This Week in Nintendo Downloads

There's no shooting your way out of downloads this week.

This week brings six new titles to the download services: one WiiWare title, one NES Virtual Console title, and a staggering four DSiWare tittles. Two new WiiWare demos round out a very busy week full of shooting, puzzles, unfortunate names, and gymnasts.

The only new WiiWare title this week is Spot the Differences!, from Sanuk Games. If you can't guess what this game is about then you probably can't read this sentence. What has traditionally been the collective title of the various "find what is different between these two pictures" games on Nintendo's download services is now the title of an actual game, thanks to Sanuk. You and three other people can determine distinct guinea pig characteristics for 500 Wii Points ($5).

There are two new WiiWare demos. First is LIT, from WayForward Technologies. Darkness has overcome Jake's school, and he needs to use light sources to safely traverse his own personal Nocturne of Scholastics.

If you ever wanted to be a globetrotting tractor our second WiiWare demo is for you. In Nordcurrent's Urbanix you play as a tractor, building cities "on Earth, at the North Pole, or on the moon." The failure to identify that the North Pole is still on Earth can be forgiven because as a tractor you get to shoo away squatters in your new town. Both demos are available for 0 Wii Points ($0).

This week features yet another Virtual Console title, in what has become a nice run for the oft-forgotten service. Unfortunately, this week's game is a poorly-titled NES horizontal shooter from Natsume. In S.C.A.T. you are a member of the Special Cybernetic Attack Team. The S.C.A.T. force is tasked with preventing the mass extinction of humanity at the hands of the Supreme Commander Vile Malmort, and his alien fleet. The winner is the one who doesn't die from laughter at hearing the other's name. Bad names and horizontal shooting are available for 500 Wii Points ($5).

DSiWare brings four titles to this week's releases. First off is the vertical shooter G. G Series Dark Spirits, from Genterprise Inc. The titular "Dark Spirts" are your four familiars, which fly around your ship and aid you by shooting at enemies. You can upgrade each of the distinct familiars by killing enemies and stealing their souls. Get familiar with your familiars for 200 Nintendo DSi Points ($2).

The second DSiWare title this week is Boom Boom Squaries, from Gamelion. The Squaries areā€¦ squares who are intent on exterminating the round and fluffy Furries. The objective of Boom Bom Squaries is to make the Squaries explode by causing chain reactions. Over 40 Challenge levels and 40 Classic levels are exploding now for 200 Nintendo DSi Points ($2).

The third DSiWare title this week is 505 Tangram. It's a game with 505 Tangram puzzles. In Tangram, players manipulate seven smaller shapes to match a larger shape they're presented with at the start of the puzzle. With 505 puzzles, 505 Tangram costs just under one point per puzzle: 500 Nintendo DSi Points ($5).

The final DSiWare title is Shawn Johnson Gymnastics, from the ever intrepid Zoo Games, Inc. Players take on the role of an aspiring champion gymnast, and guide their career all the way to World Championships. Stick the landing for 500 Nintendo DSi Points ($5).

For those wondering, this is basically catch-up week for North America as 5 of the games are already out in Europe (the only new one is Shawn Johnson Gymnastics).

I have heard pretty good things about Lit since its release a few years ago, so I will try the demo out to see if I like it enough to buy it.
