The PSP was the only Non-Nintendo system that beat its last weeks figures.
Actually talking about the PSP did anyone else notice that year to date it has sold more then the PS2 and PS3 combined and it's only 5,316 units away from saling more then all Non-Nintendo Systems combined year to date in Japan.  Thats not bad at all.

Ya know, after the PS2 starts declining, I think sony is going to put new emphasis on the PSP. Sony's hope of video game survivial may lie in the portable realm. Despite the PSP being sucktastic in many regards. What else can they do? PS3? 599 DOLLARS

You can readily buy a 20GB PS3 with an extra controller for $490 at Sam's Club...thing is no one's wants it. Just thought I'd throw that out there - adding an extra controller and selling for $10 less than MSRP, but yet fully (over)stocked on the shelf.

It's the 20 gig...  Now if that was the 60  I might be more interested ($10 less and a controller)...

Edit:  I like to have the wireless.  Though if it drops another 10 or 20 I probably pick it up and just get a wireless bridge.

If you want a bigger HD you can grab an off the shelf 2.5" HD. I think I once calculated the cost difference and the 60GB isn't a bargain compared to the 20GB

If it still had wireless yeah I have a spare Sata Drive I could just throw in...  Its just a wireless bridge that will do b/g (I prefer b/g/n but n is to new.) costs ~$90 from what I found.  So it be another $90 to get it online...  That puts us at $580 I already own the PS2 Component cables I just have to find them.  Then you get $50 off for the controller so it be $530, then a quick New Egg search yields that I can get a 250 Gig drive for ~$67 bringing me to $597.  I guess in the end it still be "cheaper", though what I really want would be a 360 this would be the time to grab a PS3 it seems, before the hardware gets borked like in Europe.

It basically breaks down to:
Virtual Cost: $597  Actual Cost: $647  Maximum Cost (tax and like):~$712

or I could get a:

XBox 360 elite with:

Quote

This exciting Xbox 360 bundle features the Xbox 360 Elite System with HDMI and a larger 120 GB Hard drive, an extra controller, a play and charge kit, a LIVE 3 Month Gold Card, two games of your choice and a BONUS Microsoft Xbox 360 Messenger Bag...

For $684 though I still have to have the bridge.  So it be $774 plus taxes and like.  Though I be getting a system which has some games I actually want to play and I wasn't getting a on a promise and backward compatibility.

or I could grab a refurb 60 gig for $495.  I could even upgrade the harddrive and I still come out ahead on that one...

I don't know how reliable they are, but VGChartz says the following are totals as of the 22nd (weeks out in brackets):

1. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 578,417
2. Super Paper Mario - 218,761
3. Wii Sports - 2,535,426 (aka number of Wiis sold)
4. Wii Play - 829,431
5. God of War 2 - 948,469
6. Diddy Kong Racing - 556,039
7. Tom Clancy: GRAW 2 - 477,478
8. MLB 2K7 (360) - 393,566
9. Wario Ware - 513,121
10. Twilight Princess (Wii) - 1,549,059
...
13. Bust-a-Move Bash - 19,849
16. Tiger Woods (Wii) - 180,848
18. Rayman - 441,730
19. Sonic - 218,416
23. Prince of Persia - 51,548
32. Cooking Mama - 60,634
46. Madden - 351,388

If accurate, those are really strong...

I'm sure those probobly are quite accurate since we know people are buying the Wii like crazy.  Now if everyone and their Grandma is getting a Wii, they're going to need games to play.  And after they're done with those games they're going to need more games to play after that.

Unless it's the PSP which people seem to be buying without any games.  I would include the PS3 in that statement as well, but no ones even buying that.

I'm happy for Sonic! It's bombing in Japan... (WHYWHYWHY) ... but it's quite respectable over here!

And Cooking Mama seems to be doing GREAT! HAHAHAHAHA!

I haven't bought my copy of Bust-A-Moove... but I've actually been sorta turned off to it since you can't die in multiplayer if things reach the bottom. Screw that. LOST SALE Majesco! LOST SALE! I love you and all but... c'mon! ... still, 20k is a respectable number for that a title of that quality.

Prince of Persia's sales are surprisingly strong. Have people been compeltely fooled by the rename or have that many people actually not played it? It's much more successful than a game in a similar situation: The Godfather. (poor poor Godfather... *sniff*)

We won't have official sales for another week or two, because of Golden Week, but supposed first day sales were 180,000 copies:

Is there really anything to buy in the way of 3rd party games? Honestly though I think it will take time before the Japanese buy 3rd parties, they still seem to be completely centered on Nintendo, but like NDS is showing that will change. America on the other, I think will be far more accepting of good 3rd party games (as is shown by some of the current sales).

Haha, this is true. Can't buy third party games when the third party games there are rush jobs or have been out for months...

Still... /cry at Sonic's Japan sales. /CRY
