC. Lame.  We even had the NFR crew standing by to record a reaction to it (to slide into our currently-editing NFR Ep. 5) if it turned out to be real news, but we gave up out of disinterest.
