Great news if true.  Even if it's just a rush job port I won't mind as long as it's at least semi-technically competent.  I don't read French; any word on a release date (more specific than the 2008 I saw in the link)?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

If this is true, then Capcom is definitely getting back in the game.

"Long dreamed by gamers, claimed in numerous rumors, Okami is finally confirmed on Wii. Slated for release in 2008, it is evidently based on the respectable Playstation 2 version that everyone is already familiar with, and lets you paint lines with the help of the Wiimote. A rumor originating with Capcom, and which is sure to charm Wii owners lacking in big-name titles."

(pant pant) phew! I'm sorry, that's the best I can do, and I don't think it's very good I apologize to any francophone who happens to come along and see my butchering of his/her language!

EDIT: Here's the other article, with my meager translation. AGAIN I'M SORRY OH PLEASE FORGIVE ME GAHHHHH....

"Despite its innovative universe and gameplay, Okami hasn't encountered the sales success that Capcom hoped of it on Sony's console. Probably in order to amortize its investment and to take advantage of its install base, Capcom announces the next outing of Okami on Wii. The question everyone is asking is obviously, who is going to take over development now that the original developer, Clover Studios, has closed its doors."

If this happens it will be a must buy game for me.  Hopefully it will add new content...perhaps an extra dungeon or side quest.

I never played this game, but a friend loved it, and I know he would buy it again, and I would buy it for the first time.

Well, the second and first articles (at least, if I'm understanding them correctly), seem to contradict themselves a bit. The first makes it sounds like it may be a port, while the second uses the term "prochain sortie," which I took to mean, "next outing," which could mean a sequel. Until someone comes in with better command of French, I'm not sure!

Who on the board is a native French speaker?!

The wording in the first link could also mean that the game is "based off the franchise that is on PS2," so the wording could ultimately mean port or sequel...I'm just going to go with port, though, because this is Capcom...

Part of me hopes this isn't true, as Okami for ps2 is sitting sealed on my shelf, and you all know I'll buy it for Wii if it comes out and play it there.

Hurray for wasting money!

Also, Please post if you find a source that is better than the one there.  Capcom did do their talk today, so this very well might be true.  Let's keep looking for a real source.

While I will probably buy an Okami Wii Version, I would love to see a port of God Hand, but that will never happen because Okami at least had the media raving about it while God Hand did not have anyone really.

You know a port is better than nothing.  I wonder how many ports would have to better than expected before companies start making original titles for the Wii.

I hope that every company that releases a sequel, port, or original title for the Wii this holiday season rake in the money, so that the 3rd parties that have supported the Wii really get a boost in sales.

I know I am buying Raving Rabbids 2 and Call of Duty Heroes 2.  I am also thinking about getting Guilty Gear.

It is.
Their correspondent called them back from London to tell them the news, and one of the news was that Okami is coming to Wii.

I'm still in the doubt about this...but that's just because I have it for the PS2, I haven't played it yet, and if this is true I will have to trade it in for the Wii version...damn.

I claim no mastery of Portuguese, but its similar to Spanish. Here's what I got.

From what I got, Okami for the Wii, Lost Planet for the PS3, and Bionic Commando "is walking to consoles of new generation.."

Also, Street Fighter 4 teaser. Seeing as how the European gaming press got wind of Nights before the American press did, This is shaping up to be the real deal. Plus, why would a correspondent list one piece of confirmed news, and the rest fanboy wet dreams?

I'll attempt some translation (keep in mind I'm French but I'm not the best when it comes to translating!).

"A long-time players' fantasy, then rumored several times, Okami has been confirmed on the Wii.
Slated for an early 2008 release, it is, of course, based on the PS2 version that everyone already knows, and will allow you to use the paint brush with the Wiimote. A rumor originating from Capcom that will cheer up Wii's owners lacking killer apps right now."

Sounds weird though because the Clover team doesn't exist anymore... Are we getting a cheap and lazy port once again?!

