I think Nintendo decided to do this to make the Wii seem "relevant" at the moment. First, the 3DS is breaking records in sales and software in Japan, Europe, Australia, and the U.S.. Second, people are anticipating the arrival of the WiiU. Third, Nintendo wants to keep the Wii alive along side the WiiU. So, to provide 50 demos to the Wii "consumer", a word Nintendo has used, makes the Wii "relevant" from all the publicity the other consoles are receiving. This is Nintendo's way to address the Wii "consumer". Considering, I am a currently a Wii "consumer" I would like them to provide an improvement and expansion their Virtual Console and the WiiWare service.
