HAVE you SEEN our Earth lately? 🤣
That’s fair. They’re not mutually exclusive though. Here’s how I choose to view our Earth lately:

This is basically an extension of Tony going apeshit on Cap and Bucky. Once you find out someone close to you maybe secretly killed your parents, nothing else matters.
Ehh, I didn't buy it in Captain America: Civil War either. The stakes are significantly higher in Moon Knight.

I think the explanation is that there were two hearts on the scale that needed to be balanced. And because the two personalities were at odds with each other, they couldn't balance. I imagine if either of them tried to balance their own heart by itself, it would've worked better; but if there was a third heart on the scale, it wouldn't have worked at all.
Alright, that makes sense.

Sheesh, here’s a summary of Suns vs. Mavericks:

Apple is reportedly testing iPhones with USB-C

This would be great because I'm on a personal three-year upgrade cycle and 2023 is my next upgrade year.

2022 if Apple embraced USB-C for iPhones seven years ago:

The Dragon Prince

I've been meaning to reply to broodwars' post for a couple months now. This show is so infuriating that I started and stopped multiple times, watched other shows etc.

The Dragon Prince has pockets of good writing. As a whole, it's bad. There are multiple instances where characters hop on a soapbox and get really preachy. Y'all stall so much in this show that these speeches could be multiple conversations or entire scenes where characters do more than talk at the audience.

Here are some plot points that were handled poorly:
  • Sarai disapproving of Viren and Harrow's plan to slay the Magma Titan then going along with it anyway was played off as loyalty, but it's a terrible lesson in a kid's show. She brought up so many good points then was like 🤷‍♀️
  • Kasef's threat was so stupid. After Ezran decided Katolis won't join the other kingdoms against Xadia, Kasef's plan was to *checks notes* sacrifice soldiers in an invasion of Katolis before going to war with Xadia anyway.
  • Ezran abdicating the throne was confusing to me. The writers glossed over a lot here. Ezran decreed that anyone who doesn't want to join the war doesn't have to then abdicated the throne. If Ezran knew Katolis was going to war anyway, he didn't have to abdicate the throne. I'm assuming it was part of the negotiation, but why? He's king. Tell them to deal with it.
  • The soldiers who decided not to join the war ended up joining the war anyway. What the **** was the point of any of this?
  • Ezran got to Storm Spire really easily.
  • Harrow's revenge was some of the worst character work I've ever seen. Y'all invaded a foreign land that humans are banished from, killed a mythical creature for your own benefit, then are big mad because Avizandum (Thunder) defended his own lands and killed your queen. "I do hate him!" I GUESS! Why was any of the royal family even there? Y'all are really not going to take any accountability for your actions. No wonder Xadia hates you mofos.
  • Why is Ezran flying that dragon?
  • Viren's slow walk toward Zym was for dramatic effect. I still can't give them this. The Dragon Prince earned so little that stuff like this simply infuriated me.
  • Callum got wings because of some hogwash about love then immediately knew how to fly. **** off. Also, Callum and Rayla knew each other for like a few weeks, maybe. Calling bullshit on being madly in love.
  • Amaya being gay for Janai. What in the Stockholm Syndrome was this ****?

I actually have problems with some of the representation here. Black king, sure. Except he was benched in the second episode, easily manipulated by Viren multiple times, and repeatedly made really poor decisions in flashbacks. As a king, he was largely incompetent so not a good look. Lesbian queens of Duren, sure. Killed off almost immediately. Rayla was largely raised by a gay couple, sure. Almost bury your gays again because Viren trapped one of them in a coin. Runaan is apparently still alive.

I really hate Jack De Sena's voice. This is a me problem.

I agree with most of broodwars' criticisms on the previous page so I'll only comment on a few things:

Dragon Prince, at its heart, is a road trip show, and yet it takes the characters until the THIRD season to actually GET anywhere. It's decompressed storytelling at its worst, usually driven by Idiot Plot, where the only reason the plot happens is because all the characters are Idiots and don't do the logical thing.
Yeah... that's apt. It's wild how little was actually accomplished in 27 episodes. Comparatively, Toph is officially introduced in Episode 26 of Avatar: The Last Airbender which is where the show really picks up. Before that, there were a couple episodes in Avatar's first season that felt like stalling. For the most part, the team kept moving and doing things so it never felt like they were stalling for long.

