Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:45:06 AM »
I downloaded the free multiplayer FPS early today, after trying to do so two or three months ago, but today, I faced the same problem I did then.  I tried like seven servers...it takes like ten minutes on the "Loading" screen, and then says, "Disconnected from server for unknown reason."  I have HTTP/FTP downloads turned on and all that crap...help?

Do you have a firewall running?

lol...I can't believe it was so obvious...does any1 know how to disable it?  I don't want to permanantly turn it off, just disable it when i want to play, and re-enable it when I'm done.  I'm not sure exactly WHICH firewall I have...lol...

If you don't know what firewall you have that'll be hard. Router? WinXP internet connection firewall? Other software firewall? I assume you don't have a hardware firewall, since those aren't meant for end users.

If you have a router, it needs to be configured to allow online play, try reading up what ports you need to accept and how to do that. If you use some software firewall, make sure your Windows has the latest patches before you lower it, Win 2k and higher will immediately get infected with a whole sh#tload of worms if you connect unprotected and unpatched.

First things first, close all the buttons in the quicklaunch in the bottom right of your screen off.  Second, go to control panel, network connections, and then to your ethernet port.  Find the tab with firewall, and make sure it is off.  If that doesn't work, it's probably the router.

Manunited, I'll try it, but I'm pretty sure that's for XP...I'm using 98.
