NWR Forums Discord / Chasing squirrels
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:12:48 PM »
Those squirrels have spent the whole day shoving nuts in their mouths. I finally just had to take a stick and beat them. I beat them hard. My God, I was sweating when I was done. Damn squirrels. I can finally concentrate on what I need to do though. Sometimes beating a squirrel is what it takes. And I got it to spit the nuts out :D

Anyone else have a day like that?

I guess it just goes to show, slowly but surely my efforts to clean up the Funhouse are working...

This is my post to do some boasting.

A few of you may remember JonLeung. He doesn't post here much. He has his own site that he hangs out at most of the time. His site though used forum software called GF++. Piece of hack crap software. Seems that there are some large bugs and people know how to hack the scripts pretty easily. Some jerk found the site and decided to make Jon's life miserable.

I was able to take the database from GF and transfer it over to SMF. YES! It was a long job, thanks to the mismatch of data collection, but no major piece of information was lost in the move. I did spend way too much time on it, like 15 hours, but it was a good learning experience.

I now know more about SMF's data structure than most of you. :p

General Chat / Social Networking anyone?
« on: August 27, 2009, 11:28:58 AM »
Anyone here do Facebook? Anyone brave enough to post their profile so random internet people can find them? I am making this thread but dare I post my link?

No.

But I think I wouldn't mind some of you in my list of friends and a PM would be a good way to share the link.

Consider this thread the place to go and say you're a friend whore and want as many people as possible to show off to your old classmates how many friends you have. That's a joke. Please add me.

Do NOT talk about his career, as long and storied as it is. This is a memorial in his honor.

You will be missed, Ted.

« on: July 07, 2009, 12:05:22 PM »
Yes, indeed. I am now expecting my fourth little one with my wife. The other 3, Olivia, Rebecca, and Natalie, are excited.

Olivia will be 5 in September, Rebecca turned 3 in March, and Natalie will be 2 in November. The new one is probably going to show up in March. Talk about a full house...

A true legend has passed on today.

As there will be no other Bruce Lee or Jim Henson, there will be only one David Carradine. I honor you and will miss you.

NWR Forums Discord / Nine Inch Nails and the brothers
« on: June 01, 2009, 12:06:50 PM »
Last night I saw Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction in Detroit. What I saw:

A sea of 30 and 40 something white, balding, greying manchildren, with their wives/girlfriends. Just watching the show trying not to spill their beer. Where the **** did the mosh pit go? Next time keep the women home or tell them to wear their combat boots damnit.

What I didn't see:

Black men. None, zero, ziltch. What do black men have against Nine Inch Nails? Especially with all the EXPLETIVE going around! Oh, there were black women there, shaking their thang. And plenty of latinos too.

Its a conspiracy, shhhh!

General Chat / The High End of Low
« on: May 26, 2009, 05:17:31 PM »
I've been a fan of Marilyn Manson ever since they appeared on the scene. I saw them in concert before they were headliners, I created my own costume of Marilyn one year for Halloween. I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would have been awesome with Brian Warner as Willy Wonka.

That said, I haven't really been impressed with what MM had been doing these past couple of years. One aspect that attacts me to their music is the rock anthem sound. The Beautiful People, 1996, Rock Is Dead, The Dope Show, all classic rock songs done the way only MM can do it. (Antichrist Superstar is such an awesome album all around.) Then comes Holy Wood, and it seems to fall apart. Its almost noise just to be noise. Golden Age of Grotesque didn't bring it together either.

Now comes The High End of Low. And the return of Twiggy Ramirez. But the album isn't a return to the late 1990s early 2000s. Its more of an album than a collection of songs. In so being that way, none of the songs really stand out. A few song approach the anthem attitude but not fully embrace it. More songs are used to showcase Brian's singing and not his screaming, though there is still plenty of screaming and gurgling.

Overall, each song is its own, its the trademark MM sound, nothing is outstanding, but its better than previous efforts since Holy Wood, even if marginally.

