STILL Unrealized: Wii Fishing Game
« on: May 26, 2007, 09:28:10 AM »
Okay. So we finally got SOME announcements on Light Gun Games (RE:4 UC, Ghost Squad), but what about that other big unrealized OBVIOUS use of the wiimote? A good fishing game to get grandparents and children playing together?

Rappala fishing was a bust, and Twilight Princess was highly disappointing in this regard. But where's Sega's franchises? Where's the opportunistic third party that will do this one, simple, obvious, EASY, STRAIGHTFORWARD, path to LOADS OF MONEY?!?!?!?

I swear, this is SUCH a HUGE opportunity, and there are no third parties, big OR small, jumping in to fill the void. Do they not like money? They can easily make a name for themselves this way!

Never before have I seen such a vast swath of wasted opportunity for smaller, independent game developers than I the Wii. There's so much WASTED potential... I... I... ARGHAGRDWKJNDFWJDBAJDNWHNDFWKAJSHD hkdhaukhdasuihdayghgdiyashdqauihduihanKJDHSKJ!!!!

I seen a Fishing game for the Wii at Wal-mart, actually. I might have gotten it too, but I don't even have a Wii and have still yet to see one for sale anywhere other than Ebay for $400...

So anyway, I don't know if it was any good or not. Obviously it isn't a big hit title that is going to top the charts or flood the tv with advertisements, but it may well have been very fun to play. *shrug* Anyway, your game does exist.

I think that's Rappala Fishing, which Kairon alluded to..

Yeah, could have been. I didn't pay attention to the title...

Edit: There will almost certainly be Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon games for the Wii. Both of those will probably contain a good deal of fishing. I don't know if that will be as good as you want, but you never know...

As for dedicated fishing games, I think those are inevitable too. Fishing is something that is very popular and I think the Wii remote is well suited for it. I think you'll see it happen. Probably will be some hunting games too...

Sorry, but fishing is boring. Making it into a game will not fix this problem.

It will come.  The set up of the controller is just asking for one.  Sega Bass Fishing would be totally awesome.

Fishing?  I just go to a low dock and cast the nunchuk into the water.  I always get something big.  I thought everyone knew that the Wii was in high demand.

On a serious note, I think most developers saw the fishing in TP and One Piece, and decided that they probably would steer clear of a relatively niche genre until these games lost interest amongst the masses.  We'll probably see one a few months or so after whatever the One Piece game with fishing in it is released, so they won't have to fight to get sales.

Too bad it looks like crap. Sega Bass Fishing with Xbox quality visuals and Wii controls would be awesome.

A fishing game just isn't a fishing game unless I can hear the carbonation from my beer fizzling in the wiimote speaker.
