You must keep in mind that the WiFi the DS is using is fairly slow.  Its not as quick as 802.11g or even a wired connection.  It would be pretty taxing on the system to transfer the game data, which running pretty fast in mario kart, and allowing voice chat at the same time.  Although, voice chat in the waiting room while people are joining your party could be done.

But, as people have said, WFC in MKDS was a last minute decision.  They could have added all these features, but they would not have had the game for Xmas.  Thats important considering GTA on PSP just came out...

I just waiting for the most obious idea...

Its kind of an extention of the music game genre.  You insert the controller deep into your butt, and you dance around, and the game detects your movement...

Dance Dance Revolution: Rectum-Remix, or something along those lines...

Looks like I won't be getting online with my current setup.  Anyone know of a good wireless router for a decent price?  Preferably something that's compatable with my D-Link Air DWL-520 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev.D)

Well, I usually like Linksys and Netgear's stuff.  I dont have my WiFi set up now, but I have an old Netgear MR814v1 stuffed away somewhere.  The MR814v3 got only one star, and other netgear stuff dident do so well.  I say look for D-Link and LInksys routers, they faired will on Nitnendo's tests.

Linksys WRT54g  802.11g  $48.99 and Nintendo gave it 5/5
D-Link DI-524 802.11g  $29.99 new, $21.99 used.  Nintendo gave it 5/5

Keep shopping around.  YOu have some time.  Keep in mind that the Nintendo WFC USB Adapter will ONLY connect DS and Revolution.  You will not be able to connect laptops and PDAs and stuff.  Spend that extra $5 and give your self that option...

Well, Nintendo's cirteria for being compatable are very strict.  A router only get 100% if it can be connected right out of the box with no setup.  So, every time an option in the router has to be changed, it gets marked down.  A router's susseptibility to interference is accouted for too.  Your router will work just fine, Nintendo is just telling you that you may need to change a few options.  What else can you do?  Your on a Mac?  Well the Apple Airport is 100% compatable.

I don't think Nintendo should go the multipule packages units, like MS.  One package with all you need.  Console, Remote, Nunchuku, Standard Shell (all matching color), WiFi USB Connector, a disk with tutorial on how to setup and use Nintendo WFC and DS connection and a controller use tutuorial with a few games demos and trailers, some downloadable for DS and atleast one of which with online play to try out WFC, and finally, 5 free game downloads.  All that for $249.99.  They would stilll be cheeper then either  360 packages, and the PS3, while still giving a load of stuff with everything you need to play, right out of the box.  I imagine Nintendo would still profit, or break even from such a package.

Nintendo should throw in a copy of Twilight Princess.  That would make sales explode, especially from people whom don't currently have a gamecube and are interested in the game.  Of course, they shouldent say anything untill something like the week before release, as not to deter from pre Rev sales of Zelda.  But thats never going to happen.

The first PC PPU, Phys-X, will be hitting store shelfs by the end of the year and, if I recall, will be around $250.  So, I think cost may keep this from being included on the Rev.  In the end it would probably be cheaper for them the just up the speed a little on whatever CPU they have then to include a PPU.

I don't see why they woulden't still sell replacements.  Though they have stopped now, it wasent but a year or two ago that NES and SNES controllers were still available on their online store, and New N64 controllers are still available there.  Seeing as the NES was 1985, and the Rev is slate for 2006, its stands to reason that replacement batteries would be available well ino 2020.

But, in all reality, I see a mixture of the two.  Perhaps a bay for standard AA batterys, where you can also place an optional Nintendo brand rechargabe battery pack.  Not to dissimilar to the deal with the Xbox360.

YES!  Imagine that a virtual arm and hand would mimic your real moves exactly.  Imagine lifting your arm so the gun is pointing upward ni the game, and then sticking out your left index finger and tapping X and then watching the clip fall from the gun.  Simple things like that would make this game extrememly immersive.  I can see  whole lot of genres being moved to a first person view.  People rant about how awsome it would be to swing your sword with Link in a Zelda game.  But really, it could be akward watching the action in 3rd person.  A 1st person zelda game, or one the switches from 3rd to 1st when swordplay begins, would make much more sence.  Same thing goes for a fising game, or tennis.  Many genres would benifit from going 1st person.  In the end, we would be one step closer to virtual reality.  Perhaps after this controll is standard and advanced further, like current controllers, in 20 years we'll be ready for the next revolution, and conincidently, LCD VR headsets will be very cheap...

Or I am just being way too cynical here?

Well, IGN hasent suspiciously gone back and changed their review of crappy FOX games and they havent been rainting and raving over DVDs that diden't deserve it.  Just because FOX OWNS IGN that dosent mean they give their products special treatment.  I see the Nintendo thing no diffrent.

I'm not deathly inlove with the Xbox just because I use Windows...

