Display case reveals unannounced features.

The display boxes for Super Mario 3D Land, put out on Japanese store shelves today, revealed the game to have StreetPass and Super Guide features.

StreetPass will allow the exchange of in-game items between players, while the Super Guide will help players with useful items such as the P-Wing.

Exactly what items will be transferred between systems is unknown as of now.The P-Wing items first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES, it allowed players to fly continuously across the level when used in conjunction with the Tanooki power up, effectively giving them an easy way to pass over the level.

Pre-orders have also officially started today in Japan, along with Kirby's Return to Dreamland on Wii.

Super Mario 3D Land releases on November 3rd in Japan and the 13th in North America.

That is a possibility, but not confirmed by the box information.
I've seen the 3D Land Tanooki suit flutter, maybe it's infinite flutter? i.e you can jump then flutter in a straight line continuously, as apposed to flying upwards at a 45 degree angle, which I don't think it part of the game's design from everything we've seen.

Ah yes, very true. Well, whatever the outcome, I'm just glad that there's plenty left to surprise us with this game. I think I recall if not Miyamoto, then one of the higher-ups talking about how there'd be no street pass, as its usefulness in such a game would be limited. Paraphrasing to the max, but I'm getting more and more disappointed every time Nintendo does one of these topsy-turvies. *Sigh* politics. >_>

Yeah, that's what makes this more "newsworthy" than usual. I think we even talked about it on the Famicast, like come on, can't you think of anything to do for StreetPass? I guess they finally did!

Just off the top of my head, thinking for approximately 35 seconds:
*Best times for speed runs on each level.
*Earn game coins to exchange for tips or items, earn more if you StreetPass someone.
*A screen-shot tool and you could exchange images.

How I envy you peoples in the Japans, what with your actual use for Streetpass. *Has a cry at his still-empty Mii Plaza.* My Puzzle Swap'll never be complete! Digress! Those are some good examples, mate. Can't say I even stopped to think about how it could be used other than the disappointing first thought of grabbing a spare fire flower from a passer by.

Hope you guys have time to share more thoughts on the next Famicast about this subject. Needs more questions about vending machines, though! :D

Good job, fellas. 'Preciate it!

Do we have a European release date yet? I assuming so and guessing its 2 days before the US. Can someone fill me in?

Let's hope there are more SMB3 powerups where that came from. Still hoping to see the Frog and Hammer Bro suits again...
