I hope Metroid other M does better than Prime games when it comes out, it has to by default right?
One would think, but the Metroid Prime Trilogy sold pretty poorly. Metroid has never been as popular as most other Nintendo franchises, and having two on Wii already might be enough for everyone. Plus, I thought first-person games had more appeal than third-person, and Other M looks kind of weird anyway.

So, given the popularity of the series, the strange title, and weird gameplay, I don't think it will sell more than Prime 3 (1.5 million?). But I can still hope!

The Metroid Prime series did not sell poorly, at all. The first one sold 2 million copies, the third one sold 1.31 million. That is pretty damn good.

There hasn't been two actual games. There has been one new game on the Wii (Metroid Prime 3: Corruption). The other three were ports (Metroid Prime Trilogy and the Japanese-only New Play Control! Metroid Prime and New Play Control! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes). The only region I think Metroid: Other M could do better in is Japan.

I didn't say the Metrod Prime series sold poorly, I said the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii sold poorly.

I thought you were talking about the trilogy, not the game. You have to remember that it was also only a limited-printing, they didn't even make that many copies.

Now that you mention it, I do recall hearing something about a limited production run, but I thought that was for the special edition. Was it planned to have a limited run, like, before release, or was it discontinued due to low sales like ExciteBots? Either way, I remember stores were marking it down not long after it released to get rid of unsold stock.

There was no regular edition, in this case every copy was marked as "Collector's Edition". I think RFN even speculated that the reason they did this was so people wouldn't be surprised that it had a limited run. Would it eventually have had a regular run? I don't know.

Actually, for a core Nintendo franchise sales for the Prime series were pretty bad. Plus you just pointed out how the original MP sold 2 million, yet MP3 sold 1.3 million, so its pretty disappointing because it means the series went into a decline. Had MP3 sold 3 or more millions then it would have had some growth over the previous incarnations, but it actually shrunk. So that's not very good results.

I'm glad that Prime 1 sold more than Prime 3 because Prime 3 was slipping away from the Metroid fundamentals and adding too much story and guidance and a segmented world (plus the items were pretty lame). It was a decent game but not up to Prime 1's standard.

Wow, nice way to completely fail at basic logic.  Yes, Prime 3 sold less then Prime 1, but what comes between 1 and 3.  Oh yeah, a 2, a f*cking 2 which is what all of you Metroid Prime 3 complainers always forget about.  In reality, Metroid Prime 3 sold better then Prime 2 which means Prime 3 actually helped grow the series again.

Not to mention Prime 3 is the 4th best selling Metroid game behind only Prime 1, Metroid 1 and Metroid 2.  So I'd imagine Nintendo is quite pleased with it's numbers since it did better then most of the other Metroid games including Super Metroid which is still regarded as the holy grail by Metroid fanboys.

Echoes is actually the only one I never played, but I have Metroid Trilogy so I have it and will try it one of these days. I guess one of the reasons no one cared is because it came out so soon after MP1.

Echoes is the only one I did not play a second time. But I remember the bosses being so much cooler than part 1 and 3.  Also there is an awesome behind the scenes look at the folkd creating Other M in the Other M thread. There is new footage and everything! Someone look at it!

Wow, Dance on Broadway jumped from 6th to 2nd, Ubisoft really does have a hit franchise on their hands. Nice to see a third party with a successful IP on the Wii and not just a particular title, even if I have a feeling we will see a third release in the series too soon.

I don't know if I would consider Just Dance and Dance on Broadway to be part of the same series. Same genre, yes; same series, maybe. Regardless, Just Dance 2 is coming out in October.

Do they play the same? That's an honest question as I don't know due to the fact that there are zero reviews out there for this game (like none). I assumed they did, and saw Dance on Broadway to be a spin off of the series in the way that the band exclusive Guitar Hero/Rock Band releases are.

I am not sure, most of the PR videos tend to concentrate on the people playing the game rather than the gameplay.

Not too surprising: over the past two years the PS3 has seen more major releases in Japan than the Wii.  The fact that the Wii is still (narrowly) beating the PS3 in hardware sales is probably exclusively due to Nintendo's own products, but they don't put out enough of those to rival all the third-parties combined.  There's a reason why Iwata's getting on the "We <3 third-parties" bandwagon.

And there is absolutely no reason for him to do it. It's like he's a father trying to get a kid (third parties) to behave with a lollipop (money hats).

The PS3 may have more titles in the Top 100, but I wager the Wii has sold more games over all. Its not the quantity of titles that matters so much as the amount of sales the titles get. That said, most of those PS3 games could have their sales totals combined together and would get beat out by New Super Mario Bros. The Wii has fewer titles, yes, but the titles it does have tend to be multi-million sellers.
is your sanity...

I disagree.  Nintendo alone simply can not build and maintain momentum for two separate hardware platforms and two digital platforms all on its own, and it shows.  Leaving aside the matter that Nintendo's smaller in size than some third-parties, there's also the fact that Nintendo is simply not geared towards making some games which appeal to large segments of the population, so it's best for them to court third-parties to fill in both of these weaknesses.  There's zero point in cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.
