Guy wins a Wii
« on: April 01, 2007, 05:27:00 PM »
I saw this video on Go Nintendo and thought it was great, so I wanted to share it with you all!

The video is about this guy who won a Wii in one of those big prize arcade machines. Don't know if the video is real or not, but the reactions are PRICELESS (the video is NSFW though due to a lot of cursing).

BELIEVE IT!

Yeah, mute it to avoid wanting to punch people in the video.

I don't know if this is the same one, but those machines like that one where you have to pile blocks on top of each other are so rigged. I got to the top three times, but it's basically impossible to hit the last one. They probably allow it once they've made enough money, but it definitely isn't fair..

A Wii! The best prizes you can win in those sort of things over here are like, bags of lollies from the late 80's that have all melted and stuck together and those tiny little pool tables with the balls that get lost as soon as you open the box.

Well, digital cameras can also record footage. I'm sure that's what they brought. Either that or one of those new, small, HD (hard drive) camcorders.

all the prize machines, like crane machines and stuff are "rigged" in some way or are made to allow the owner to adjust how often the claw grips tight.  Those machines with the light blocks is no different.  The rigging is just as you said...it's a guarenteed way for the owner of the machine to make a profit.  It's a lot like the slot machines at a casino.  In a casino by most state laws, they have to pay back 92% or higher of the money that is stuck in them.  The only problem with chance machines is when it's your turn to win, there is still the human error and you could mess it up even though 20 times before your technique would have been good enough to win.

As for the video, I don't see why it can't be real.  The video wasn't started right from the beginning, and it could have been a cell phone video.

Supposedly, there have been things like iPods in similar machines.

I'd like to see more of the game they were playing and how it works, however. I used to be surprisingly good at that "stop the moving light" game and nailed the jackpot twice which won me a camera and something else I don't recall, but an N64 was one of the potential prizes.

Yeah, I've seen stuff like iPods, cameras, celphones, DVDs and even PS2 games.

As for the game itself, I saw it once. If I am not mistaken, the game works like this; In the middle is a grid of lights composed of small squares. If I am not mistaken, what you do is try and line up the squares in a line. If you manage to reach the top, you win and you pick your prize.

Of course, I may be wrong since I only saw it once.

How do you control it, though?

Do you press the button to stop the squares on the line or something?

If I am not mistaken, you press a button in order to stop the light square.

Like I said, I saw that a while ago and may be mistaken.

And I just realized, it usually costs a dollar or two to play these games. If the kid really got the Wii on his first try, he got it for a dollar O.O .

Yeah, I do tend to be good at these kinds of games.

Too bad I've never seen the one in this video anywhere...

We seem to have those are all over the place here.  I almost pushed the thing over at a Red Robin burger place, it pissed me off so bad one time.

There's a claw machine in my local shopping centre thats full of Nintendo cuddly toys! I so want one but I don't wanna look like a fool standing there for ages losing lol. But I have seen people win a couple of times.

Yeah that guy is so lucky. Damn, what a buzz he must have got when the Wii dropped. Hope it didn't damage it when it dropped.

Speaking of which, you know those machines which are full of round cases with cheap toys inside, that you put a  dollar into the slot and turn it to get a toy? I saw one with Animal Crossing characters.

The game machine used is called 'Stacker'. Here a more detailed video of a guy attempting to win:
