1.1 Million Wiis Sold in Japan
« on: January 09, 2007, 04:31:49 AM »
It only took about a month for Nintendo to ship out that many.

Since its Japanese launch on December 2, Nintendo has sold 1,135,671 Wii consoles in the country.  This figure was calculated by Famitsu on Sunday the 7th, so that means Nintendo went through that many systems in only 36 days.

Nintendo's worldwide sales target for the Wii was 4 million by the end of December.  Worldwide figures aren't yet known, but we do the launch period figures in other regions: 600,000 in North America's first week and 325,000 in Europe's first two days.  Obviously, the Wii has been selling non-stop since then, but there are now over 2 million consoles accounted for.  Will Nintendo meet their sales target?

Nintendo got lucky this time around.  They'll lose their artifical lead in February, just you wait.

Drought of games or systems?

Games is bad, systems is good depending on its cause. The current drought of systems is good for Nintendo, because they keep releasing systems, and people keep buying them, however if the drought was caused by them not releasing systems (which wouldn't make any sense) then it would be bad.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

But what difference is there between those two possibilities?  Whether or not Nintendo is responsible for the drought (by holding back systems) or not, they're still losing out on a potentially huge market.

While these are great numbers, I will wait for Media Create (whos numbers are usually a little more accurate than Famitsu).

Well there was that rumor from the US vg Tracking service. (Forgot their name currently, I think it NPD, but I need sleep so..) that the Wii sold about 1.8 million last year which would be about what they were suppose to. (It would put them at 2 million shipped in the US if you figure in the replacment consoles).

So
1.1 (Japan)
1.2~1.8 (An analyst put it at about 1.2 US, and the NPD rumor at around 1.8 so)
0.3 (Europe, two day total)
===
2.6~3.2 million

So barring any great changes in the rumor and the Famitsu numbers versus the Media Create number there is about .8-to-1.4 million unaccounted for (Basically Europe's and Australia's numbers). And if they miss it within .5 that is about what hit they took with defective consoles since replacements to my knowlege are not counted in shipped/sold counting.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

I figured you'd be happier to see the people who singled you and me out and ridiculed us for preordering coughing up black feathers.

Well I admit that was quite refreshing, though I will also admit that I never expected the Wii to take off like it has. I expected there was a good chance it would sell out on launch day quickly, but also thought they wouldn't be too bad to locate in a few weeks after launch. Boy was I wrong about that! Sure I thought Wii had tons of potential and expected good things (unlike GC), but nothing like this.

I could have gotten one a week after launch without preordering. My dad did preorder one though (from the second shipment, not the first) so I didn't buy one of the Wiis I saw lying around in a store.

It's funny because my friends and I kinda predicted it.

We actually imagined that the Wii would have this massive second wind we're seeing now because the first round of Wiis got into homes, convinced other people to buy them, then more followed suit.

The viral chain at work.
