Topic: New Super Mario Bros high score challenge!

Alright I recently started speed running this game, after Bill informed me 370 in the first stage "could not be beaten". My best so far is 369 but I think there was an extra two seconds at LEAST that were extractable out of that, maybe.

So basically everyone post the best times you can get upon hitting the flag in each level, we'll just start with World 1 and if this takes off add more! Oh yeah and NO CHEATING and starting from the checkpoint, it'd be pretty obvious if you did that anyway. I guess we'll have to rely on each other being honest, since taking a screenshot of the end of the level can be easily misleading since we dont know if you restarted at the checkpoint or not. Also the fact that lying about a videogame score on the internet is the lamest thing you can possibly do. Together we'll figure out the best route in each level! If someone wants to post a video, feel free!

Ive already beaten the game, and i only played it for 4 hours. I also figured out most of the hidden routes and stars.

Stevey how did you get the extra second in the first level? I think i've concluded that running / jumping at full speed with no mistakes and no downhill running makes 370 the highest possible time. UNLESS you managed to get the star without slowing down?

If someone feels like posting a time from another level in another world then just go for it and i'll add it.

372? Good gravy. Are you jumping straight over the staircase? Using Mini Mario or jumping from the koopa there?

EDIT: Just got 371 I can see how it's possible now, brilliant level design, it's like this was made for speed runs.

YES! Got 372. Once I figured out the pipe it was all about making a perfect run. I actually think there's another second there since if I can manage to clear the end staircase in one jump.

How annoying...I was so intent on finishing the level above ground that I didn't even think about using underground passages...Using the method in the video, 372 is cake... =|

I doubt it.  Pretty much the same with 1-3 as well.  With no stopping at all on that 370 is the best.  Maybe with mini?  Haven't tried that yet...

Yes, I figgure out how not to slow down going over the stairs got 372 and was so close to 373 just mess up a little

Care to enlighten us (or at least me)? No matter what, I have to almost stop somewhere on the stairs and it must take at least a second of my time.

Edit: I just got 373 twice in a row! (On stage 1-1)

I was able to avoid the slow down at the staircase by jumping while crouched down. First I jumped about half of the way up, then all the way over. Then it is just a small jump to the flag pole. Do all of this with good timing and you can get over the stairs with minimal slowdown.

I can't for the life of me get 373. No matter what I do on the staircase it's 372. I'm giving up since i'm obviously missing something here. Does it matter if you're fire mario or little mario or whatever?
