I've been trying to convince Neal that we should start doing that for a while, but so far he hasn't been on board with the idea.

My cousin's father's brother's son told me that Sony Allstar Battle Royal is going to include Mr Game and Watch

You heard it hear first.

Seriously, these made up rumour are pretty ridiculous this year. We have had:
Metroid Starfox Fusion Saga
Acid Ghost
Nintendo buying back Rare.

There's most likely some more I don't recall. I suppose a new console launch usually attracts bullshit artists.

I like that retro SSB idea.  It would keep the two games distinct.  Now I'm going to be all disappointed when the 3DS SSB is really no different than the Wii U one.  What purpose is there for both to exist other than wanting one for each system?  That's like the lame Sony handheld approach, where the handhelds games are just scaled down console games made by b-team devs.  One thing that worked well in the past was that the handhelds were 2D and the consoles were 3D so the games were naturally distinct.  To maintain that they now have to make a deliberate effort to differentiate.  If they don't then we're going to get some redundant games.

Or maybe the 3DS game will be a fully fleshed out Sub Space Emissary .

I doubt Nintendo will release the same game on two platforms, hell even NSMBU and NSMB2 are different. I don't think Nintendo will take the Sony approach.

Dude, we haven't even seen any footage or screens of either games yet and you're already declaring them a rehash of each other?  Have you ran out of current games to complain about so now your complaining about games that haven't even been offically shown yet?

Plus Sakurai already said both versions will be different making your complaints even more baseless.

This. It's not the most amazing platforming adventure game, but it does what it was supposed to do well enough. At least it was a fresh take on the "fighting games having a story" idea.

BTW, I hear Zelda Wii U is coming next year and is called "Clockwork King".

No because we know Zelda Informer is a site that makes up sh!t.  Sakura's statements come from a real interview.

http://andriasang.com/comw97/iwata_asks_smash_bros/

Quote
Specifically, Sakurai feels that a portable system makes the game a more "individual" experience in that, compared to a console, it's easier to make players attached to the data that they've built up and collected. The fact that you're carrying the hardware with you makes for a more personal experience.

The difficulty here is that the current Smash Bros. games haven't relied on rewards, collecting money or raising your character's level. There's no element of gaining experience to make your character stronger, Iwata noted.

Adding the notion of experience would pose a dilmena, explained Sakurai, as there are some players who would get into such a game, while others would not like it. Iwata added that placing a focus on experience would also make the game lose its instant play quality.

What Sakurai hopes to do is have the 3DS version of Smash Bros. allow players to build up their character through battle and rewards, then take their custom character to the Wii U version to face off against everyone. He feels it could be nice if they can make the "personal" portable space and the stadium-like "public" console space mesh together.

Iwata summed it the basic idea nicely: players would spend time on the 3DS version, building up their character and collecting stuff, then show off their skills on the Wii U version.

This right hear is all we currently know about the 3DS version.

This isn't directly related to Wii U, but I thought this was an interesting tidbit from Valve about porting a game to a new platform

Quote
Running Left 4 Dead 2 on Windows 7 with Direct3D drivers, we get 270.6 FPS as a baseline. The data is generated from an internal test case.

When we started with Linux, the initial version we got up and running was at 6 FPS. This is typical of an initial successful port to a new platform.

Then they optimized it for the platform.

Quote
After this work, Left 4 Dead 2 is running at 315 FPS on Linux.

That's why I have a hard time taking criticisms seriously from anonymous developers porting their games to Wii U.

Linux has games now? I've been following Linux off and on since about 1998 when I first heard about it, and it always seemed like Linux's big break was just around the corner, but it just never quite got there...
