THQ is turning their back on their legacy (Toy HeadQuarters) and stopped doing their licensed "kiddy" games. So if anything they grow distant from Nintendo.

Level 5 -- good point. They even have publishing agreements with Layton. And Inazuma Eleven is still big

N-Space -- these guys are just contractors, they will do what they're said by publisher, be it Activison or Square. Also they're pretty always big on nintendo handhelds mostly. They got themselves a niche of goto guys for big publisher to outsource handheld ports and doing okay for themselves i think. Nothing is really changed for them.
And again -- they're mostly handheld guys, so Wii U will do nothing for them.

Silicon Knights -- dead

Next Level Games, Monster Games -- nothing is really changed, they're already more or less second party.

Tecmo Koei -- they get closer with Nintendo with recent DoA, NG, Fatal Frame and Nobunaga releases, but actually mutual dependency and Nintendo needs them just as much.

Namco is going to slowly migrate their main profit source (all these countless anime licensed games) from PSP to 3DS. Smash Bros and Tekken with some occasional Tales of is probably all we we get.

Xseed and Atlus are super niche publishers. Their games are for dedicated audience who might have find no problem buying a console or handheld for just one game or super collector edition for 200$. They are very platform agnostic.

With 3DS dominating the japanese market for years to come and WiiU seemingly coming in force these holidays -- overall Nintendo grip on japanese third parties will be tightened. But this won't do much for western publishers who are waiting it out and are more inclined to jump on next xbox. But 3ds is a MUCH bigger factor here, so wiiu won't change much.

There are two western publishers who will be get more dependant on nintendo directly because of Wii U, though
1. Activision -- Skylanders are SUPER HOT and NFC on gamepad seems to be tailored for that kind of physical/videogame promotion. Wii was the leading platform for Skylanders (both in development phase and in sales) and that paid off in diamond spades. Also, BLOPS on Wii U launch will do some decent numbers (at least a million is a lock).
2. Ubisoft. They seem to found a new console to dump their ZZZ-games on -- they have like 10+ of their usual shovelware ready to launch. Just Dance, Rabbids, Assasin Creed should do fine. Rayman will do okay and will get ported to everything under the sun half a year later.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Launch Window Games Revealed

There are only two first-party games available day one. They are Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U.
I can take half of it and i will be happy.

By the way calling this period "launch window" is stretching it really far. It's like half a year!

By the time that window will be over, the 2013 E3 will be upon us already. That's how long it is.

Wasn't it confirmed that the Pro Control is also compatible?
Well, in the US presentation developer used Wii U pro controller.

Or you mean Wii Classic Pro?

By the way, i literally made a fist pump and said yes out loud when they said they are keeping IR pointing in.

You're awesome, Treyarch.

Still not much interested in CoD but at least i won't refuse it outright if it only had dual analog controls.

Actually Bayonetta sold quite well for Platinum Games, it's in the million+ club.
I did my part. In fact i bought xbox just so i can play this game (and RDR, and Mortal Kombat).

But it's not that clear cut.

SEGA games nowadays have a bad habit of getting slashed in price for like 70% in mere months. So million or not, they could still not get enough profits from it.

It's a shame it took more than a year for this game to be released in it's home region.

Well, at least we're getting superior version both in terms of looks AND controls (i freaking love me some twin stick shoot'em'ups).

Those dudes left Capcom presumably so they would have complete freedom over their games.
Creatively, i don't think Miyamoto's or Sakurai's views would clash with any of Platinum's guys' visions. They're pretty on the same wave or at least it looks that way for me.

Financially, though... Nintendo occasionally gets to be pretty cynical in terms of sequelisation, even more so than Capcom ever did. You might have some wiggle room though, like Sakurai who fed up with sequels at HAL left to do Meteos and Kid Icarus. Sakurai is a very special case though, with him being so close personally with NCL president.

Unless Platinum Games specifically requests to be part of Nintendo
Well, Kamiya DID beg to develop Star Fox a few years ago...

Pretty smart thinking from Reggie here.

I noticed how people from America note all the time how their consoles are turning into netflix machines more and more. And Wii had ENOURMOUS attach rate for Netflix app (something about of 30% [?] of entire netflix customer base were for Wii consoles, which is astonishing).

Acute business decision, but of course we don't have any streaming solutions in here so it would touch me personally.

I would appreciated if console price for Europe region was lower because it won't have that TVii service though, but alas...

White/Basic = $250
Black/Premium = $300
Premium doesn't do much for me.
32 Gb? When i have a spare 1Tb USB hard drive laying around?
Nintendo Network Premium program? How's that different from club nintendo rewards we already have? At first i thought it's gonna be like discount for DD titles, but no -- you just get points for buying games that you waste on MORE games.
Additonal plastic stuff? I'd pay to get rid of that.
250 Euro package -- here i come.
It's a shame that there are no wiimote+ (which means you can kills support for IR aiming in shooters goodbye) and sensor bar in any package. I wanted to keep my old wii on my old CRT in other room.
I can get cheapo third party sensor bar for that i guess...

