Nintendo Gaming / F-Zero GX Staff Ghost Help
« on: September 12, 2003, 02:31:01 PM »
I need help unlocking the staff ghosts for Trident and Double Branches, they are the last two that I need to unlock. I dont know if there is some technique that I am missing or what. I have beaten all tracks on master and defeated story mode on normal, but unlocking the Trident staff ghost is proving to be very difficult.

I use Frost Lynx G4 which has a top speed (excluding boosting, falling etc) of 1124 mph. I run trident and take the path on the right first since it has two boosts, then the next split I take the right path, then I take the middle track the rest of the race. I boost like crazy and hit the recharge pits with little or no energy, and I finish around 3min and 14sec. I need to trim like 5 seconds just to unlock the ghost, and 15 seconds to beat it. I dont see how the staff ghost can go so fast.

If anyone has unlocked this ghost let me know what your technique is and what vehicle.

Thanks

Nintendo Gaming / F-Zero GX cannot copy save data to another memory card???
« on: September 01, 2003, 08:46:42 AM »
I like to backup all my game saves so that I dont lose them since some games take a while to complete. So I have unlocked a lot of stuff on F-Zero and I go to copy the save file to my backup card and it wont copy. The garage data copies fine, but not the gameplay data. I even tried creating a game save file with the same name on the second card and them swapping and doing a monual save and it wouldnt work. Is this something Nintendo/Sega put into the game to stop the copying, and is there a way around this.

Besides backing up the game save I also wanted to load in onto my brothers' mem card. I thought I could just copy it over periodically so that they could have everything unlocked that I do.

Ok, so I see now that there are a few pre-order deals out there for Gamecube games, and I figured it would be nice to have an official thread to list all of these as they come in. I'll list the few that I know of, please add more as the information surfaces.

Free Ocarina of Time (N64 emulated game) with pre-order of Zelda Wind Waker. If you didnt get this one when it was offered you are probably still kicking yourself. If you need help kicking yourself let me know and I will come over to your house and kick you too.

Free bonus disk with pre-order of Rebel Strike. You get the 1982 arcade Star Wars game plus some other bonuses. Link

Free art book with pre-order of Soul Calibur II. Link

If there are anymore offers out there please post them here.

Nintendo Gaming / Adapter to use GCN controller for N64?
« on: August 03, 2003, 01:23:47 PM »
I was wondering if there was an adapter out there to allow you to use a Gamecube controller on a Nintendo 64. My Nintendo 64 still has some games I like to play (Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, etc.) and most of my N64 controllers are on the fritz, plus I am really used to my GCN controller and like it much better.

If anyone knows if these exist please post a link.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Series Time Line Explanation
« on: July 22, 2003, 08:46:20 AM »
I see a lot of people arguing over the Zelda timeline, and nobody seems to agree on where all the games fit. I have my own idea about this that I think explains everything rather nicely.

If you have read the Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan you will understand. Basically time can be thought of as a wheel. Constantly spinning, with spokes on the wheel representing different ages or periods of time. The time that is now the present will eventually become the past. Then a distant memory. Then a legend or myth. Then it will be completely forgotten. And eventually that time will come full circle and be repeated.

In ALTTP the ending says the Master Sword sleeps forever. Clearly this is the end of all evil in the world, at least for a time. This is the final game of the series, it has happened in the past (If we consider Wind Waker the present) and will happen again in the future.

While time repeats itself, most of the major events will be replayed over and over again, although each time will not be repeated exactly.

This is where all the games prior to OoT fit in. They may happen in the same time period as the other games or they may happen in the distant past or future.

We then get to the most recent timeline starting with OoT. All the other games that have taken place, or will take place have long since been forgotten and so nobody remembers anything that happened. Maybe there is some myth or legend, but that is all they are since nobody remembers that these events have happened before. Some people that can seemingly predict the future or seem to know more than they should or possibly could (Like the owl in OoT) are able to perceive (if only subconsciously) the other times that this age has come to pass. Since the general events of this time have repeated many many times.

Now look at Majora’s Mask. It would seem to take place at the same time frame, but not everything is the same. There are some similarities (people, items etc.) but there are many differences. This game is describing the same time frame as in OoT, but it is a different cycle. Since the OoT is referred to in Wind Waker I will assume the Majora’s Mask tells the story that happened many ages ago. So long ago that nobody remembers anything about it. There was evil (Majora’s Mask) that was trying to destroy the world and that evil was destroyed by the hero of time. Many ages passed and that time eventually came around again. This time we have OoT.

