Nintendo patten on online console play?
« on: August 19, 2004, 12:10:40 PM »
This is the 1st I have heard of Nintendo going full force into online play.
Not only are they taking the plunge but it sounds as if they are making it so that other consoles might not be able to follow.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/19/nintendo_online_gaming/
anyone heard anything more on this yet?
can they really paten online console play?

This is not anything to do with the DS this is general Nintendo discussion and not intended to be about the next system or the DS but Nintendo and if they have truly got a paten for online play or not.

There is no reason to lock the possible discussion of such a topic without full facts disproving or proving this in any way shape or form. Not unless  some mod here actual has something against the discussion of Nintendo that we should know about?
is this still a discussion forum or not?

I'd like to hear more about this, true or false and all's opinions on it either way.

I think it's for the 64DD. It hasn't come out yet.

Stop what?  lock why?

i am interested in what's  the deal with this?

are you saying your not?
or is  this kind of talk no longer allowed after 3 years of being on this forum?

it sure used to be used to discuss Nintendo, so what gives now?

if i  have missed something then please expand on what the hell it is your talking about.
i no longer live on this forum and try to come here of all  old Nintendo forums for a quick fix here and there and this topic got me to come back to find out what is real and what is not.

sorry if i have repeated something discussed many pages back or somewhere  else that only people who live eat and breath this forum might see it.

now please, opinions and facts on this link would be great to hear.
thanks.

exactly my point, this is NEW. was just released today so  why  is everyone talking about locking?

this could be  huge for Nintendo and could be devistating for console online play  or even larger for nintendo if they can  somehow charge other consoles to use it. i have no idea what is going on with this but  if it's real then it could be huge.

They won't be able to charge others from doing it, what they are basically showing is, hey we can do it too.  Do I think they know how to do it pretty well now?  Ya, but then again I doubt they will go ahead and do it until they think they know it down to the pin.

It doesn't really tell me they will go online fully.  Maybe for some game experiments.

the reason I'm saying lock is because this exact same topic is in this thread and currently locked as well.

All nintendo did was renew their 64dd patent with a few new things. I don't see what the fuss is about, the hype over patents almost NEVER amount to anything.

Now if nintendo patented a special kind of optic WAFFLE IRON....maybe I'd get excited...

Chongman, it is obvious whatever mod locked the 1st post did not notice the date or really read the article.  in other words they were a bit trigger happy with their powers at hand.

anyway. what happened to all the people who used to be on here that had Nintendo facts bubbling out their ears and mouth?  fill us in  on what ya know on this!

Plus, we already have a thread on this in the DS forum I believe.

I believe that's the main reason why he locked it.  Nobody likes two of the same thread.

It's just a renewed patent for the 64DD. This is NOT NEWS, not at all.

It is saying that Nintendo have chosen to extend the patent of a "home video game system" and an "online gaming service" of some description. Companies usually do this, mainly to protect their intellectual property (any products that use the patented technology) and to earn royalties from other companies using their patented technology.

They weren't trigger happy at all. They were within their means to lock it, and they DID read it.

where is this thread in the DS forum. i have not found one matching this one at all.

if  there is one with  people actually discussing this  other then just complaining about something they are not sure about then by all means please post me in the right direction. considering this is not one console specific then  it  seems the general Nintendo area is  still best suited for this topic.
