Having literally one game every year is just wrong and screams 'cash-grab'.  Nintendo seriously needs to space out the next iterations but sadly that isn't going to happen since it'll be the same people buying it over and over.  I wouldn't be surprised if 5 years from now we'll be on Mario Party 12 on the Wii and Mario Party DS 5.

Anyone else playing it?

How are the gunplay and action elements? Are they pretty frequent or is it a whole RPG experience (as in, slow grinding gameplay)?

The amount of gunplay/action elements really depend on your choices.  If you tend to be Mr. Nice Guy, you end up resolving situations by talking where as if you're Mr. Dick, most situations ends up with a gunfight.

As for the RPG experience, it's really not a grind at all, which is great, because you gain experience from everything you do from going through specific dialogue sequences, decrypting locked items, completing side quests.  It's not like JRPG's where you have to kill enemies over and over.

Mass Effect is a fantastic game.  I'm loving this game and can't wait to play through the game again.  It's no 10/10, but it's still an amazing game.

The dialogue, character development, and voice acting are phenomenal.

The voice acting I would say is the best voice acting I have ever heard in a game.  There is no game that comes close to it at all.

The game does involve a 'dark side/good side' path similar to KOTOR, but it's more of a 'good cop/bad cop' scenario.  The story will finish the same regardless of the choices you make, but how you get to that final point is totally up to you.  You can be Mr. Nice Guy and help everybody or you can be Mr. Dick and treat everyone like crap.

My only dislike with the game so far is the inventory system has to be the worse inventory system I've had to deal with in years.  It's typical BioWare fashion.  God, what were they thinking.

Mass Effect = RPG of the Year.

After spending A LOT more time with the game over this weekend, COD4 is definitely a candidate to me for GOTY and is easily the best FPS at this moment surpassing both Halo 3 and TF2.

People have complained that the single player was too short, around 6 hours is what a lot of reviewers were saying, but to me, it was the perfect length.  I personally can't see anybody beating it in 6 hours unless they are playing it on Easy and somehow avoids dying at all.

The Multi-player is definitely where this game shines.  It's simply fantastic.  The inclusion of RPG elements adds another layer of depth to an already deep multi-player experience.  All that's missing is the matchmaking quality found in Halo 3.

My only gripes with the game, besides the matchmaking being not as good as Halo 3, are issues with the single player campaign namely the infinite spawning enemies, until you trigger the next set of events, and secondly, the enemies ability to throw grenades with sick accuracy.

That said, Call of Duty 4 is a fantastic game.

Frantic is definitely a good way to describe COD4.  The single player mission is kind of short, but the frantic atmosphere makes it so satisfying.

Simply put, the game is fantastic.

The quicker you moved back and forth, the less you got hit. All the while, I'm frantically tapping the "A" button as fast as I can. Both of these maneuvers killed my thumbs. As I progressed, my thumbs got better at handling the stress plus the nova beam made killing SPs a one shot deal, but there would be times earlier where I just couldn't deal.

I'm sure this is much worse in HyperMode.

It is.

Oh god Veteran mode makes these bosses hard! The adventure and exploration parts are all easy as pie so far, but that frickin' first boss! Oh god my hand...my hand... Is this what it's like to be a hardcore gamer?

If Veteran Mode is too hard for you... avoid playing on Hyper Mode.  You'll end up with arthritis.

Your hand hurting is not what its like to be a 'hardcore' gamer, it's what happens when the damage balance is off-balance.

Retro upped the amount of damage enemies take so people will be more willing to use Hyper Mode...Plus, if you haven't noticed already, an enemy is more resistant to regular beams and weaker to Phazon shots when they are in Hyper Mode themselves...

Even though they are stronger when in Hyper Mode, at Hyper difficult, the shielded pirates take almost an entire tanks worth of Phazon to kill them.  It's a bit overkill imo especially when there are multiple-armoured pirates in a room.  Oh, and wait till you face Gandraya on Hyper difficulty, she requires a TON of shots and thats including unloading all your Phazon shots.[\SPOILER]

Oh God, that's what I'm fearing.  That fight took me forever in Veteran mode, I knew it'd be a nightmare in Hyper mode.