Nintendo Gaming / Quake HB
« on: May 23, 2009, 03:21:53 PM »
I finally got around to doing the Homebrew and was browsing the downloads. There is a shareware version of Quake 1. Its going to take some practice but it feels great.

The one part that stands out though is the gun is oriented on screen based on how the wiimote is held. Turn the controller upside down, the nail gun goes upside down and held at the top of the screen. The goofy thing is if you flail around you can see the entire gun model, just floating in air.

If you have the chance and don't mind old old games check it out. Consider it a primer to the release of the Conduit. (Doom is available too.)

General Gaming / InFamous
« on: May 22, 2009, 09:36:13 AM »
So, anyone else download and play the demo?

I'm not so impressed with the game based on the demo. I like that the environment is more interactive than I would have given credit for. But the camera seems to lock on 'points of interests' making it a pain to look around sometimes. Jumping around has some funny behavior too. Someone wrote that the character is magnetically attracked to ledges, and that really happens, almost to a fault. I was trying to jump from one location to another, but I passed too close to something else and he latched on.

What is kinda cool is you don't fall by walking off ledges. You just can't. You have to jump to get down.

The lightening powers aren't all that. Its like having a gun and a grenade. But just one kind of gun and one kind of grenade. Then link your health with how much ammo you have, and you can only refill your ammo from sources of electricity.

The game should be compared to Crackdown, and the demo of Crackdown compared to the demo of InFamous, Crackdown is far more satisfying. There are islands with bosses and random bad guys shooting at you. There is the hero jumping and shooting and gaining new levels based on experience. There is some mysterious voice in the background. Ok, the main character in InFamous is a skinny white dude while Crackdown has guys who are anything but skinny white dudes.

So, once again, we have a PS3 exclusive that is being hyped and getting rediculously high scores that it doesn't really deserve.

It was an awesome movie. Go see it.

All of the reviews had been so quiet about the spoilers, I had no idea what was going to happen. It was so neat.

That said, I don't like the new kid as Kirk. And I'm not really fond of the new Checkov and Scotty. Everyone else is alright. I kept picturing seeing them in a weekly TV series, and I just can't do it.

General Chat / In Blackest Night

I haven't read a comic book series in a while, thanks to the lack of a local store and me unwilling to subscribe to an online store. But I am so stoked for this upcoming series, its driving me nuts! I picked up the Sinestro Corp Vol 1 and will be getting vol 2 soon. I figure its a good place to hop in and get some background details.

Now though it seems I should have been reading Batman R.I.P. as he may be coming back as a Black Lantern, along with Black Hand, Martain Manhunter, and Kilowog. Ah, yes, those without DC knowledge would be so lost.

Anyone here plan on picking the book up?

General Gaming / Halo Wars?
« on: March 10, 2009, 02:58:37 PM »
Any players? I'm kinda addicted to it. I'm trying to figure out the best strategy at getting things going in the skirmish part of the game. I'm playing with the difficulty set to auto, which is represented by a number I assume is 1 to 100. And I usually play as human. I do ok up to around 77. Then I get pounded by vehicles and I don't even have the resources to build a vehicle depot. Also, playing with AI players on your side sucks on the higher difficulties. They don't do **** and get wiped out fast or refuse to help me when I'm getting wiped out.

I'd go online to play random battles, but I still feel like a noob and will get bested by jerks who know all the glitches and what not. I really just want to play with people against bots, but I don't think that option exists.

General Gaming / Killzone 2
« on: February 27, 2009, 10:25:39 PM »
I put in an hour and a half into Killzone 2. It was a frustrating experience. Ever since the N64, I have a disdain for game where its difficult because of the controller and not the objective. As you move, your screen is moved up and down thanks to 'head bob'. Ok, other games provide it but other games also let you turn it off. Fine, you don't really run and gun anyway. Let's put in some headshots and be on our way.

