I tried to play XCX but gave up after just a few minutes from the text being too annoyingly small on my CRT or WiiU tablet. Backlogged it until the day I have a massive 100"+ TV to actually make out the text. Hopefully the switch version makes it more playable for people without scanning electron microscope eyes.

I was hoping this would be a switch 2 launch window remake. Actually kinda disappointed by this.

Rumor has it there will be a lot of these 1st/2nd/3rd party remasters and ports filling the gap between now and when Nintendo can start releasing its heavy hitting games for the switch 2 which might be a while beyond launch. I don't expect any of them to be switch 2 exclusive unless they're a port that had no chance of running on the switch but many of them should be switch 2 enhanced.

The regular theme is broken too. The day delay between new posts and it appearing on the home page killed the site's engagement.... Oh it's fixed now.

I’ve seen some people say this is being released so late in the Switch's life not just because of the Switch Online controllers but also to offer a charging device for the Switch successor. It seems like the new system might still support the Joy-Cons but probably can't charge them natively. What's your thoughts on that?

I hear a lot of switch 2 speculation from this but I'm surprised nobody is considering a nvidia Shield-esque screen-less battery-less budget system refresh like the Wii mini for the switch.

I've wanted a playable Zelda with magic Zelda game for over 15 years now. But the nagging thought in the back of my head was how to make the magic actually interesting and distinct from non-magical Link's items. The chemistry/physics engine of BotW seems to be their solution. While magic could break the game and make it too easy like Kirby, they can make it more limited and situational based to make it challenging. They haven't said anything about how you select summons so you might be limited to a set of local ones to find a winning combinations. I don't think they're going TotK building path (at least for the 1st game) and probably closer to great plateau BotW experience where you can rush enemies with spamming summons or you can find ways to exploit the environment + magic.

The only downside is they used the remake LA toy-like models, I rather something closer to the old artwork or anime. I get it that it makes the magic less jarring and out of place looking if everything has a toybox appearance but still...

Sounds silly to say, but not too bad. I was afraid we would be talking 200-300.
It was $200+ a few years ago but then people started importing Japanese adapters for ~$100 and it dropped the prices. I picked one up last year and tested it out with a modded wii + dolphin.

Right in time for the 'death' of Switch emulation, an easy way to dump switch games over USB is here:

Maybe one day the E3 generation will move up the ranks in various game companies' leaderships and bring E3 back like in olden days

They should have made a live action Metroid movie and had Zelda be a 2D anime series/movie with all the tropes.

I guess all the people saying Mario's voice in Wonder was different were correct

14
I read that as in between PS4 and PS5 but closer to the PS4 or PS4 Pro. The canned Switch Pro would have probably been around double the power as the Switch so double that again for the Switch 2 and we're in PS4 Pro territory.

You also forgot Alliance Alive

Does Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon count as another Wii U port?

NWR didn't get to go to Nintendo's Zelda preview event that everyone is bragging about today?

Is the Switch Pro, or Switch 2 on the horizon? and what do we know about that?
Where are all the credible rumors surrounding that?
1. Nothing announced.
2. Last rumor I read, a Switch Pro was planned and quietly cancelled due to some weird thing that happened in 2020.

The story is way more complicated from what I've heard. Originally the Switch Pro was delayed/shelved and the OLED was uncancelled in 2021 due to the chip shortage. With fake internet monies craze dying and chips being easy to get in 2022, they were going to release the Pro/(new) console but decided to wait until patches are available to take advantage of it sometime around spring 2023. Meanwhile, they made a metric ton of Zelda themed OLEDs in spring/summer 2022, which they were forced into storage due to TotK being delayed to May 2023. Since Nintendo wants to get their money worth out of these OLEDs and even has balls to charge a $10 surcharge for sitting on them for a year, they killed the Pro to not compete with the Zelda OLED's sales and delaying it more will cause it to bump heads with the next console releasing next year. The Pro might live on as part of the "Switch" 2's backwards compatibility but Nintendo is considering not even including it. People in the know are trying to raise a backlash about Switch 2 not having any backwards compatibility to make Nintendo change their mind on it.

building homes mini-game

The thought didn't cross my mind but that could be a huge game world mechanic as you literally rebuild Hyrule into a functional state.