I expect the amount of memory taken by OS to shrink with time as they optimize it.
Just like they unlocked one core on 3ds last year.

So, if 1gb is useable, then 1.5gb on the retail system? 512mb is a lot for the OS, but I wouldn't be surprised if they planned it so Netflix is streaming on the TV while junior plays New Super Mario on the tablet.
Considering how much resources your OS and API eat up on your PCs, it's really not that much.

Also about wii u reusing broadway processors as in decade old tech... And it's not really that bad.

How about your own PC using 30+ year old architecture (IBM PC was released in 1981)?

And processor in your PC using 40+  year old architecture (x86 started in 1978)?

And PCs are not reusing that decades old tech because it's perfect the way it is. Hell no. That policy of dragging 70s tech into new future caused lots and lots of problems starting from "problem 2000"  and your Windows Vista losing 1Gb of your 4Gb memory.

But they keep it because PC have no generations when each time they have the opportunity to start from a clean slate. They have to keep BC at all times, not just between generations.

And so they add things like PCI, AGP, southern bridge -- all these patches to keep it relevant to times. And it just piles on and on. Overhead if enourmous.

And that's just hardware. Software legacy cost is even greater and cripples tech inside your PC even more.

One dumb Q: why does the "bubble" say "9/10"?
Yeah, came to ask this.
My version is that's a joke on game review ratings.
Same as "bubble" that nintendo gamers are enclosing themselves in.

Also, i wonder if dubstep in the beginning is ironic too...

So the graphics in this one will be like a newer PC edition, right?

Or it will be like original MSX style?

I am still waiting for Retro City Rampage and so might also get this.

As a result, that year they were having some difficulty selecting a Wii game of the year. Brad then brought up Shattered Memories as a potential candidate (none of the other guys had played it). They took a quick audio break so that Brad could tell them the twist at the end (without spoiling it for the audience). Based on that alone they all agreed that Shattered Memories was the Wii game of the year, lol.
This blows.
And here i thought these guys had a long and constructive debates between choosing NSMBWii or SH:SM but no, most of them didn't even played their own GOTY...
Shame on you, GB.

Beat it yesterday.
Can't really play this kind of games with original audio (too intense) so i listened to your podcasts instead while playing.
Good, thought provoking story.
I started a new game right after the ending and answered all answers in the first test "wrong" to get sexy cop Cybil i saw in Giant Bomb's GOTY 2009 video, but she was almost the same (slightly different, but mostly the same) D:
Also i found a sign with a list of telephone numbers right in the beginning, before you unlock the phone. I wrote them down and then i tried calling them, they were just automated messages, few of them didn't work and only one from what i see had a hint to where the plot is going.
Speaking of telephone numbers. I got stuck on a puzzle on a with swans and two statues and "555" written nearby, which threw me off -- i thought you're supposed to make 555 with the shadows from figurines and wasted half an hour on it i think. Had to look it up on gamefaqs.
Chase sequences... You really get the feeling minimal game design in those is very deliberate, and the ending confirms it, but i think they really should have added more diversity to it.
Have to note that graphics looks very good, wii or not. Just a few weeks back i got xbox and Red Dead Redemption and was disappointed how dated models look there. Coming after that and booting this game i was surprised that detail is pretty much the same, really nice job. Add dynamic lightning from your flashlight and you get generally good looking game regardless of hardware.
Overall, fantastic game, great story, good presentation, good voice-acting, gameplay is flawed but i can deal with it.

It's sort of awesome to be the guy amongst your friends who gets all the special stationery and shares it with them.
It's especially awesome when you realise that this stationery came from japanese or american regioned 3ds's. 6 degrees of separation in effect.

My favorite part of the game was just flying over the island, I always wished I could get rid of the 5 minute time limit though and explore an unlimited time.
A week ago, i discovered this mini game, man, i didn't even knew what i was missing all that time.
Love it, it's so relaxing.
And it just comes together so nicely when you fly over places you played on before -- "hey, this is a bowling hall", "hey this is archer's lane!".
People often disregard "wii line" stuff for being too sterile and character less, but this was just brilliant in my opinion.

Nintendo support even have a special adapter that is somehow connects to new wii models and brings gc ports back because they use gc gamepads for thoubleshooting.

First post, great work everyone.
I've been checking your older podcasts for kicks, and probably this one was the most hilarious so far.
It starts with everyone saying: "DO NOT preorder Wii" and ends with doubts if "you're the inspiration" from Chicago is a good choice for Elite Beat Agents.