Hyper Mode plays exactly the same as Normal except for the fact that Samus is unbelievably weaker.  The enemy AI is still pretty brain dead and the bosses still follow the same pattern.  For instance, the battle with Gandraya went exactly the same as it did for me on Normal except that it took a LONG time to finish.  My wrist was really tired.

In the end, Hyper Mode really comes down to how well you manage your energy tanks.

Am I the only one that notices that you need to unload a TON of shots or even Charged shots to kill a single pirate in Prime 3?  I'm playing on Hypermode and it just takes way to long to kill them especially when they go into Hyper Mode, which is quite often.

Hypermode so far is pretty much what I expected.  Samus is about 3-4 times weaker than she is on Normal (aka Easy Mode) while the enemies are a bit stronger but likes to go into Hypermode a lot more often.

After spending some time with Boogie, I definitely would say this game is a rental at best.  It doesn't do any one thing well and not to mention has such a very small and piss poor songlist with some very, very questionable songs.  Fergalious? wth?  Milkshake? Are you kidding me?

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if it still sells well.

Actually, on a game-related note, I've been thinking about some of the newer MP3 information.  I now think that they chose to release the game this much later in order to have a release date closer to, but before Halo 3, along with the "upping the quality" thing.  If MP3 is equally amazing to Halo 3, but is released a few months earlier, it would be possible to steal a whole lot of Halo 3 thunder.  That's only if the game as at least just as good, though.  Perhaps this was Nintendo's original idea?

I still have to wonder about the multi-player.  What was revolutionary about Halo?  To me, I always thought it was supposed to be a grandiose multi-player experience.  If I'm wrong, someone please fill me in.

MP3 is not going to steal ANY thunder from Halo 3, no matter how good it is.  Halo 2 was outshined by a lot of other games in terms of quality but still went on to outsell those games by huge amounts.

Nintendo is releasing MP3 before Halo 3 and all the other big fall titles because they want to avoid the problems they had with the release of MP2.  To refresh everybody's memories, Nintendo foolishly, stupidly, released MP2 between Halo 2, Half-Life 2 and GTA ultimately limiting the game to ONLY Nintendo fans and that showed by the piss poor sales.

What was revolutionary about Halo was it was the first CONSOLE FPS to actually get a right balance in controls, gameplay, actual narrative with a strong plot, and strong multiplayer experience.  There was no other FPS at the time, and even now, that comes close to what Halo did.

Also, Link is fvcking hot in Brawl.

I thought the exact same thing.  Mario's head is a bit too big.  Kind of reminds me of the SD (Super Deformed) Gundam characters.

Agreed. I hated the idea of them taking out random battles before the game was released, but after playing the game, random battles just seem...archaic. Contrary to what some people say *cough*pap*cough* I was surprised by just how much strategy was required in the battles. The game didn't play itself, I was constantly overriding commands and changing gambits to fit the situation. I would play that game all over again if it were on the Wii.

Also, I guess it could be GoNintendo getting excited...but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii got a piece of FFXIII, especially if the DS gets a game.

Anybody who thinks the game plays itself is a complete moron.  No matter how well the gambits are set up, they will never, EVER, cover every single possible situation.  Heck, even the best gambit set ups don't even cover 10% of the possible situations.

I would die a happy man if that happened. Not too many people feel the same way, but FFXII is my favorite FF to date, and it would be perfect for the Wii.

Square-Enix's Nintendo support has blossomed on the DS, hopefully that has given them a bit of incentive to move some of that support console-side.

Considering how Namco created the PSP version even though the creator said not to, I wouldn't be surprised if Katamari popped up on the Wii.  And with the way wiimakes are popping up, probably a wiimake of the original Katamari.

After watching the trailer, I gotta say, it's pretty damn neat even though it's an obvious rip off of Miis, Achievements, and Second Life.

The service will most likely be free of charge, but it will definitely have DLC.

Let's see how Nintendo and Microsoft responds to this.