Nintendo Gaming / With all this controller talk...
« on: September 18, 2005, 10:43:45 AM »
Well, I have a few things I want to mention, and really diden't think I should make a seprate thread for each.

Some time ago I came across this website.  By chance I saw it again last night.  It shows sort of a family/evolution tree of console controllers.  I find it interesting, and I figured some of you might want to check it out, what with all the talk of controllers.

Second, I would like you all, if you can, to check out the demo of Indigo Prophecy.  To me, it seems alot like to old school Adventure games, taken to the next level.  The reason I am reffering you all to this is because alot of the gameplay is based on mouse gestures.  The whoe time I was playing, I was just imagining playing this, or a similar game on the Revolution.  Actually, from what was shown, controll wise, in the demo, I could see the whole game being controlled with only the main controller.  Move the character with the D-pad, B could work like the mouse click does in the demo, and A could be some other action button,  X and Y could even be used for some less often used action.  Actually, this game is suposed to be on the 360 some time next year, so there is a chance for a Rev port...

Lastly is just an observation of mine, and I'm sure some of you may have even had the same though.  I am starting to see Nintendo as becoming the Apple of the videogame world.  Apple has their portable device, the iPod which is synonamous with Mp3 players, and Nintendo has their's, the GameBoy.  Apple and Nintendo both have a die hard following.  Both companys tend to strive for things new and inovative in their realms.  Even the look of the Revolution is reminicent of an Apple product.

Well, thats enough of my yapping.  What do you all think?

I love DKonga, Frequency/Amplitude and Rez, pretty much all the non-DDR music games.  For this reason I have been uber excited for Band Bros, and extremely hopefull for a US translation.  But, had this title been all but confirmed as Japan only?  I'm trying to decide if I should hold out a bit longer, or if its arrival is so unlikley that I should just import.

BTW, one of the biggest reasons I wanted this game, was becase of the multiplayer mode.  Does anyone know if the game has single card multi-play?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendollars
« on: August 22, 2005, 01:03:11 AM »
unless your a commie

But yes, as stated a bit before, if you guys think being able to buy games and accessories online is no good, we could always have limited edition items, or stuff like that.  You know that Nintendo club they have in Japan, where you get special things for registering games (like your My Nintendo account, but better).  You could buy things like a special edition colored controller, lanyard for your DS, and stuff.  How about those things that are available through those January Nintendo Power catalouges?  Character figuers and bobbleheads, watch, wallet, t-shirts.  Remember I dont know about buying wallpapers for your Rev, as I am sure you could probably do that by loading a pic on an SD card and importing it.

Although, I dont see how Nintendo selling actual accesories and games online could be a problem in my modle.  I imagine that those bonus points you would get for registering your games would be about N$50.  Register two GCN games, or one GCN and one Rev, and you have enought to buy an NES game.  To have enough money to buy a new Rev game, you'd have to register 100 pices of software.  So, go buy a total of 100 games and register them all and get a free game from Nintendo, or put $50 into a Rev kiosk for N$5000 and buy the game.  See, Nintendo wouldent be giving things for imaginary money.  That imaginary money, for the most part, is bought with real money at stores, kiosks or Nintendo.com, all of which goes to Nintendo.   In the end, Nintendo actually makes enough cash to cover the cost of Nintendo WiFi Connect, and keep it free, and turn a modest profit.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendollars
« on: August 21, 2005, 12:03:11 AM »
*Looks over at library*

Hrmmm, 53 GCN games.  Thats a crap load of Nintendollars.

So, in keeping with Nintendo's latest catch, lets Expand the Definition of Nintendollars.

Lets say, as you do, that one Nintendollar (N$) is equal to one United States Cent.

First off, we need some protection.  Your N$ will have to be tied to your password protected Nintendo WiFi Connection account, otherwise anybody who has physical access to your console could just buy watever and waste your money.  Since everything is stored by Nintendo, on there network, we wont be seeing a Rev modchip that gives infinate money.

How are we going to stop people from passing on their Rev and GCN games to friends, allowing them to get free N$s?  Every disk has a unique serial number.  When you get your bonus from a game, the serial number is logged by Ninintendo, and when sombody trys to use the same disk to get free money, you'll get an error saying "This copy of game XXXX is already registered".  Problem solved.

How do we get N$?  Well, when you register your accout with the NWC network, it will detect you are using a new Rev.  This can work in the same way with software, the hardware's serial number being redeemable only once.  For first timers, you get N$1000.  Thats enough for 10, 5 or 2 games from NES, SNES or N64.  When you first register in the network, Nintendo will send you a welcome package in the mail.  In the package may be the latest demo disk, or a firmware update, one of those Nintendo Power offers, a catalouge of whats available in the Nintendo Market, and maybe a free Nintendo calender with the schedule of some online tournaments or important dates.  Most importantly will be your Member Card.  On here will be a cool logo and background you picked when you registered, your name, state and usernumber, with a creditcard-like strip on the back.  The new Revolution Demo Kiosks will have a card reader, and a bill slot (think soda machine).  Go to GameStop, swipe your member card, then swipe your credit card, select how much N$ you want, and your set, or do the same with paper money.

