TalkBack / Re: Nintendo 3DS (Didn't) GET!!
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:01:44 AM »
The Q's a pretty sweet collector's item though.  :P:

Matt's article doesn't have talkback functionality, so I'll just ask it here. *Inhales deeply*
Are Street Fighter's backgrounds still completely static? It was quite disappointing to see nothing moving in the demo clips, and I can't seem to find clear confirmation on the Youtubes. Quite a good topic of discussion right thar, right? Lazy port, poor hadware, or lack of storage...you decide!

Thanks in advance.  :Q

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 233: Don't Try Too Hard

Hey... I don't have an I-pod or I-tunes... So is it possible to download this thing for a standard MP3? It's a creative zen. I went to the mp3 link.. but I don't see a place I can download the actual file.. Just curious, because I would love to take you guys on the go! I hope that doesn't sound like an implied kidnapping... of course you're all grown men! So it wouldn't actually be kidnapping right?.... I'm just gonna shut up now...

You can try right clicking on that MP3 link, then clicking on Save Target As, but that shouldn't be needed. I 'unno...you've probably already figured it out by now. The 'Download in MP3 Format' link is working fine for me, so keep at it!

Lookin' forward to the Radiant Historia talk. I've been meaning to 'test it out illegally', but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm currently ploughing through Black Sigil after giving up on Nostalgia. Both are extremely traditional RPGs, with the former lending its art style almost entirely from SNES classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. I'd say the game would be pretty damned epic if it weren't for the absolutely horrid, batshit insane amount of random encounters. TOO MANY!! But James already knows this! *Hugs*Digress!!! I'm doubting The Historias'll get a release down here in no-game's land (a.k.a Australia,) given the DS is on its last legs and RPGs are fairly niche I guess. Small markets. Not worth the annoyance of hyping myself up for something that might not come out here. There's always importing I guess... So yeah, piracy! Cool story, bro.

OH! I was totally going to import a US 3DS and be done with it, but a local pre-order deal was too good to pass up. The RRP for the 3DS down here is $350US/AU, right? Right! Some stores are offering deals, selling the console with a bonus crappy accessory pack for $300. I managed to snag a 3DS, along with my choice of either that Rabbids platformer, Rayman 2 3D, or that Advance Wars-style Ghost Recon game. All for only Tree hundred dorrar! That's pretty on-par with the US price right thar. I picked the Rabbids game by the way, as I played Rayman 2 on the N64 and thought it was medicore at best. Better than Tonic Trouble, but had nothing on the Nintendo or Rare platformers.

...Better than Earthworm Jim 3, too!

The walking mechanics of Alundra reminded me a lot of Wild Arms, a retro-ish RPG for the PS1. Overall though, I'd have to say Alunda gave off more of an Illusion of Time/Gaia or Soul Blazer feel. Zelda didn't once pop into my head whilst playing it as a young teenager, but watching a quick Youtewb clip of that awesome dungeon with the TALK TO THESE COLOURED GHOST TOMB THINGS IN ORDER puzzle that I remember being oh-so-fond of, I can see how people could make the connection. It still reminds me of Wild Arms though. :-3

I don't think I ever finished the game, as I never used to like wrapping my head around brain teasers in games growing up, instead opting to go the 'try every combination furiously until one of 'em pops' route, as usually it ended up quicker in the majority of RPGs. This one, however, made me wee a little bit. No doubt now that I'm a little more patient, I'd probably trundle through it and actually think about it all, but it probably won't be much fun for me. I'm more into the mindless grinding with purdy numbers showing how strong I am in RPGs over the story and puzzles. No tactical RPGs for me thanks, Jamezo! ...Actually, I just find they're usually too punishing, but I digress!

Oh! I remember spending qute a bit of time trying to gain enough money to buy those elite items (with an elite pricetag) in a shop only to find out that the maximum amount of money you can carry puts you just one coin short of being able to buy the items. THE SHOP WAS A LIE!

tl;dr? Terranigma for the SNES is way better than Illusion of Time. Nyeh!

More plastic crap from Activision? A standard Spyro game would've sufficed.

oohhhboy said it best. News article over. They have absolutely no one else to blame but themselves. People are losing their jobs over this... So there's another poinsoned slice in the already-decaying flesh that is Activision's public image. EA was never this bad, were they? In both the seeming abuse of IPs and poor public image?

