The full game was supposed to come out next week, but instead a Wii U-exclusive mode will come out in April.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/33365

A free online challenge mode for Rayman Legends will hit Wii U exclusively in April, according to the development team at Ubisoft Montpellier.

Revealed in the video below by Creative Director Michel Ancel and Senior Game Manager Michael Micholic, the eShop download will consist of a variety of challenges generated daily and weekly, complete with leaderboards, ghost runs, and support for anywhere from one to five players.

The challenge mode features five different gameplay styles and locations, including the Pit, The Land of the Dead, the Infernal Tower, Dojo, and the Dungeon. The latter section is a Wii U-exclusive mode, using the GamePad to interact with the environment.

The tentative release date for the online challenge mode is "early April," and additionally, the team at Ubisoft Montpellier will also partake in the online leaderboard fun.

It'll probably get ported to the Vita.

OK, so it looks cool. And I love the NSMBU challenge stuff.

I'll probably try this out. This is an acceptable olive branch - especially considering I wasn't going to buy Legends in the first place. And neither were 90% of Wii U owners if it was released Feb. 28 like originally planned.

But at least Ubisoft is kind of, sort of, but not really, making things better for their PR snafu.

In one sense, it sucks because we know the full game is ready, and this is like rubbing salt in the wound.

In another sense, this looks like more fun the the main game anyway. And it's update weekly/daily? And the devs are gonna get involved? Guess I'll have to get this.

I think I'm going to generally steer clear of this.  It may be great and it may be fun, but very few things are fun when played for 5 months straight and I want to go into Rayman Legends fresh.

I doubt that it's gonna be on Sony's portable Titanic.

LOL post of the week. Portable Titanic.... I'll have to remember that.

And to Soren, backlog or not, the game isn't first party, it would have sold OK on the Wii U had it come out next week. But not gangbusters. Just sad because it will do worse in September against GTA V and Windwaker.

I think this is a good move by Ubisoft to keep this game Relevant.

I agree and I'm actually excited to play this when it releases.  It's got leaderboards, it's suppose to up date regularly, and its free so I see myself putting a lot of time into this and I hope others on my friends list do too.

But I can understand Broodwars' mentality on avoiding this in lieu of keeping the game fresh when it comes out. I just hope it's not delayed beyond April.
