The new design is much improved. Could I maybe ask for minor addition? On the front page have you tried experimenting with a simple patterned background that isn't white? The white just sort of bleeds all of the components on the front page into a soup. It makes it look more cluttered. Something like PixlBit does or NintendoLife would be good.

But again thanks for the free upgrade.

Good idea.  I'll take a look once I'm done fixing backend stuff.

I'll save all suggestions until you are done implementing the ones you are currently working on.
No need in requesting something you are currently working especially if what you are working on turns out better than the suggested change.

But so far it looks good.

That could be a while ;-)  If they are small suggestions like DAaaMan64's they can be put in pretty easily.  And if you have a good idea related to our upcoming features, it's better to let us know now rather than later when we have to go back and change everything.  I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot of use out of some of them though ;-)

But I don't even know what else is about to become active.

I'm looking at "....and more." and I'm just curious as to what you have in mind.

Besides a "submit news" link in the forums the only thing I can think of right now would be a "Hot Forum Topics" section at the bottom of the page that list some ongoing discussion and forum events. (something that's not Talkback or Staff Blog since those already have prominent front page exposure)
Maybe 2 or 3 links that get rotated at an Admins leisure.

But I also really like DAaaMan's suggestion too.

no wall paper, thats like some 1998 cliché web design. The faster the page loads the better. I remember when IGN had a simple layout, i visited it more. Now IGN is screen cluttered ridiculously. I'll have more critiques when i switch computers later today. Looks good so far though.

Right now it looks cluttered because there is no frame. On anything. And a 5k tiled background isn't gonna mean squat. I just checked NintendoLife's background and its 0.18k, and their main banner is 8.5k. Thats nothing.

Small nitpicking I don't like having to scroll down to get to the news; the font for Worldwide Nintendo Coverage is small; it looks like there are 3 different boxes for the news [oh one is for E3] but I agree that it looks gooooood.

It was a design decision to dump the list format for the front page.  If you want news directly, go to the news page rather than the front page.  The top of the main page is meant for highlighted material, not latest news in particular, while the lists underneath are recent updates in the various sections.  Alternatively, you could use the RSS feed, which is of course still a list of updates.

Well this is a small thing but can you make a link to the front page from the forums?
I know we had this before but for some reason it has gone missing.

Just make the top logo do it. Most places do that.

Who's everybody? Tell them to send their complaints on the issue my way... I'll see to them personally.

Right now the top logo isn't even clickable, so they wouldn't even know the difference

Game ownership

Am I right in guessing that this is going to be just for Wii and DS?

By the way I like the redesign.

On the site you'll only be able to do Nintendo games, but I'm considering adding a synching feature with other collection sites.

I think the list of stories on the front page is too short, in any slightly busy time you'd have to check the archives to see everything that happened since your last visit. Making it hard to see what happened recently is the main reason I stopped reading GameSpy and IGN after their redesigns.

I though of something.

If you are logged into the site, you should be able to submit news without re-entering all your info.
Could there also be something similar to "PM's Sent" that keeps track of all the news a certain person has submitted?

If the site knows who I am when I visit it would be neat to have the ability to customize the layout (e.g. switch the features and the news boxes, only show Wii stuff, get rid of everything that wasn't posted by Greg Leahy, etc.).  Not sure if this is easy--or even possible--but it would be cool.

That's good, it was actually my first post after I saw the redesign.
I had just now remembered to post it in here
Glad it got included.

Along the lines with what I said earlier, if the main page knows who I am, it could be great if I could customize it to show X number of stories from each category.
