Nintendo would also likely have to pay royalties to any non-Nintendo-franchise character they used. Pretty unlikely, given how Nintendo likes making money.

I think they'd rather delve into their own cast of characters instead of actively seek out non-nintendo characters that they'd have to license.

Miyamoto did mention his intention of putting Sonic into Mario Kart. I don't know if he was able to, but it'd be pretty cool.

well one thing these mario kart screen shots remidn me of is mario sunshine...mario sunshine's screenshots looked shitty....but when you actually played the game it looked great. Also Mario kart will mvoe tons faster then mario runs on mario sunshine so...any texture problems...etc wont look as bad at high speed.

funn how you mention f-zero...remember how f-zero x looked like shit but came out as fast as diareah...fast ass shit ....explosive speed.

I really don't care if Mario Kart looks crappy as long as the two-character kart racing leads to high-action fun and isn't short-lasting. Another thing that it needs is more battle arenas(how bout more than 4 this time) Bring back Block Fort!!!

Having Sonic in Mario Kart is a stupid idea. He doesn't even need a fricken kart to beat them. Just hop out and whizz by. But then I also noticed in the screens that the karts go upwards of 100km/h. How fast does Sonic go?

yup, that would be sincerely stupid, he could outrun his kart easily, thats like walking on your hands instead of you feet

Yeah, and TECHNICALLY it'd only take one slash of Link's Master Sword to kill something. Since when have we gotten into details like this? I want Sonic in Mario Kart because it'd be cool playing as him- if your only excuse for leaving him out is he doesn't need a cart, you might wanna spend some more time on that.

That didn't stop him or any of the other Sonic crew from using karts (well, carts), in Sonic Drift 1 AND 2 for the Game Gear, AND Sonic Adventure's Twinkle Circuit AND SA2's racing mode.

About having unique attacks for each character, is this Nintendo going back to its roots? In the SNES version of MK, all of the CPUs had their own unique attak that they would fling at you. Unfortunately, this wasn't included in MK64. I am guessing that is what the person on the back of the cart would be able to do. Bowser throwing fireballs at you, while Peach is driving? Sounds fun to me!

All in all, MK: DD appears to be a blend of features in the SNES version and the N64 version.

Two players per kart, special karts, etc. Ample characters and probably tons of tracks. Looks fun to me.

I just finished play about an hour or two of MK64 with a friend, and dang is that game fun.

BIG DIFFERENCE

if you hadn't figured it out---two players means a co-op type of deal, two characters means two mascots like mario and luigi on one kart.

It is two characters.

You pick Mario, and he races.. and you will press a button when you're near to someone elses cart and Peach or DK will jump on.

(Or so I think)

The first part is right, the second, maybe not.
