Hi Brandogg--I have a Wii DVD Drive question for you, since you seem to know the hardware.

I just picked up Call of Duty: Black Ops Wii, and I keep reading about how it will brick your Wii optical drive because of the intense disc reading required to stream all the map content.

That being said, if the DVD Drive goes bad and I replace just the DVD/optical drive, is my Wii hardware still the "same" or do I lose all my WiiWare games?

I'm waaaay out of warranty and I don't mind cracking open my console and swapping the optical drive, as long as my Wii is still identified as the same piece of hardware as far as Nintendo and my Wii is concerned--same ID number, same friend codes, etc.

Otherwise, I think I am going to be selling Black Ops on ebay--the cost of admission seems mighty steep. Thoughts?

Bought it today, factory sealed at Gamestop, without a pre-order. It looked like they had about a dozen copies behind the counter.

I was going to hold out and buy directly from Nintendo (to send my "message" about how I choose to buy my games), but I got weak, and was able to actually have it in my hands.

On the plus side, I also snagged a "like new" copy of "Mega Man Anniversary Collection" for Gamecube--turns out the cashier had actually traded it in from his own personal collection.

You can't even find Wii guitars in the stores. I sympathize with their financial woes, and I know the Wii is a difficult platform to succeed on, but if you don't supply affordable peripherals for people to use with your game, then no one will buy it.

Mmm... the tagline is good, but shows a little desperation on Sega's part--perhaps it is the best way to try and get customers to understand that this game has it all. I do like seeing it right there on the cover--online is critical for the hardcore gamer, and split screen is important to the casual Wii gamer.

The artwork sure is better, but it still needs some more spice, something that makes it seem unique to the Conduit brand.

The logo and its type face selection is poor--it screams generic and looks like it comes from a DS title--they should have built upon the logo from the last game to extend the brand.

Is Nintendo sharing their survey data with 3rd party developers? Between Wii recommendations, Nintendo Club memberships, and other efforts at surveying, I wonder how close Nintendo holds these cards to their chest.

It reminds me a lot of the 3rd party complaints with the Gamecube. Does Nintendo still not make enough efforts to support 3rd party development on their hardware with this new generation? Does Nintendo even care?

I can't stop wondering about the differences in how distribution is handled between the consistent top selling 1st party games like Mario Kart, and potential 3rd party hits that slip by, like GTA: Chinatown Wars. What is the disconnect?
