Episode 69: The End
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:22:05 PM »

The final episode of Newscast, and all we got was a lousy second circle pad.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newscast/27750

Yes, it's true: this is the final episode of the Newscast. Fret not, however, for this is not the end entirely. Much like the Doctor, the show will regenerate into something new and familiar all at once. We are taking next week off to get all the little details nailed down, and to allow Neal to go and have his honeymoon (send him congrats on twitter @nron10), but in two weeks NWR Connectivity will emerge all shiny and new and ready for your listening pleasure.

But before all that, episode 69! This week, we talk about the much-besieged 3DS and the new second circle pad as well as Dragon Quest X and Nintendo's bold move into an unknown frontier: the Internet! After that, the conversation steers towards the Ambassador games: Zelda II is great/awful, Yoshi needs cookies, and Metroid's password system is fascinating. Winding things down, we say goodbye to Newscast and talk a little bit about the new show, NWR Connectivity.

You can still send us listener mail to newscast@nintendoworldreport.com, and we'll be sure to read it on the new show!

Thanks for everything, guys. We can't wait to share the new show with you. See you in two weeks!

Typical Nintendo World Report. Out for a little over a year and already looking to make a revision? Let the speculation begin. I think they are going to add a 2nd mike to be placed behind their heads for a weird kind of "3D" surround sound.

Hope it's lighter too, the current show is Phat.
Nintendo ID: XCWarrior

If I found out my spouse was checking their twitter on the honeymoon for congrats from some nobody, I’d break the damn computer. Or, have some serious regrets; but I don't, because I'm not married, thank God.

The making of the game is entirely playable offline.
You don't have to worry about playing online the game if you don't want to.
You don't have to play online, I guess.

However, according to the FAQs of the official site, only first a few hours can you play the game offline, so I think what you can play offline is tutorial, and online subscription will be virtually required.  :(

In Zach's defense regarding Zelda 2, I don't think that Thunder spell was an insta-kill for the Thunderbird boss; it just changes his color and makes his vulnerable point appear.   I've beaten Zelda 2 several times, and that boss still gives me fits.   It's a huge jump in difficulty from the previous bosses.

At least you can use jump/stab head technique with the final boss. :)

On the subject of Monster Hunter, I had thought that I read that Capcom was fairly happy with the sales.  Sure they weren't through the roof, but I thought they were respectable, especially considering the anemic performance of console JRPGs in the West.  I loved Tri, but had to give it up once kid 2 was close to arriving;  I didn't need another time sink keeping me up all night. :D

Anyway, I look forward to the launch of the new show.  I'm sure that great things are coming.

Hahah I forgot to mention it was KisakiProject in my email.  Or proof read enough my email (as I was writing it quickly at work before anybody could notice I wasn't working.)

Anyways I'm super sad this podcast is ending.  Hope its successor still has the same cast.  Still miss Nathan.

Also if they need to redesign the system all ready they shouldn't have put it out and charged me $250 in march.  They should have waited to launch it.

Basically we're relaunching with a second slide pad.

Also, rumor has it that Nathan threw all of his Nintendo products into an oil barrel and set them ablaze while screaming "AMBASSADOR THIS, FUCKERS".  Afterwards, he could be heard mumbling obscenities related to a free copy of Wrecking Crew as he fired up his Steam account.

I guess we'll never know the truth.

That goes against what I read, but it is from a much more reliable source, so I believe it.  In that case it REALLY is an MMORPG at it's heart.  I'm kind of shocked Nintendo would allow for that, but I guess they had Phantasy Star Online back in the day, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

Maybe I'm the anti-anti-Neal, but all the negativity is tough to stomach. I appreciate Scott's level-headed message to calm down - "it's going to be okay." I'm not worried about my 3DS, and I'm frankly quite happy with the 10 NES games. The older, more arcade-style games are perfect for quick pick-up-and-play sessions, whereas something like Kirby's Adventure as a longer platformer might not work as well on a portable. Yoshi is actually pretty addicting, Golf has completely sucked me in, and Wrecking Crew is a fun little history lesson. Come back soon, Neal. Sometimes it's okay to be an apologist. Better that than a curmudgeon.

I remember being disappointed by Mario & Yoshi on the Game Boy, I was hoping it would be a Game Boy version of Super Mario World, not a crappy puzzle game. It's the only GB game I sold off (at a flea market).
