Nintendo Network
« on: June 06, 2012, 11:19:16 PM »
Just what is Nintendo Network? Satoru Iwata discussed it briefly in one of his investor's meetings a month ago. And E3 came and went without any new info on the service.
Despite this, we are already seeing this logo on a few 3DS games. And Nintendo says the service will come to the Wii U. Why would Nintendo put the Nintendo Network logo on game boxes, and fail to discuss what the service is?

Miiverse Is The New Name For Nintendo Network?
At E3, Satoru Iwata unvieled a new social messaging service called "Miiverse" for the Wii U, and stated that it will also come to the 3DS and mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) in the future. We were all expecting details on Nintendo Network, but they acted like it doesn't exist.

Is Nintendo Network just a name? Or is it an actual online service comparable to Xbox Live, Steam, and PSN?

no miiverse and nintendo network are two seperate things. At the pr-e3 show Iwata talked about both. He was talking about how Nintendo Network would be used for platforms for ages to come, mii verse is just something that runs on Nintendo Network

Well what role does Nintendo Network play on the 3DS?

It's supposed to do away with friend codes, yet the 3DS has them still. The online games so far have no form of matchmaking, game invites, friend requests, etc. Can Nintendo add these features to the 3DS in the future?

Why put the Nintendo Network logo on 3DS games if they don't represent what the service has to offer?

It seems like more of a rebranding than anything substantial, at leas right now. I'm not sure even Nintendo knows what the final product of it will look like on Wii U at this point; we'll hear more closer to launch. Nintendo most likely does have the ability to patch any improvements in the online infrastructure into the 3DS; whether they will is a different matter entirely.
