Nintendo Power is hyping some new reveal.

Next issue's going to be the big one. In addition to an exclusive cover   story on a huge new title, we'll bring you first looks of half a dozen   incredible games, including de Blob 2 and an astonishing title that   stars one of the gaming's most recognizable heroes. Plus, we'll have   major reviews and more! Color us excited.

Anyone care to take a guess?

Speaking of the future, you may want to mark Wednesday 16 June in your diary. We'll be revealing world exclusive details on a top secret new game in the next issue of ONM. We had to make sure we cover this new game which is why ONM 56 and 57 are both being released on a Wednesday rather than a Friday as usual.

SMG2 doesn't fit in that description assuming they may be talking about the same game.

Considering the backdrop for that page is outer space, I'm going to guess Star Fox Wii (though Mario Galaxy 2's presence is another possible explanation).
 
EDIT:  The other big possibility, considering that this issue will be coming out around E3, is that this will be the magazine's print reveal for Zelda Wii.  Of course, the press conference will properly reveal it long before then, but that's the nature of print.

If the cosmos image is some sort of hint it means we are dealing with some outer space related type game. I don't think SMG2 counts, because that is already a known title so you can't "reveal" it because everyone already knows about it. So my guess is its another space related title. That can certainly mean Star Fox, but it might also mean a new Pikmin title because Pikmin has an outer space theme to it. It of course could also be entirely something different...

But I think the space thing is a hint so its probably something of that nature.

Just like how Zelda was booted from Majora's Mask, Fox cannot be of any substance in this game.  It must be completely about Krystal, and how she decided on her wardrobe.

Let's see.  Assuming it's a Nintendo franchise because it's Nintendo Power, assuming it's got a connection to space because of the picture, and ruling out franchises based on games we already know about, that leaves five possibilities.  "Most recognizable" rules out Earthbound and Pikmin, probably.  F-Zero has recognizable characters, but isn't a character driven series, unless they actually want to put Captain Falcon in an adventure game.  On the other hand, it's well established by now that Nintendo thinks Star Fox is a character driven series, but it can't be that because I refuse to believe it on the grounds that the universe hates me and would make sure I'm wrong.  That just leaves Duke Kirby Forever.  I just don't know.

It could also be some character they're sending into space for the first time, like they did to Mario.  Maybe the mystery girl in the next Zelda is an alien.  Maybe it's another disappointing Pokémon RPG.  Maybe Little Mac's moving up to the Galactic Boxing Circuit.

I'm somewhat disappointed that the reveal will certainly be a sequel of some sorts.  Nintendo makes good sequels and all but I'm getting pretty tired of the same franchises.  I want to see something new and this company seems adamantly opposed to anything new, unless it targets non-gamers.

Star Fox seems likely.  Other than that for first party stuff I guess we've got F-Zero, maybe Pikmin or Metroid.  Why do I get this feeling that Retro is going to reveal what they've been working on... and it's Metroid Prime 4?  God, I would just scream if that was the case.

It could work for Pikmin or Kirby but if you were going to have a teaser for those games would you pick space?  Star Fox and Metroid seem like the most appropriate franchises to use such a teaser for.  With Metroid: Other M being on our doorstep, it's probably Star Fox.  Unless Nintendo Power is a bunch of dumbasses and it is in fact just a cover story on Other M.  They mention a huge cover story and first looks but they don't necessarily connect them together.  Metroid: Other M could be the cover feature and then some other games are the first looks.  The space shot fits Metroid.

The more I think about it the more I think you're right.  The space shot is related to the big cover story, which means the new game starring "one of gaming's most recognizable heroes" could be just about anything.

It seems obvious that the space shot is about the big cover story, which they say is a new game. It's safe to assume that it will NOT be Metroid: Other M.

There is no reason it has to be first party.  It would be third party.  Lots of third party franchises that take place in outer space.  Though if that's the case you don't know what we'd get.  If it was like Gradius Party Bash WE would know it would be spin-off junk but NP probably wouldn't.

You know, there's another Nintendo franchise besides those already mentioned that is noticeably absent from the Wii's lineup so far this generation. The franchise I am referring to is Donkey Kong. Of course, that doesn't fit in a space setting so it probably isn't that.

Another possibility might be (and I really hope this is true) Super Mario RPG 2. The original SM RPG involved a lot of space related junk, if I'm not mistaken with Smithy and the gang coming from outer space to invade the Mushroom Kingdom. It could be something like that.

Then again, it might not even be a Nintendo franchise at all. Maybe it is something to do with Star Wars, or even Star Trek. Could one of those franchises materialize into a Wii exclusive?
