I thought I could get one this morning, but every time I hit "pre-order" on amazon, it took me to the shopping cart page, which kept telling me "Your Shopping Cart is Empty."  Hmmph.   Much like my soul.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Amazing Deals!
« on: November 25, 2014, 08:35:41 PM »
They need to do 30% off some real games.

Man, did you just start buying Nintendo games recently or something?   This is Nintendo we're talking about!   If you want games that are 60% off within 3 months of release, go buy some 360 games or something.  :-)

Iwata's gotta pay for that surgery somehow.  And if Miyamoto were here, he'd tell you that all those trips to France cost a lot of moolah.

TalkBack / Re: Etrian Odyssey V Announced

Annualizing Etrian Odyssey, as they seem to be doing, seems like a weird decision, but I thought the same thing about Assassin's Creed.

Makes sense, considering it's a super long game (50+ for main quest, add another 20 to 30 for post game), it presents itself as a value to consumers, but at the same time, it's gotta be super cheap and easy for them to crank these out.   I haven't played the Japanese ones, but in the Western releases there's no voice acting, no cutscenes, and the graphics are not super fancy.

Which is not to say these games aren't awesome.  They are.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo eShop Deals Starting Thursday

Considering that we are now in the last 5 weeks of DDP (Digital Deluxe Promotion, NOT Diamond Dallas Page, thank you very much), this is very welcome.  Especially in conjunction with the 15% off Eshop Cards that Best Buy is having on Black Friday.

When you break it down:

Eshop sale 30% off,

PLUS

10% DDP

PLUS

15% Best Buy Eshop Cards

Now you're buying with power!

WTF?

Okay, just how much save space do these things have?   I mean, are they recycling old Gamecube memory cards or something?

Okay...about Super Mario Advance...why?   This is just Mario 2 aka Mario USA.   Maybe I don't remember right...were there extra levels or some e-reader bs?

Now all we need is for Nintendo to play that awesome Eshop music in your browser.   I'm sure SOMEONE at Nintendo had a Geocities page in 1998.   Or at least a Lycos site.  Ooh, and they can add little star trails to my cursor.  Ooh Ooh and FRAMES!

RE:  The Mission

Holy crap!   I don't know what's worse, that 2 out of 3 of you haven't seen the Mission or that Robert De Niro was referred to as "they guy from Meet The Parents."  Goodfellas?  The Godfather Part 2?   Casino?   Raging Bull?   Taxi Driver?  If he was dead, Robert De Niro would be turning in his grave.

Zach can't be that much younger than me, can he?

And please, for the love of all that is sacred, see The Mission.  Everyone see it.  It is amazing, stirring, beautiful.   The music is by Ennio Moricone, and yes it is amazing.  When I was in college, everyone had the CD (that's a compact disc to all the young 'uns).

TalkBack / Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Coming to New 3DS Models
« on: August 29, 2014, 01:12:15 PM »
I loved Xenoblade, and am happy that this will allow everyone who missed it the first time to play it without shelling $80 for a used copy.

BUT...is anyone who already played it on the Wii going to replay it on the 3DS?   My clock time was 90+ hours on this game (80 for the main game, and about 10 hours messing around in New Game Plus).   I LOVED this game, really, but man, another 80 hours?   I don't know about that.  I've barely started Soul Hackers.   And I haven't even started Millenium Girl yet.

I'll say what we all already know-- for smartphones and tablets, this kind of business practice is standard.

With that said, of course I'm going to buy this at launch.   It's incrementally better, but still, better is better.   It's just sad that I'm not excited the same way I was when they announced the XL.

BTW, anyone notice they haven't mentioned DS backward compatiblity?   It's assumed, sure, and I can't think of a good reason why they wouldn't have DS backward compatibility, but still, they haven't been explicit about it, have they?

I still play a lot of DS games, and the 3DS XL is awesome with it.

I actually bought AC 3 and AC 4 a few months ago (they were WAY cheap) and after having played the first 30 minutes of AC3, my god why is this game so boring.   Why am I spending so much time walking around, why am I shimmying through an opera house during the freaking opera and no one notices that I'm climbing up the fronts of balconies.   Why is this story so stupid and why is do the precursers seem like the stupid man's version of the Ancients from Stargate.

And conversely, you know that level in New Super Marios Bros Wii U where you're jumping up those flying beetle things while the magic extra large bullets are coming from both sides of the screen?  Awesome sauce.

Stargate was awesome, BTW.   SG1, Atlantis, ALL OF IT.

I like how the cover art to DD2 (btw big props for putting that up!) depicts a scene that NEVER OCCURS IN THE FREAKIN GAME.

Oh, how I loved/hated that game.....wait a minute, I'm a mini-retroactive donor for RFN 400.   Hmmm.......

