Just saw a commercial for Olympus Has Fallen, which opens today. Even though its only March 22, the announcer called it the first big movie of the summer. SMH. I was like WTF, trying to call it a summer movie when it's only March? I'm sorry, but the summer movie label is reserved for Memorial Day and later.

Considering that a lot of summer movies release their movies at the beginning of May, like Iron Man, your argument is invalid. Though I agree that calling Olympus Has Fallen a summer movie is ridiculous.

Memorial Day is the traditional date, but yes a little earlier in May is sometimes used. But I don't think anyone could consider a March release to be part of the summer movie season. Hell, Spring only started 2 days ago.