A sequel wouldn't really work with Okami, it's basically a collection of japanese mythology. The story ends where it does. What I'd be worried about is a REALLY sloppy port that would have analog stick control for the paintbrush.

I doubt they'll keep the pressure sensitive paint button since the Wii has no such thing but I don't think there was ever a situation where you needed it.

But I did link to this thread in the rumor thread, cause I know Okami has been rumored and denied by Capcom for quite some time.
If true, its about time they came to their senses. Now they need to bring Commando over to WiiWare, and all will be forgiven for now.

I'll definitely be buying this. I've heard nothing but good things about it and it would be too awesome if an original PS2 game were to sell more when ported to a Nintendo system instead of the other way around.

And yes, I despise the PS2 controller with a passion...

...Is this official? Seriously, if Okami was truly confirmed everyone that was at the event would've been talking about and Capcom would've released a press release by now.

My question is, WHY is Capcom so redudant on announcing the Okami port? I mean, the RE 4 rumors surfaced they answered right away. Yet when the Okami rumors surfaced they kept denying it and now that its been "confirmed" they haven't come out and made a big deal about it.

Doesn't anyone find this weird?

I'll definitely be buying this. I've heard nothing but good things about it and it would be too awesome if an original PS2 game were to sell more when ported to a Nintendo system instead of the other way around.

I don't know, Okami never appealed to me. It just looked like one of those games people OVERHYPE like crazy.

I'll try the Wii version if its truly coming to the system but I am not expecting the masterpiece people make it out to be.

Pap,

Everyone here at NWR finds it a little weird I believe.  It's strange that all these European places are running it and Capcom hasn't spammed out a press release yet.  I'm remaining skeptical and still looking for the ultimate confirmation.

I'm pretty sold.  I just have to look at Capcom's porting history to see that this was almost inevitable.

I do have an email out to Capcom's PR crew for a comment.  I'll post the response when/if I get it.

Good to know that I am not the only one skeptical about this. I mean, if its true that Okami was confirmed at their conference why hasn't anyone outside of Europe reported on it? Everyone talked about Street Fighter 4, Lost Planet PS3, Apollo Justice, Wii Love Golf and other stuff, yet Okami is absent from that list and everyone has confirmed it...except Capcom.

Like I said, when the RE 4 rumors surfaced weeks later CAPCOM came out and confirmed it. But they have been denying the existence of Okami Wii for a year now and now that its been "confirmed" Capcom has stayed quiet.

I'm not saying that it isn't happening, just saying that for a major Wii game that just been confirmed everyone except the fanboys and the Europeans has been quiet about it...Its just weird.

Long story short, don't get too excited people. But its seems too late now...

I did some more research and supposedly Capcom WAS going to drop an Okami megaton tomorrow, but some people leaked the news hence why some sites claim that Okami Wii has been confirmed.

That would explain why Capcom has stayed quiet while everyone is running around with the news. In any case, I think its wise to wait and see.

Well the Europeans are big on it because it happened in London.  The big sites are probably waiting either under embargo or are just sort of sitting on their hands, waiting for a press release.  Or, like us, feel cautious about it.

This makes me very glad.

I hope they put some effort in the port, but I doubt it will happen, I'll buy it anyway.

Yes! I've been waiting forever for this kind of announcement.
I never owned a PS2, so I was really hoping for Okami to be ported to Wii.

Now we just need to persuade Kojima to put Metal Gear Solid 3 on Wii, and I'll have no more desire to purchase a PS2.
I mean, he's gotta pay Nintendo back for putting Snake in Brawl somehow, right?

Nice, now it's officially official!

My only close friend with a PS2 (I know, hard to believe, right?) only owns sports games and the Guitar Hero games, so I never even had a chance to play Okami, or any PS2 exclusive game for that matter (except Guitar Hero).

Though I haven't yet played Daxter on PSP, I've heard from several people that it was a more than competent game. I'm comfortable with them handling God of War on PSP and I'm not worried at all that their handling the Okami port to Wii. The port should be excellent and I'm looking forward to getting it on Wii. It was difficult waiting for a port. I'm just glad it's official.