AARRGGGG MOTHERFUCKER SONOFABITCH

The first Resistance game pretty much nailed the controls of a FPS on a PS3. The analog sticks in this game have holes large enough to drive a truck through. Seriously. When I gently move the stick, I expect a rewarding likewise movement reflected in the game. Well, **** you says this game. Gently move the stick and   and   and  ah now I'm moving, but I'm moving too fast for what I wanted to do and now I'm right in the line of fire. Now I'm being rushed but I can't get the dude to bring his gun up   wait he's moving and damn it I am now looking at the ceiling while eating the butt of a rifle.

I do not like this game. I did make progress but I don't feel rewarded for it. I feel like I had to cheap out just to get as fas as I did. Sure, the graphics are great, but I'm not looking at the graphics when I'm trying to pull off some headshots. I'm glad I only rented this game and wish I did the same for Resistance 2.

General Gaming / Official Fallout 3 Thread
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:26:33 PM »
Recent reviews have put this game on my radar. I have not played Oblivion and really have no desire to. The original Fable was pretty interesting and I feel a slight tug to play the new one.

I would like to see how Fallout is recieved by others here so I can make a better decision on the purchase or if I should even consider spending $8 on renting the game for a week.

General Gaming / What was that game?
« on: September 10, 2008, 12:34:40 AM »
I must be getting old. That or I'm trying to remember something I'm better off not remembering. I played a demo, first person shooter, that had enemies coming out of shadows, escaped convicts, and these sonic thing a ma jigs on walls that you to switch your vision or something in order to see them.

Any help would be great.

Hot damn! How long have I been floating around these boards? And only now I hit 1000? That's pathetic.

Slow and steady wins the race. That's what I tell the wife anyway.

These many years have I watched this forum grow and evolve. I feel like on some level I know many of you, like those kids who sat around me in science class. Always ready to cause some mischief at the expense of the instructor. And while we have an awesome time in class, if we see each other out in the real world, we barely acknowledge one another, or we'll talk about 'that time in class'.

Some of you maybe I don't want to know better, some maybe don't want to know me better. I wish there were more times like that weekend in Illinois (without the trip through Hell thankuverymuch).

So, from my first 1000 posts and on to the next 1000 posts (to be completed by 2013) I want to say thanks for reading or ignoring my posts and I look forward to the continuous amount of entertainment being here provides.

Oh, btw, in case I actually have to say it, don't no one read too much into me not wanting to know someone more than I do. I'm just saying that I like pap fine now, but if I learn too much about his excrement hobbies, I may be sorry I did... ;)

Oh man. I wish I had the time to play this game.

This thread is for the lowest of the losers, those who didn't sign up, but want to comment on the game. And NO CHEATING in here either!

But 'Pelvic Thrust' What a great comeback.

Poor GP. She never lasts a day. You'd think James Bond would know how to treat a lady. And she had a role that would have been fun to play.

EasyCure will probably last till near the end, if not go all the way. Kashogi will find a way to screw up ;)

Pap, too bad. It happens to the best of us.

General Gaming / Batman Arkham Asylum
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:07:35 PM »
Ever since the first time I played Goldeneye, I have imagined other properties being given a similar treatment. Being a comic geek for a big portion of my life, one of my fantasies was for the Arkham Asylum graphic novel to be turned into a game. Its the stuff dreams are made of.

Just recently a game was announced with Arkham Asylum in the title. But its of no relation to the Grant Morrison/Dave McKean classic story.

Pictures have been leaked on the net, with Kotaku being one place to see them. People are saying that it looks like Chronicles of Riddick but with Batman, and I tend to agree. The images of the Joker are great. Batman, I don't know. I'd love to see the little curls on the shoulders like how Dave did them. Batman's suit looks a bit like the tech suit in Mortal Combat. In fact, the first shot I saw I thought someone photoshopped Batman from MK:DC into an old promo of Riddick.

Right now I don't know if I should be excited for the game or not. I'm pretty pleased with the look of the game, but until gameplay impressions come out I'm holding onto the hype.

Nintendo Gaming / Quantum of Solace

I was browsing the Nintendo channel this evening, and there is a Quantum of Solace trailer on there. I figure this should be some decent news as its the first media I've seen for the game on Wii.

You all should go check it out. Its not mind-blowing, but its better than Alone in the Dark... ;)
