ULTRA BOMBERMAN THREE THOUSAND XTREME
« on: February 15, 2006, 04:30:16 AM »
Edit: Apparently this is somewhat old and was shown in trailer form a while ago.  It's still the first I've seen it so I'm leaving my thread.  =P

So, they're making a new Bomberman for the 360 right?

Well, being that its on the 360, it has to be all mature right?

But why would they make Bomberman all 'mature'?

They wouldn't be that dumb right?  I mean... it's bomberman!

Oh, how silly...

NO!!!

Is this THE Bomberman, like the Hudson Soft one?

Oh, the blasphemy!  Where's the cute big-U-shaped-eyes? ;_;

At first I thought that first pic was concept art from the upcoming Iron Man movie...

I'll stick to the SNES Super Bomberman, thanks.

I think this is the perfect example of companies trying to hard to appeal to the supposed desires of the populace.  Really, everyone thinks cartoony games and characters won't sale anymore.  People want more mature edgy software, but look what it gets you.

Almost every "realistic" and "mature" game is so generic and crappy that its laughable.

However, look at these supposedly cartoony character games, and you realize that more depth, game design and character is placed in the game than all Xbox 360 games combined.  (Ok, sorry for my biased.)

I expect the game to do well too...  and half of the X-Box population won't know its an old game that has been released on every platform ever.

That reminds me out a horrible 80s sci-fi horror movie.  The ones that are too cheesy for even Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I'm an Xbox fan, born and raised!  So if this Bomberman game ever existed before now, I'd sure know about it.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Let's not forget that Bomberman is going back to his roots!

That's disgusting.

If Hudson is suffering low Bomberman sales then maybe they should stop making so many Bomberman games.  After Saturn Bomberman I've lost track of them all and overexposure is probably what's hurting them, if there's any sales problem at all.

Part of the charm of Bomberman is the goofy cutesy style.  If you don't like Super Bomberman then you're probably not going to like Bomberman period.  I doubt anyone who isn't a fan of Bomberman now would become one because of this.  In fact this is probably going to turn away fans in droves.

Has there ever been a situation where a series sold out and totally retooled itself to be "extreme" and "edgy" and it paid off?  For pretty much anything that seems to be the last act of desperation before it dies.  I've seen successful slight reinventions or "back to basics" approaches work but I can't think of any time a successful franchise totally rehauled it's look in such an obvious sell-out way and it paid off.

Oh, great.  Returning to "roots".  That's just crappy box art.  If that was the case, I wouldn't want Mega Man returning to his roots...and turning into a slouching 40-year-old with a gun.

I'm sure you've all seen the original Mega Man NES box art so I don't need to explain myself.

When I found an import game rental store near West Edmonton Mall about a decade ago (has it been that long already?  o_0) one of the games I rented more than once was Super Bomberman 3.  Man, I loved that game.  I liked the first two, sure, but 3 embraced its anime-look to the max and wasn't old yet like with Super Bomberman 4 and 5...

Mario as a realistic plumber?  That would be...icky.  I certainly don't want to be jumping in pipes.

Though Giga Bowser, a boss in SSBM, looks way more menacing and with the so-called "mature look" than The Monitor, the boss of Halo, a cute little flying robot eye, who likes to flit around, making narcissistic comments while humming.  How stupid.

There are two things you can count on in a mature sequel:

Bad music and the word "Zero"

Please explain to me the usage of 'zero'. There is no story to bomberman that anyone actually follows, there is no need to do a prequel.

My favorite part of all this, however, is that the actual in game graphics just like like the SNES game with the brightness turned down.