To make things really worth it, Nintendo should offer more than the classic games for N$.  Have a section to buy accessories and stuff.  Since there is a direct correlation in N$ to Cents, it shouldent be hard.  Need a new controller?  Ok, it would have costed you $35 in the store, buy it online for N$3,499. How about a Nintendo DS for $12,999?  Preorder, and buy Zelda Revolution, all online for N$5,999.  Nintendo is selling Online at the MRSP, which meane they are not only making their usual profit margin, but also that which would have been the retailer's!  They make more money than before, and employing UPS is industrial bulk would allow them to ship to your house for free, AND, no sales tax, as it is a virtual transaction.

How will Nintendo stop sombody from buying a classic game and copying it to a friend?  Nintendo will keep a full record of what classic games you have purchased.   If you accidentally delete it, you can download it again, no worries, everything would be tied to your nintendo account.  See, lets say you download Super Mario RPG for the SNES on Monday at 1200hr.  The ROM has a life time of one week.  So, at noon the following monday the game will expire and you cannot play it, untill you log into your Nintendo accout again and its expriation clock is automatically reset.  Once again, lets say the same senario, but this time you hop online at 1900hr on Wednesday and play a quick game of Star Fox Rev with a buddy.  All your ROMs stored in the internal flash, and once on your SD card will have their expiration clock rest to 1900hr the next Wednesday.  This way, in the normal activity of playing, your ROMs will contantly have their clocks reset and you'll be fine to play whatever, whenever.  In the ideal case, your Rev will have a constant connection, and the ROMs will never expire.  Lets say you bought Chrono Trigger, and your bud's never played it.  Copy it to your SD card, load it on his machine and hes free to play it untill the expiration clock reached 0.  When that happnes, next time he trys to play the game, he'll be told that the ROM has expired, and it belongs to Member Number *you* and to please log on.  When he loggs on his account he'll be allerted "The game 'Chrono Trigger (SNES)' has expired, and is not owned by this Nintendo WiFi Connect account.  Would you like to purchase the game yourself for N$200?  If not, the game will be automatically deleted."  All this clock resetting happens seamlessly behing the seens and the user is never bothered with it, or even aware its going on.

"clocking 200 hours in SSB3, beating Very Hard mode without losing a life" for N$ rewards would not work, as people could clock 200hr, delete their save, and to it again.  So these types of things should not be allowed.  How else can you make N$?  Pay N$100 to enter the monthy Smash Brothers 3 tournament and the winner recives N$25,000.  Allow betting on games, but only to a point.  Place a limit of $1,000 on the per-game bet.  Little jimmy looaing that much is onl $10 out of mommy's pocket, which is no big deal at all.  It would be quite cool to come home from work, check your account, and see SSB3, Mario Kart Rev, and Donkey Konga 4, challanges with a little field on the invite that says "Stakes: N$1,000".

On less of a Nintendollars note, and more toward WiFi Connect:

One of the biggest things I am hoping for is the equal access of the same network by both the DS and the Rev.    You'll use the same member number, profile and buddy list no matter if you are playing DS or Revolution.  Imagine taking your lunch break at work/school and going online and playing some Mario Kart DS with randomly matched people.  You get home, hop on the Rev and check you list a list of recently played members.  And you see that some of the people you played have a Revolution as well, and you invite them to play some Rev games with you.  Or, you could even send an invite for "Same time same place tomorrow" from your Rev, to one of the people who only has a DS.  Check the latest editions to the N$ cataloge at Nintendo.com, or your current N$ balance.  Or even stream purchased classic games to your DS!

Keep in mind, Nintendo WiFi Connection is the service used for the Revolution as well.  If we take the statements and assume they are also applicable to the Rev, then we have gotten our answer as to how all this will work.  One of the biggest questions was wether the service would be more akin to the Xbox Live, or something sparce like PS2's situation.  It appears we're looking at something along the lines of a Live type service...

Well, this is a long thread, and I think I'll arbitrarily jump in, not having read pages 2-6....

 -  Mailbag submittion: When will more revolution news be announced?
Matt responds: Shortly after the Leipzig Games Convention. I don't have an exact time frame -- it could be a day or a week, but I don't expect it will be much longer.

 - Mailbag submittion: In your last mailbox you mentioned that there would be more information about the revolution shortly after Leipzig. How educated of a guess is this?
Matt responds: I wouldn't call it a guess.

 - "Nintendo is revealing more and more about the Revolution, and there should be some interesting announcements very soon."

Also, keep in mind that next wednesday is the 5 year annivesary of the GameCube unveiling.  I'm thinking, perhaps, we'll get our info then...
