Depends. Some ISPs give flat rates for the bandwidth or bandwidth brackets but generally for high traffic sites that'll be more expensive.

No co-lo means they're paying for either a T1 connection or higher. T1 connections range from $300-1000 per month, depending what area and company you're talking about. You can buy a fractional T1 or choke your bandwidth (like IGN does) and hope you don't spend much bandwidth at all.

PGC loads pretty damn fast (at least on broadband. Dialupers, the problem is on your end), so it's rather obvious that the bandwidth isn't being choked. If they aren't colocated (which means to pay someone to host your site at another location, paying only the hosting fee and bandwidth fee), then they at least have a T1 connection.

I remember a radio DJ was talking about how he checked out one of those dating sites and found that, although the ads showed scores of attractive women, the actual women looking for dates on the site looked absolutely nothing like them. Does that surprise anyone?

They're actually square ads which appear at the top of the forum, but now I can't get them to appear, despite having spent the money I donated on bandwidth reloading all those times.

Some dating site should make a big deal about catering to gamers, male and female alike. Rather than trying to lure people in with pictures of paid, airbrushed models, they'd be better off convincing potential customers that they already share a common interest with the men/women on the site.

Seriously, these ads aren't so extreme that they're making PGC unsafe for work. You're just worried that your boss will come around the corner and find you drooling. You just need more mental dicipline. Or maybe more porn. Or less porn. You're not getting exactly the right amount of porn that you need.

My "boss" is just about the biggest male chauvinist you could imagine. He'd stop to admire the ad and insist I don't change the page until he had had ample time to look at it.

I own 25% of the company, so I'm not exactly worried about being fired (too many systems rely upon me to function).

I just make it a point to avoid having women who just barely have their pubic areas covered on my screen while others can be walking past me.

Fortunately, these ads don't show up all that often, it seems.

We are hosted by Webcore Technologies in Austin, TX.  They are excellent but not cheap.  We pay for bandwidth on a tiered rate with no choke failsafe, so if our traffic suddenly doubled one month, the site would run fine throughout and we'd get hit with a monstrous bill.