And to top it all off, the show's worldbuilding is absolute ****, which is inconceivable considering this was made by most of the talented people who worked on Avatar (with the untalented ones going to work on Korra)
  • For the most part, yeah. The Sunfire Elves and if I squint, Moonshadow Elves were the only ones that had any semblance of a distinct culture. Otherwise, they relied on brown skin tones, accents, and different clothes to give certain groups "culture."
  • Are you sure the untalented ones worked on Korra? The Legend of Korra is flawed but far more competent and coherent than The Dragon Prince. In roughly the same amount of episodes, the Korra team gave us Beginnings Part 1 and 2 while nothing in The Dragon Prince so far touches those highs.
I'm conflicted about the deaf aunt character. On the one hand, she's a cool character. I really like the way she takes charge & fights, and I'm a sucker for Paladin-type characters. On the other hand, her being a general in an army while deaf makes absolutely no sense, and the show never makes an attempt to address how a general who can't hear anything and is unable to quickly communicate with her troops would be an effective combat general.
Amaya was a point of contention for me too. She's a cool character on paper, but she doesn't work in practice. It’s as if the creators have no idea why Toph works and Amaya doesn't. Toph fit so well into Avatar: The Last Airbender's world. Of course, a blind person would be the world's greatest Earth Bender. Bending is how she sees. That's excellent world building. They relay so much information about Earth Bending by flipping the script and turning Toph's disability into a strength, by showing this.

If The Dragon Prince creators really wanted a deaf character to have a similar effect, it would have made more sense to tie Amaya to magic somehow. As a regular human, being an effective general is completely unearned.

Finally caught up on these two. Still have to catch up on What If and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It's okay. Probably the weakest Phase 4 anything. At least Black Widow gave us Red Guardian and especially Yelena. Some thoughts:
  • The same studio with a clear template for superhero crossovers/team ups really tried to introduce a ten-member team in one movie.
  • Eternals felt too long and not long enough. This should have been like an eight episode Disney+ show. A few of those flashbacks could have been entire episodes and would have been more interesting than the movie we got. Without the benefit of more character development, plot points like Sprite's ridiculous heel-turn and Gilgamesh's death didn't hit as hard as they should have.
  • I get Marvel is setting up Black Knight. There was no time for Jon Snow in this movie.
  • Mahd Wr'ry feels like it should be a bigger problem.
  • The purpose of Arishem wiping the Eternals' memory was unclear.
  • The Celestials' plan explained badly.
  • If Arishem "built and programmed the Eternals" at the World Forge, there isn't a particularly good explanation for why each has different powers. At least have them all fly. In the comics, I believe the Eternals have the same powers.
  • Kingo, before the final fight: I have to go now. *slide whistle*
  • Thena: But I've always wanted to.

    *chef's kiss*
  • Go away, Heel Superman trope.
  • All 20 seconds of Makkari vs. Ikaris slapped.
  • LOL at Kro in general.
  • LOL at Ikaris' death. Earth is 93 million miles from the Sun. Think about how long being that extra would take. Comparatively, sunlight takes over eight minutes to reach Earth.
  • Now there's a giant face and hand sticking out of the Indian Ocean. Living on Earth-616 looks like a bad time.

Moon Knight

It's okay. Some thoughts:
  • There was surprisingly minimal actual Moon Knight in this.
  • Steven in general is *chef's kiss*
  • In Episode 2, "Mantarok, Tier, Aretek, Pargon, Pargon, Pargon, Pargon"
  • In Episode 3, I was so sure Harrow looking at Khonshu imprisoned in the ushabti was foreshadowing then Harrow just gets shot at the end.
  • In Episode 4, Layla insisting on having that argument in Alexander the Great's tomb while they're fleeing bad guys is some of the dumbest **** I've seen in the MCU. Can it wait? The fate of the world is at stake.
  • In Episode 5, I'm glad they acknowledged Marc's dad, Elias, was partially responsible for the abuse.
  • In Episode 6, "Are you an Egyptian superhero?" Ugggggghhhhh... Nothing wrong with representation, but Marvel has to trust their audience more. Sometimes it feels like they only do it for the Woke Credit.
  • LOL at Harrow's goon shooting directly at Layla's shield-wing at point blank range and not her exposed legs that are like right there and the other goon, also at point blank range, not shooting at all.
  • Jake Lockley complicates the whole scales thing, but I'm willing to give Marvel the chance to explain that in future Moon Knight appearances.
  • I was waiting for the gold statue guy Steven talks at to get fed up and just stomp away.

Square Enix might have wanted to simply cut bait. It didn’t manage its Western teams/releases particularly well with absurd projections and GaaS nonsense. Square Enix very well could have held out for a sweeter deal. Personally, it’s at least mildly admirable that it was moved on as swiftly as it did.

Jumpman from the original Donkey Kong arcade game.

(Listen! All I'm saying is that I think a game called Mario Kart should really have a lot of Mario's in it, right? It's the bloody name of the game!)
Alternatively, and hear me out, a game called Mario Kart with no Mario or karts.

Illumination or not, I have low expectations. I’ll watch it though.

And the more I think about it, the less sure I am about Jack Black as Bowser. Assuming he uses his regular speaking voice, he would have made a better Wario. Someone with a more commanding voice would be better for Bowser though admittedly, I have no idea how Illumination is planning on changing these characters. In Dorkly’s old (good) videos, they gave Bowser a regal sounded voice which I really liked.

