Thats it: Nintendo is down and out as far as I'm concerned for this Christmas. They dropped the price yes, but all of their major games this holiday season have strongly dissapointed - with the exception of Viewtiful Joe.

The biggest dissapointment thus far is Mario Cart: Double Dash on which IGN had this to say:

6.0 Presentation
Very little production value. This is very much Mario Kart 64 recreated. It gets the job done, but doesn't dazzle.

7.0 Graphics
Four-player runs at 60 frames per second -- its sweetest asset. Otherwise, just a really colorful, unique and bright title -- very much what you'd expect for Mario Kart.

6.0 Sound
Decidedly average MIDI tunes that fit the level thems, but do little to intrigue. Sound effects are offered up in effective Dolby Pro Logic II.

8.0 Gameplay
Multiplayer is its greatest achievement. Two-player Grand Prix is very entertaining and four-player versus is still a blast. Battle mode, however, has underdelivered.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
A small, predictable trail of unlockable content, but LAN support and the solid multiplayer make this a worthy one.

IGN are actually highly overrated. I've stop caring for the site because all they are-are greedy bitches who just want everyone to get insider. Thank god there is a site like planet gamecube....

Seriously, the best judgement (if that's possible) I think a person can draw on a game based on review article(s) only comes after reading a variety of articles, where the reputations, likes/dislikes, and frames of reference of the writer/reviewer are mindfully considered. Finally, you play the game for yourself (or play the game BEFORE reading any reviews).

You don't just evaluate the evidence (the review), you must evaluate the source as well (the reviewer).

I don't think there are any un-biased game reviews. I think certain degrees of bias is necessary to properly review games solely for a particular platform/system. But how the bias is professionally employed is a totally different matter. And IGN certainly has not measured up as a totally reliable op/ed center on numerous occassions, given my 5-year-visitor history.

Well who do you trust. Gamespot? they are full of biasedness up the wazoo. I really like how the gamespot reviews and reader reviews differ by 2 points in most cases(for xbox)
Dont look at the site that gives the highest scores out, they are usually wrong.

The IGN review of MKDD also contradicts its recommendations (buy or not buy?) in the IGN 2003 Holiday Buyer's guide. How's that for logic?

Well, here's an idea. Go play the game and then ask yourself, "What could they have really changed?" Then consider whether it was a major change or not.

I trust my instincts, my preferences, and I tend to trust the various points that multiple reviewers agree on. But I don't stop there. For things they don't agree on, I question whether the reviewer is being reasonable, what he/she is really looking for (what the reviewer desired to see in the game), and question if the point made is something I should be concerned about (or not).

7.9 is disappointing...but usually anything over a 7.5 from IGN is rather good.

the thing is, it's a tried and established formula that works... so why fix it? IGN complained that it was too much of the same and not enough "innovation"... what the hell were they expecting? i guarentee if nintendo did decide to "innovate" IGN would be raising hell on how they destoyed an established game formula. complaining about the single player modes? jesus, mario kart has always been about the multiplayer...
the major problem is IGN has become mainstream and as a result are only concerned with the almighty dollar. everything has to be fresh and exciting and bigger to fit into the mainstream american ideal of better.

I just thought of something horrid. Didn't DOA:Xtreme V-ball get a 9.3? Thats just disgraceful. Thats it! MK sucks!

You just got my point, but you're wrong! Just checked it, DOAXXX got 9.2 overall and...... a full 10 (?!) for it's graphics. Call me biased against xbox, but this is insane. Plastic chicks.... at least p.n.03 should have done better, but I guess one is not (plastic) enough.

IGN Gave Raw 2 a score in the 9.0s... IGN is a Joke. Raw 2s development team was fired before the game was finished. Its extremly glitchy, and at times stops loading, and remains in a black screen and you have to reboot it, yet they gave it a 9.2 if im not mistaken. Gamespot gave it a score in the mid 5.0s... The Moral is Gamespot is a tad more fair with its reviews, ill wait till Gamespot does theirs.
