In case anyone's curious how BD could be 2nd in the top 10 and 10th in the combined list, as well as both ahead of and behind Lightning Returns:

Lightning Returns (PS3 + 360) > Bravely Default > Lightning Returns (PS3 or 360 alone).

Wii U sold more in its first three weeks, so I have my doubts that the PS4 will ever surpass it. Plus, I think the Wii U has more games that appeal to the Japanese audience, and that will likely continue.

You can't be serious. Wii U sold really well in most places for its first few weeks, and then it fell off the map. PS4 is in limited supply (still can't find any stock nearby, sold out online - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/playstation-4-ps4/playstation-4-ps4-hardware-console/pcmcat296300050017.c?id=pcmcat296300050017). Nintendo did a great job with supply in Japan, SONY did not.

Yes, Wii U has all of those games that appeal to the Japanese, like that one game in the top 20.

I honestly can't believe there is a supply cap that is make it to ~30,000 in Japan.  They are closer to there supplier and they wouldn't want to starve there home region after slighting them with a late launch.

I don't know, maybe they saw how great it was already doing in the US and decided not to chase the third place market and focus on the one that matters most, Sony might be HQ in Japan but their culture is very much world wide, Nintendo is a Japanese company first, Sony is just a multinational company that happens to be based in Japan.

I like how you post a link to an American retailer when once again, we're talking about Japan.  The home console market is dying over there and the PS4's launch lineup was terrible, making the supply constant argument pointless for that country.  Sony could have had a million PS4's ready for the Japanese launch and it'd still be selling what it is now.

It wasn't just the Wii U, but the Vita also was selling better in it's first 3 weeks then the PS4 in Japan as well, and yet that system also dropped like a rock in the coming weeks because of it's lack of games.  If a handheld system being the successor to the PSP which was popular in Japan did terrible after launch because of a crappy lineup, what makes you think the PS4, a home console system in Japan with a crappy lineup is going to do any better?

Good to see Bravely Default sell well.  It's the only game I've played since it came out and localizing the sequel was dependent on its sales.

I pointed to Best Buy to show that there is a shortage of PS4 consoles everywhere. To say that the PS4 won't catch up to the Wii U in Japan is just silly.

There have been conflicting reports over whether or not the PS4 is having supply problems in Japan, but considering the pitiful software sales so far, I don't yet believe it has supply issues in Japan. We'll see how the numbers keep going.

The PS4 is having supply issues world wide, what makes you think that Japan was given an infinite supply when the US and EU are still having supply issues? Every unit shipped to Japan is  a unit not shipped to the US, where it has been selling out since launch pretty much. I think they are getting production up to speed now but they are spread pretty thin as a company who is struggling just to keep their doors open so I can see them allocating resources very strategically at this point. Next year will be the real indicator.

Exactly my point and why I showed stock at Best Buy in the US. How are the software sales pitiful? It has 3 (non-Knack) games in the top 20, Wii U has one.

Because 35,000 is a really low number.  Especially considering the Delay and proximity to were PS4 are made.

You don't sell what was it 400,000 the first week and don't even plan on continue a 10% supply rate of that per week.

you do if they weren't expecting to sell all 400,000 the first week, maybe that was the months allocation and they just sold out too fast and need to reallocate?

DKC seems to drop by about 30% each week.

You really get an idea of how bad the Wii U is selling when you look at the sales of Pokémon, Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter on the 3DS and realize that the total sales for those individual games is more than twice the sales of the Wii U.  It would be impossible to recreate those sales figures on the Wii U and that more than anything is why third parties are staying away from it.  Any Wii U game selling 1 million copies in Japan would be effectively impossible and these days 1 million doesn't make up your budget.

There was only 1 (one) million selling game in Japan on non-Nintendo home console last gen. One of them Final Fantasy games.

GTAV is kinda getting close to million though...

LOL guess you never been to Japan but they are very pro-Japanese and Amazon is an American retailer.

The truth is the top 5 retailers in Japan have been out of PS4 since launch and only getting a small handful of units--not sure if sony bothered sending out more since the Limited Edition MGS one launches this week.

The Mario Party for 3DS takes the top spot as it is followed by many new releases such as Samurai Warriors 4 and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. The much derided Retro Game Challenge 3 is in the 11th spot while Sega's Hero Bank at 16th picked the wrong week to be released.

The Wii U sold better but had no games in the top 20?  Weird.

Go, go, Kirby Triple Deluxe! 248,577 copies to go and 5% of 3DS owners in Japan will have bought this game. Got to stay ahead of PS4 sales.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

That's a lot of people paying full price for a 2 hour game. Someone on IGN beat Ground Zeroes in under 10 minutes.
