I know not what these things mean, but man do I want an ethernet port. Are there usb converters for such things?

Yes. Or at least, there were for the Wii.

There was a fact sheet in a NWR article that stated that LAN adapters for the Wii will work with the Wii U.

I'd actually prefer if Nintendo's pack-in hurt the sales of other mini-game comps.  We all know Nintendo's will be good and everyone else's will be ****.  Mini-game shovelware is what gave the Wii its casual image.  I don't want such titles to succeed.  It would be far better if things start off with shovelware selling poorly so as to discourage devs from making it.

Unfortunately, the message they'll actually hear is "our games won't sell on this thing at all. Pack it in, folks!"

USB:
Four USB 2.0 Ports

I know not what these things mean, but man do I want an ethernet port. Are there usb converters for such things?

If these things are real I expect melt downs like the other websites. Still what does this really tell us? Can't wait to see how far the other systems take their hardware. Despite knowing nothing about specs I'm still convinced the gap this generation from Wii to PS360 will be impossible to replicate, in the graphics department that is.

I want to say that that is old and wrong, but I'm sure some of it is right. IBM has all but confirmed that the CPU is all new and not recycled yet again.

And i could have sworn i saw this posted somewhere like a month or so ago....

when printing the die for the modified watson cpu they could have thrown in some broadways for backwards compatibility. Think of it as another specialized core. On the other hand a modified better broadway core would be an xbox 360 cpu. Its really hard to word these things because they are all under the same family of processors.

@ BlackNMild - I recently saw this on Gaf, seems to be recent, at least by the way they are acting.

No. That's Capcom's decision, they will be the ones announcing it, if it ever comes to the Wii U.

First parties announce third party games at these kinds of events all the time. For all we know, Capcom has been working on it all this time and Nintendo asked them to not announce it until Nintendo wanted too.

Nope, just another round of RE4. It's a test to see if the WiiU is worthy of getting games worth a damn this generation.

Don't be so pessimistic. The only reason why the Wii didn't get good 3rd-party support is because it was so underpowered compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Developers found it was easier to make multiplatform games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 because they were/are so similar in power. It would take more effort to downport a PS3 / Xbox 360 game to the Wii.

The Wii U is a different story. It's the first next-gen console to be released, meaning it will (hopefully) get plenty of multiplatform games this time around. Remember, when the Xbox 360 launched, it got mostly PS2 and Xbox 1 ports, so it will be a similar situation with the Wii U until the PS4 and Xbox 3 are released. After that, it will be an even playing field for all parties.

The power gap between the PS4, Xbox 3, and Wii U should be much smaller this time. Console manufacturers and game developers have to keep their budgets in check.

So, if 1gb is useable, then 1.5gb on the retail system? 512mb is a lot for the OS, but I wouldn't be surprised if they planned it so Netflix is streaming on the TV while junior plays New Super Mario on the tablet.

Hadn't thought of reading it that way. Although since they make a point to divide "mem1" and "mem2", doesn't that imply that the 1gb usable part means that mem2 is for applications/games/etc., while mem1 is for, I dunno, the OS or something?

Considering how much resources your OS and API eat up on your PCs, it's really not that much.

Also about wii u reusing broadway processors as in decade old tech... And it's not really that bad.

How about your own PC using 30+ year old architecture (IBM PC was released in 1981)?

And processor in your PC using 40+  year old architecture (x86 started in 1978)?

And PCs are not reusing that decades old tech because it's perfect the way it is. Hell no. That policy of dragging 70s tech into new future caused lots and lots of problems starting from "problem 2000"  and your Windows Vista losing 1Gb of your 4Gb memory.

But they keep it because PC have no generations when each time they have the opportunity to start from a clean slate. They have to keep BC at all times, not just between generations.

And so they add things like PCI, AGP, southern bridge -- all these patches to keep it relevant to times. And it just piles on and on. Overhead if enourmous.

And that's just hardware. Software legacy cost is even greater and cripples tech inside your PC even more.

Some interesting Wii U stuff coming up tommorow, not 'Zelda Wii U' like, but still quite big and perhaps even unexpected.

@Dinfire Do you know if the unannounced #WiiUlaunch title you spoke of before is still coming this year or has been delayed?

@GT_NoTR Should be this year. Should find out on Thursday at the press event.