After Ganondorf is defeated at the end of OoT Zelda does something completely unexpected. Although she was trying to reward link, she unknowingly trapped him forever in a causality time loop. She sends link back in time to a time right before he met Zelda. Link then meets her again, and sees Ganon. Zelda asks for his help, which he provides and eventually recovers the Master Sword, and gives Ganon the power he wanted. Seven years pass until Link is ready to defeat Ganon, afterward he is returned to the past by Zelda again and again and again.

In Wind Waker it talks about the Hero of Time from OoT. Although this happened hundreds of years ago (as stated by the King of Hyrule) people still remember. The story goes that after Link defeated Ganon he went off to another part of the world on another adventure. Clearly this is the story that Zelda told everyone, since only she knew what really happened to him. Since the Hero of Time was trapped in the past when evil attacked the world again there was nobody to stand up and fight it. The world was flooded until such a time that a new hero could be born. One who could defeat the evil and restore peace to the world… for a time.

Well these are my thoughts on the series. Its about the only way I can make sense of it all.

Nintendo Gaming / Why no Pokemon RPG???
« on: July 07, 2003, 06:38:04 AM »
OK, now I hear people talking about a pokemon RPG game all the place. My question is why has there not even been an announcement that a game is in the works? Pokemon is extremely popular and pokemon ruby/saphire has sold something like 6.5 million total units. GCN has very few RPGs, and people want RPGs. So here's an idea for Nintendo, make a Pokemon RPG game. It would probably sell 5 million copies in a few month, so Nintendo has to know that there is a lot of money there. We get pokemon box? Pokemon collasium which looks ok. And pokemon snap part II or whatever. Come on. Give us what we want. We will give you $50 each.

I not really complaining. I love Nintendo. I just cant think of any reason why there would not even be an announced game for the cube. If anyone can think of a good reason why Nintendo would delay this or not make one at all let me know.

Nintendo Gaming / Game difficulty?
« on: June 30, 2003, 08:56:31 AM »
I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the difficulty of GCN games. I really liked WW, but in the end it was just too easy. Its still a great game, but I never died once and only had one fairy pop out once in the final fight versus Ganon.

Metroid Prime was pretty tough the first time through, and I just recently went back and completed it on hard mode. The Omega Pirate was killing me for a while, but I finally got past him and breazed through the rest of the game.

Now the rest of my GCN lineup are all too easy, they are great games, and very fun, but just not challenging. Leaving out party games like SSBM and Mario Party 4 I have SMS, Star Fox, Pikmin plus a few others and the difficulty is a joke. And Nintendo wants to make them easier? I really dont know how they could be easier, unless they make your character invincible, or better yet just have a menu when you start the game that lets you just select the ending you want, and your done, no need to play at all.

If the games need to be easier for more people to complete/enjoy, fine, but why cant there just be difficulty settings like in MP for every game.
1) Normal
2) Hard
3) Extreme
4) ...

This way you could set SMS to the highest difficulty and lets say two hits would kill you, that would make it a lot more gratifying when you  finally beat the game.

Maybe its just me, but when I beat MP and hard I was like "Yes, finally" and when I beat WW I was like "Well, Ok, so what form is Ganon going to change into when he breaks out of his stone form??? .... Oh the game is over??? @#$@"

I must say that I really enjoyed the OOT bonus disk. There are a few games from N64 that I would really like to have for my GCN. I definately would like Majora's Mask released with the Wind Waker sequal. I would also like to see Super Mario 64 released. If Nintendo is worried about losing money, I would be willing to pay an extra 10 bucks for the game if it included a bonus disk. Are there any other N64 games that youi guys would like to see re-released for GCN?

General Chat / Matrix Reloaded Plot Discussion
« on: May 17, 2003, 02:57:29 PM »
I just say the Matrix Reloaded and had a question about the ending. How was Neo able to stop the robots at the end of the movie when he is in the real world? Do you think that the so called "real world" is just another part of the matrix? or does he have some sort of esp now?

Also if the real world is part of the matrix do you think that Neo is real or an AI? The architech says that "The One" is the result of the remainder of an unbalanced equation, so could he be just another program, designed to destroy and then rebuild the zion when too many people have been freed from the matrix.

Think about this. Only 99% of humans will except the matrix so 1% know that there is something wrong. The people in zion help remove these people from the matrix thinking that they are freeing them, but really they are just enterring another matrix. The "real world" is acceptable to these people and so the matrix is stable. Eventually there are to many anomalies (in this case 250,000) and so The One is created. Zion is destroyed and then rebuilt. The matrix starts all over again...