A new Mario game will be released in December to coincide with the movie. It will have nothing to do with the movie.
Mario Movie Delayed To 2023

A new Mario game is still feasible in December as I don’t believe Nintendo has a major title slated for late 2022 since Zelda got delayed. I’m losing points for adding the “to coincide with the movie“ qualifier.

This is why Nintendo should stop announcing games so early, especially Zelda. It rarely meets these self-imposed deadlines. That said, maybe don’t do that anymore? I get there’s probably pressure from shareholders. Then again, Switch has been cleaning up since launch. Did Nintendo really need to announce a new Zelda game that early?

Can’t say I’m even disappointed. A couple teasers and a vague “2022” release window wasn’t enough to build excitement. I need to see a game in a playable state and at most six months away, preferably three, to pique my interest. Otherwise, I don’t need to care about it yet.

I’ve seen a lot of weird takes on this whole thing.

I used to work retail, and I can’t even remember how many times I’ve wanted to straight up backhand customers. I never did. You can’t just slap your cares away. Or maybe you can? I can’t speak from experience. Perhaps I’ll add this to my bucket list.

I don’t watch award shows though I get why they matter to the performers (i.e. they’re offered better roles due to the exposure). I saw Will Smith sucker-punching (slapping?) Chris Rock making the rounds so I crawled out of the shadows to comment on it since I don’t have social media to do so.

Yeah… that’s assault and battery. It's important to note that assault is the threat of action while battery is the physical contact. That’s at least a misdemeanor, possibly a felony depending on the prosecutor. Smith should 100% get arrested and charged for that. We shouldn’t live in a society where someone can get away with that just because they’re rich and famous. There were hundreds of witnesses and it was filmed. That’s open and shut. The Academy just let that happen too then continued with the show as if that was normal. Will Smith made a speech in tears about love. What in the worl………

Chris Rock took it like a champ though. He should also lean into it and keep making jokes. He’s a comedian. Did he cross the line? I’m not here to comment on that. You can joke about anything with the understanding that not everyone is going to like what you have to say and no one has to host you saying it. At the same time, if your response to what someone says is physical violence, maybe you should go to jail then therapy.

I imagine at least partially as a badge of honor for owning something that is universally panned like why people watch Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room”.

I didn’t know where to ask this: is anyone getting a Steam Deck? It’s probably the only way I’m ever going to play PC games. I’m also not sure I care enough to spend $400.

Thanks for the tip. I just watched Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. That’s definitely not blackface though it invokes that imagery to get to the jokes it wants to tell: Chang’s lack of social awareness, going so hard on the dark elf costume only to get eliminated immediately, and possibly dunking on cosplayers. Shirley’s comment on Chang’s costume is *chef’s kiss*

It seems more that Netflix and Hulu merely wanted to preemptively get ahead of any potential blowback. Can’t get called out if they pull the episode first. It’s a shame. Besides being well written, the episode has a strong anti-bullying message. To that end, it does more good than harm though maybe I’m biased because I like the show.

Why? Everyone's acknowledged that Arceus is just a prototpe for these 2 games. Why bother playing the half-baked prototype  when you have the hypothetically fully-realized version of it in the "real next games", and it's coming out later that same year?
As Mop it up mentioned, we barely know anything about the game. I don't know one can jump to the conclusion that there's absolutely no reason to play Legends: Arceus based on next to no information.

I bought Mario Kart 8 and the DLC on Wii U then I double dipped on Switch. I’m not in a rush to buy a brand new Mario Kart since I put Deluxe down for years and only recently picked it back up. The DLC works out really well for my specific use case. I’m fine with waiting until the Switch successor for the next Kart game, Mario or otherwise.

Finally finished the series. Nothing about the remaining episodes in Season 6 really changed my mind about Troy’s exit being the unofficial ending of the show. The actual finale almost doesn’t feel like one, and the show marks the end of the show with the exit of three main cast members, two of them were original (Abed and Annie). It didn’t hit as hard as Troy leaving. I think this is one part Troy’s exit was built up over a few episodes and another part the show never fully found its footing in the last season and a half. There are still some great jokes though. And the new cast members were good in their own way. I rank them: Buzz, Frankie, then Elroy. In an alternate reality, it would have been neat if Ian Duncan (John Oliver) or Roger DeSalvo (Matt Berry) were main cast members in Season 6. The former is absent entirely while the latter guest stars in one episode.

The latter half of the series is odd. They’re not bad, but Dan Harmon’s firing definitely changed the trajectory of the show from an all-time great to the first half is all-time and the second half is still pretty good. In fact, I laughed hardest at the Pierce’s parting gifts scene. It’s the same joke six times and it somehow hits every time. Pedro Pascal moonlighting for Walter Goggins during the pandemic table read last year is required watching.

I have yet to see “Advanced Dungeons and Dragons” in full as Netflix removed it due to some controversy as Chang wears makeup resembling blackface. I’ve seen screenshots and some clips. I get being careful about this kind of stuff though it’s important to understand context. The intention isn’t to mock black people; it’s often to mock the use of blackface. At this point, maybe just stop trying to make that joke happen.