I wonder if the physical release on 4/28 is going to be delayed

I've dumped most of my retro games with a GB Operator, Retrode (SNES/Genesis), 6 hacked Wii, hacked Xbox, 2 hacked 3DS's and a stock DVD drive for PS2/1 games. The 3DS is the most painfully slow of the bunch to do. If I were to do it again, I would only dump the .3ds files on the system and install them to the system/SD externally with custom-install. I want to dump my Wii U games but it's going to be another slow slog like the 3DS and I keep procrastinating.

GameCube is where it gets dicey. I bought a whole bunch of mods and a second GameCube (spice) then found out a Wii or Wii U is required to dump GameCube ROMs. I'm exploring a second Wii U that I can hack so I can dump both GameCube and Wii ROMs.

You can dump/play games with a Gamecube if you use Swiss/Cleanrip with a SDGecko or SD2SP2. There's even a replacement for the Gameboy Player disc that has better input lag or better filters.

However, downloading a ROM of a game you own a physically copy of is apparently not legal. Dubious, but I didn't make the rules.

It's a dubiously legal argument that no company will actually bring to court for fear of it being thrown out and setting legal precedent. If you let that fear control you, they win. I've download ROMs of games that were too scratched up to work/dump cleanly and I dare them to come after me.

I always change the voices to Japanese since I can never stand the typically bad English VA in games/anime so I couldn't care less if the voice changed.

From Video Game Voice Actors: How Much Do They Get Paid?
Quote
Experienced video game voice actors will receive $200 to $350 an hour or $50 to $200 per 100 words for their video game voice acting work.

...

However, typically, video game voice actors will receive between $200 and $350 per hour, with a minimum of two to four hours guaranteed per job.

From the "Video Games / Toys, Games, & Mobile Game Apps" section on Global Voice Academy (I cleaned this up because the info is in a table on the website)
Quote
Video Games Non-union: $200-$350/hr (2 or 4 hour min)
Full Buyout Rate. Vocally stressful sessions should be limited to 2-hour sessions. Common per session rate you may see is $500 for 1hr max session.

I personally find the pay rates for actors disgustingly too high in entertainment even if VAs are at the bottom compared to other actors. She's making well over double what the nameless unknown programmers who are actually making the game make; who work 28hr days, sleep in their cages cubicals, and have long since forgotten what soap smells like let alone their family.

I'm not gonna boycott a game just because someone was bitter over getting fired. She doesn't like the pay they offered? Fine, she doesn't have to take it. But that is no reason to not buy the game and this is very unprofessional of her. I actually wasn't planning to buy the game, but I might buy it now just to spite her.

Not even getting fired, but not getting hired at their desired salary. Plenty of other actors and TV personalities ask for more money for a new season/movie/reboot, don't get it, and get recast. I've never seen them call for a boycott to make it seem like they alone were what made it a success. I was going to wait for it to go on sale for ~$40 next year but I'm buying it day one now to spite her too.

To be frank, her response comes off as incredibly unprofessional, and the more I hear of her the more I understand why Platinum recast the role. Setting aside her coming out of her own accord to likely shred an NDA she certainly signed, she provides no proof of her claims as she defames her former employer.

It's beyond unprofessional, Nintendo and Platinum's legal teams are surely typing up legal action against her right now. With all the people on twitter posting images of canceled pre-orders, it's a slam dunk case for damages. If she has a lawyer, they're probably screaming at her for not consulting them first and to never speak in public again.

Switch 2 spring 2023 then?

That actually might not be so far off. The original rumors were that Nintendo was planning it in 2020/2021 but switched to an earlier idea of a Switch OLED due to the chip shortage. nVidia currently has excess future order of 5nm wafers thanks to the crypto crash that they can't cancel which means like with the Tegra X1 chip, they might offer Nintendo a deal they can't refuse to start mass producing the Switch Pro's chip soon.