63
I just have Zelda of these so this is a good deal for me, lots to choose from. I think I would go with Pokemon X and Bravely Default, since I think these games have less potential to drop in price than the others. I also want Mario Golf, but since it is $5-10 less than everything else, it isn't the best value of the bunch.

If I wanted to get 4 games I'd probably have to do separate orders...

Actually, most of these games have very little potential to drop.   Maybe Bravely Default--  in the DS generation, Square games tended to stay in print and drop down to the sub $20 range.   But the 1st party stuff....not likely.    Any of the DS Kirby games, Mario Party, etc. all stayed pretty much near initial MSRP.   The only 1st party games that went below $20 were heavily marketed games (which I presume had larger print runs) like Rhythm Heaven and Brain Age, and 1st party published, non-character RPG's like Glory of Heracles, Golden Sun, and DQ9.

So I'd take advantage of this deal.  In fact, I am!   Say hi if you see me at Best Buy, I'll be the one carrying a stack of 6 3DS games (Pokemon X, Mario Party, Mario Golf, Zelda, Yoshi, Kirby)

64
Umm...source link please?

65
I just got one (preorder, I mean!).   Ended up costing $85 after tax and shipping.

Just hope it gets treated better than my Bravely Default collector's edition.

66
I would have loved to pick up Monster Hunter 3 for free. But that game already has a few price drops. Pikmin 3 will stay full price forever. So I'm happy to get it free with MK8.

Yup, I actually just picked up MH3 for $22 from Amazon (U.S.A.)   But NickMitch, don't feel bad.  Wonderful 101 is also going for around $20.

67
Man...I wasn't even going to get Mario Kart until next fall (I expect Amazon will do $5 or nearly $10 off around then, and that will be the cheapest it will EVER be).   But this is awesome.   Like most people around here, I've already got all the games on the list but I've got the Collecter's Edition Windwaker HD with the Ganondorf figurine, and I've hated the idea of breaking the seal on that just to play the game.  Now, I don't have to.  I can just keep it on my shelf, secure in the thought that it will be worth quite a bit of money one day, even though I'll never sell it anyway and I would have been better off investing that money in a mutual fund.

From @Ish_Siliconera:
Quote
@gypsyOtoko Thanks for pointing this out. We missed the last portion of Iwata's quote somehow, which is what resulted in that bit being off.

@gypsyOtoko The article's been updated to reflect the change now.

@gypsyOtoko This is the kind of screw-up that we try to avoid, but sometimes mistakes happen. Thanks once again. We do appreciate it.

Crisis averted?

The updated article:
[Update: It has been pointed out that there's been a slight mis-translation on Iwata's quote asking what Nintendo should be doing. The original text read "任天堂はどんなことをやっていい会社なのか" to which we missed the last part of "なのか," and resulted in the translation of "Nintendo can do whatever they want". This has been corrected, and we truly apologize for the error.]

Well, that's different now.

For a minute there, I was filled with visions of a Nintendo-pocalypse.   Where Nintendo no longer makes games.   Where our only gaming choices are MMO Shooter A, or MMO Shooter B.  The survivors would envy the dead.

Feel like with the eshop now, we will at least see a digital release here in the US. Need games of any kind at this point. And not like another average Zombi U is coming.

Okay, I'll accept a lot of things levied against Zombi U--- Clunky controls (INTENTIONAL!), Unimpressive graphics, or being so incredibly frightening and tense that it actually discourages extended playing.   Oh, and the story is kinda dumb.   But average?  Average?   I don't know about that.

TalkBack / Re: South Korea Gets Bravely Default
« on: April 14, 2014, 12:26:18 AM »
In Nintendo's defense, I'm surprised they're even bothering to release it in South Korea.   Nintendo does not sell a whole lot there, and to top it off JRPG's are barely even on the radar.  SRPG's are far more popular, and MMORPG's, well, we all know about South Korea's fascination with those.

I will be $10,000.00 that this is coming out in 2016...on the next Nintendo home console.  It will be a launch game.

Yup, I went there.

TalkBack / Re: Super Mario World Leads April's Club Nintendo Games
« on: April 07, 2014, 08:21:54 PM »
Oh, it's not THAT bad.

I would get Mario World too, if not for the fact that I got it as a part of a package deal with Super Mario 2 last year.

I've sort of learned that you should avoid buying 1st party Nintendo titles on VC BECAUSE they're far more likely to get offered up on these Club Nintendo promotions.   If you look down the list, the games that have been offered so far include Majora's Mask, Link to the Past, Mario 64, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario RPG, Punchout, Dillon's Rolling Western Starship Defense, etc...

I know that sounds not-so-great, but in this meta-mini-game of predicting sales and discounts which the internet, and especially Steam, have indoctrinated so many of us into, its really hard not to think that way.   I'm sure PS Plus subscribers do the same thing, with like "Well, there's no point in my buying the next Uncharted game because that will surely come up in PS Plus in 6 months.)
