I imagine in this fantasy fairy tale scenario you would probably only use the bottom screen because that's the touchscreen.

Still, as stated numerous times before, a 3DS is not a suitable replacement for another GamePad. 3DS can't function as another GamePad because it's missing functionality. It lacks the magnetometer and more importantly, the analog stick click. Also, the touchscreens are different aspect ratios. You're just not getting a 1:1 experience. Developers can certainly write code in their games to use a 3DS as a controller, but that probably requires way too much effort and probably won't happen.

Touch screen is ridiculously small yes. It would be just too much of a hassle for devs, i think.

Maybe if it was a game especially meant to be played that way and built from ground up with this feature in mind... Something like Mario Kart or such... Then it would work...

People keep pushing this rumor because it sounds plausible. It's not happening.

Yet there's already games coming that are doing just that? Any crossplay game is using the 3ds as an conroller already so the software is already wriiten so it's not the developers are going have to do extra work as the game already exists vs the whole dual gamepad thing.

The Gamepad standard pricing (based on the Japanese model is going be $150+) which means only %.01 of the people are going BUY an extra, which everyone would have to bring their WII U controllers over (which would be logically) if they had one to begin with.

On top of the availablity of the gamepad you're also going have to deal with power. From reports earlier you already read about how it's costs half the power of the system just for 2 gamepads which means you can forget about 4 players playing on one WIIU with all gamepads.

I don't think 4 uPads was ever really expected. And I don't know how that price tag means only .01% of people are going to buy a second uPad. For what the thing does, that's a pretty reasonable price, and it's not like you'd have to buy more than just the one.

As for the 3DS thing, it won't work like a second uPad. FINE. It'll be more like the GBA/GC connectivity, but that is still a good thing. It still opens up room for new types of gameplay, and I can see Nintendo pushing it.

The 3DS cartridge Wii U thing looks like an older patent, so it's probably just another thing Nintendo experimented with that won't go anywhere, like that football controller. I don't think the 3DS would work very well anyway acting as a GamePad since it lacks buttons and the touchscreen is smaller.

It'll be interesting to see how connectivity is used in the future though.

So NOA sent out a PR blast celebrating the 2 yr anniversary of the 3DS launch in North America. After the puffery, there's a list of games on the 3DS, and this is the coming soon listing...

I don't see it coming out with only a little over a year after planning started. There's a better chance of it coming out Q4 this year, but still probably not terribly likely. Unless Nintendo and Namco pull a rabbit out of their hat, my guesses are Q2 2014 for the 3DS game and Q4 for the Wii U game.

I disagree. According to Sakurai himself, Brawl's development began October 2005 and the game came out in Japan January 31, 2008. That's less than 2.5 years from planning to release (I can do the mathz). Summer 2015 would mean Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U will be in development for over 3 years. Given Namco's experience making HD games and probably having all the assets from the first 3 games at their disposal as well as the creator of the series guiding them/telling them what to do, I just can't see the games taking over 3 years, even if there are 2 of them this time.

So Nintendo has a partnership with Sega. The big new Sonic is exclusive to Wii U(looks like mario galaxy engine). Sega has pretty much been weaning themselves off other consoles making mostly PC and mobile games....

2 out of 3 of my favorite fighting series are smash bros and soul calibur, the third is mortal kombat and has nothing to do with the conversation
