Honestly, since NPD is combining the same game on difference systems, I don't see why they don't combine different versions of the same game on 1 system; i.e. Pokemon HG/SS or Nintendogs.

Nintendogs would be at #6 on the list easily.
That's actually a very good point, that doesn't make sense.

So I've heard that Dead Space: Extraction sold 9,000 copies in its first week. Are we surprised? Do forumers represent 1% of its sales?

forumers represent 99%  of it's sales since they are the only ones that know it was out.

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich told Edge the root of the problem was with EA's lack of marketing.

"Electronic Arts didn't market Dead Space Extraction as much as it does with other titles. And the success or failure of a Wii title usually correlates directly to marketing spend. If Electronic Arts spent little on marketing, I am sure the sell through was no surprise to them. So I do not believe sell through was a disappointment to EA."

I'm surprised that Fallout 3: GotYE sold more on the PS3 than the 360. But I guess since the 360 had the DLC a lot longer is the reason why.

Nintendo didn't cut the Wii's price until September 27th, so any effect the price drop had in sales is pretty much non-existent in September's overall sales. If anything, it hurt sales earlier in the month.

Agreed. Many people knew the price cut was coming and held off until it came, so not only is Sony's sales better than normal because of their price cut, Nintendo's is also worse than normal... So really, October will be the test.

DQ9 break 4Million in only 16 weeks. A feat that took NSMB 34 weeks to accomplish.

How many copies has NSMB sold to date?  6 million in Japan?  Do we think DQ9 will even be able to sell another million copies?  How long did it take DQ8 to sell 4 million in Japan?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

This is a few weeks old, but I don't think DQ8 ever sold 4 million in Japan

DQ8 sold 3.6 million copies in Japan, 4.4 million worldwide (at least according to confirmed numbers).

As for NSMB, DQ is insanely popular in Japan. It also came out when the DS userbase was millions larger than when NSMB came out.

And DQ tends to get the early sales spike, NSMB is one of Nintendo's evergreens that sell forever and ever.

Seriously Nintendo should be worried in Japan. Yes they're up by several million, but Sony is winning every week, even with Wii's price drop.

NIntnedo is in deep touble and in serious danger of losing that 5 million system lead if Sony keeps out selling the Wii by 3-4k every week(for the next 20 years)

Quote
PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 53.6 / 46.4 bring total shares to 30.0 / 70.0. At this week's rates, PS3 would catch up to Wii in 1,212.6 weeks (January 21, 2033). If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 164.2 weeks (December 18, 2012).

Nintendo needs to be worried generally about the Wii's performance, but it's pretty much locked in stone that Nintendo's won Japan for this generation.  If only some of Japan's third parties would realize this instead of willfully ignoring it and talking about how much Japan's video game market is doomed because "in Japan only 4 million or so consoles sold this cycle."  Which is said with a straight face.

I understand that it would take over 25 years for Sony to catch up at this point, but the bottom line is week-on-week, Sony is beating Nintendo, and that makes Nintendo look really bad, or at least not nearly as good as they usually do, when compared to Sony. BTW, Sony won by 6k this week, and if that trend continues, they'll come pretty close to at least tieing Nintendo for this year's sales.

True, but the truth is that sales for both consoles kinda suck.
One just barely sucks less than the other.

Yes, but if Sony outsells the Wii by even 1 unit they can use that as a moral victory of sorts, and Nintendo shouldn't allow them to have that.

Plus, the PS3 has come quite a ways from when it first launched and was getting its ass kicked by the GBA. Now its catching up to and selling on par with the Wii. Sure, it would take them ages to catch up at this rate, but the problem is that rate seems to be increasing. Today the PS3 is outselling the Wii by only a couple K a week. But in a few months it might be 20k and then in a year it could be 200k. This is a serious danger, and price cuts aren't going to help. Nintendo needs games and parlor crap isn't going to cut it anymore. Why hasn't RE5 and Streetfighter appeared on the Wii? Where the hell is GTA and the new Godfather? These games absolutely should and must be on the Wii! The Wii is in 1st place at the moment, but judging from its game library you couldn't tell.

The Wii got this far mostly because of its innovative control capabilities, but the amazement of that is now starting to wear off, and what's even worse is now Microsoft and Sony have ripped off the idea and will soon have that on their own consoles. If you combine that with a PS3 only $100 more then this could mean disaster.

So again to summarize, maybe the Wii isn't being outsold by very much at the moment, but what's going to happen when Sony releases their ripoff motion controller? What then? I see disaster looming ahead for Nintendo unless something is done immediately to get 3rd party support.

Nintendo doesn't really care about the competition (especially their "moral victories" which only fanboys even hear about), the core market implosion will take care of those. What they care more about is their own suboptimal performance. They went too long without killer apps. NSMBWii should give them a boost but they need to keep it up, not waste it with another year of inactivity.
