I once handled a power supply that flared-up in front of my face and made a burning smell. It's safe to say it doesn't work anymore.

not sure if my #'s are correct, but isn't it more like 110% of the userbase??
I don't know the console #'s but last I remember they hadn't sold 14.1mil by then, did they?

We are talking about by Jan '04 here - I'm pretty sure they weren't @ 14.1 mil by then, maybe now, but not by then.

So that means this problem is in, what, every Xbox ever made?

You would think this sort of screw up would hurt MS particularly when they have a brand new system due to release this year. But sadly it will likely do nothing.

No worldwide Xbox is well past 14.1 million, and yes they were at 14.1 million then .... Otherwise the number MS released would be different

Um, those that were on store shelves back then would count into the statistics and yes, this affects ALL Xboxes manufactured before a certain date.

The same thing happened with Dell laptop power adapters. They had you go to a website and enter dates and stuff from the back of the power adapter to see if it was part of the affected group of bad power adapters. Mine wasn't, which was good because I was using it at the time too.

I read that it is about 70% of all units and only about 1 in 10,000 of those is affected. But there is really no reason not to order one though, it takes only a few seconds and is completly free.