Regardless of annoying little shits on Xbox 'n CoD PC, this game looks absolute breasts! Reminds me of Time Splitters, or the obvious Unreal Tournament. A bit slower than the latter, but still looks like a tonne of more fun than Goldeneye gave me. I'll curse that game forever...shitty-arse controls no matter what option was selected. >_>

Forgot to mention that it's never been an issue of money for me, but the absolutely pointless delays.
*EDIT*
OH! There's the edit button! :D The Return of Friend Codes story in 3...2...1 Sauce. No mention on whether or not they're universal or not. Funny how we're always hoping Nintendo learns from their previous mistakes before the launch of their new systems only to be disappointed. They obviously know everyone hates 'em. Frankly, if they're unable to do-away with something so trivial as these codes, I don't see any hope for an improved online infrastructure in the near future.

Remember Mario Kart DS? "WOW! It's Mario Kart online!! ...I might as well be playing against NPCs. <_<" Yep, we get another whole generation of that bullshit.

*Checks conversion rates* Oh wow! $1.00AU = $1.00US. New PS3 games usually come out at $120, so go figure. I bought my DSi XL for $300. My dad bought Super Castlevania 4 for $160, but granted, the dollar was worth ~30% less back then.  Regardless, games leveled out at $100 here much like it did at $50 in the US. Consoles here don't usually get slapped with the 100% increase that the games do anymore, which I find strange. Fair enough, we have a smaller market and our ratings board charges quite a bit to get the little stickers slapped on the games (which really needs to change, as our DSi Ware shop is pathetic due to this reason), but the fact remains that our dollar has doubled in worth over the past five years, yet software prices haven't changed in the slightest to reflect that fact, thus importing is incredibly awrsum.

I guess all it means is that companies who produce piracy carts will have to release multiple versions for different regions. After that, any ROM should be usable through bypass from the cart itself.

I'm not sure if I'll just import a US 3DS. I've only imported a few DS games in my time, so it'd definitely be a big step. If I decide against it, I'm willing to bet the first major release to have a 6 month delay here will push me over the edge and down the road of pirates. Yarrgh!

I was a sucker for the upgradable aspects of RE4--Collectable moneys and what-not. Any idea if we'll see a return of cash-shop-moneys?

I don't know why I'm in the minority whenever I express my utter disappointment with Goldeneye. Maybe Game Mode on my TV reduces image quality considerably, thus the visuals don't wow me as they do in the screenshots 'n stuff, but that aspect wasn't even the biggest let down for me.

THE CONTROLS, MAN! They felt incredibly chunky...lacking a certain smoothness. After giving up on using the 'mote 'n 'chuck option, I was incredibly surprised that the same problems still persisted when using the Gamecube controller. Red Steel 2, The Conduit and Metroid Prime 3 never gave me this problem. *Has a cry about it* The defaultly set automatically adjusting height option for when going up stairs and the auto target ADS (Aim down sight) setting were all incredibly inconsistent and a massive annoyance.

END.

I was eyeing off that plushie, UncleBob, but couldn't skype in due to a mixture of shyness and a bad case of brother sleeping in my room. That and I got all of the Radio Trivia questions wrong...WRONG! Big thanks for the recording, guys.

Donation complete! SUCCESS!!1

Yar, I'm sure the majority of people donating realise that regardless of previous commitments, they'd probably miss out on the majority of the awesomeness, thus would like that security and comfort of...etc.. You get my point. Not only that, but Greg's voice puts me to sleep. SO SOOTHING, ZOMG!

*Aus listener #19 looks at time zones*

Having trouble donating *has a cry about it.* Seeing as I live in Australia, I'm thinking that maybe something gets buggered up when inserting my credit card details. Yes, yes, 'good cause' and all of that, but I doubt I'd be around to listen to this beast live, so I'm hoping to download it later. Phone number mayhaps not being a U.S. one? I 'unno... I'll try again soon.  :'( $10US Comin' your way soon, guise. *hugs* Zomg, exchange rates mean that's totally $10AU now!! And we still get charged $120 for teh new x-bocks games... I remember when my dad bought Super Castlevania 4 for $140 back in the day. Oh, and Street Fighter 2 was like $180 or somethin'... I DIGRESS, RITE?!

Also, CRAAAAIGWAY! Lots of love to the Craigmeister. He totally read out my question on their IGN Haiti charity thing. "Where are you guise recording from? IT DUN' LOOK LIKE TEH PODCAST ROOM!!1." And even though it's a long-shot that anything I write here will get mentioned on the 'cast, I'll give it a shot. Tell Craigzy that Snake Rattle 'n Roll on the NES is totally tits-awesome. Grew up on it 'n memories 'n stuff. Cheers.  :Q
