>I'd guess that "Fred" was probably just having a bad day, and was tired of trying to explain to people how the older Super GameBoy wasn't designed to play not-yet-invented GameBoy Color products, even though "Yeah but my TV can display a whole bunch of colors. Why can't it play the GBC? The cartrige fits in the slot. It should work but it doesn't. Why can't you fix it? You suck."

I might go for that idea... Except for the time frame this happened in...
See, I had my little run-in with "Fred" when the Game Boy Player (GCN) was released.  I called wanting to know if there was any way to get the special Super Game Boy borders to show up when running them on the Game Boy Player (Since the GBPlayer has boarders, I thought there was a chance something was programmed in).  So, I'm guessing Fred hadn't gotten many calls that particular day (or year...) about playing GBC games on the Super Game Boy.

Although, Apparently, he's worked for NoA for 15+ years, so maybe over the years, he's gotten quite a few phone calls about it...

>the Hori guy (...) said that they were actually trying to get it released in the US by the end of the year..

Hmm... Interesting.  I hope so... I wouldn't mind picking up another one...

>You know there's no reason for an NOA guy to lie to you. He could be mistaken but I doubt he was "pulling your leg."

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean that badly.  I love Nintendo's customer service reps* on their 800# and their e-mail.  While they may not always have the best answers, they're always friendly and usually helpful.

*There is one exception to this, and that was a guy at the 800# who's name was "Fred".  He was an asshat.  He called me a liar and said that you cannot play the DX version of Link's Awakening on the Super Game Boy.  When I know for certian you can.  Unfortunatly, I had just moved into my apartment and didn't have all my equiptment with me at the time, so I wasn't able to hook it up right then (not that I have a video phone or such...)  But sure enough, I checked it out as soon as I got my stuff together and, guess what, it worked.  This guy really ticked me off...  He was all "I've worked for Nintendo for 15 years sir and 'The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakeing DX' is ONLY for the Game Boy Color and will not work on the Super Game Boy.".  Yes, it does.

I thought the Hori pad was an offically licensed third party product?

I had a strange problem with my Gamecube the other day (a completly "blank" save file on one of my memory cards... No name, date or anything except that it said it took up eight blocks of memory... weird, eh?) so I called NoA's 1.800 number to see if they had any ideas what caused it.

Anyway, the gentleman and I were talking about what all I used on my Game Cube and he had me check all of my memory cards and controllers to make sure they were "official" products.  Which they are.  Except for one.  I mentioned that I had the Hori Digitial Controller.  The gentleman I spoke with asked if I had imported that and I said yes.  He said (not exact quotes here...) "Okay, because I don't think that has been released here yet."  "Yet?" I asked.  He replied, telling me that he thinks it's going to be released here in the states next month...

Anyone heard of this?  Or was this guy just pulling my leg?

For some reason I was thinking the DS already had a motion sensor built in...

I seem to vaguely remember something where someone was talking about the idea of someone watching TV with their Game Boy and stuff happening on the TV show could effect stuff happening in their game...  But I could just be making this up...

It'd be cool if you could raise your Nintendog to fight other people's Nintendogs wirelessly.  Fight and kill.

Does anyone know the *time* of the conference?

Why yes, yes... The links to the various threads around the net were previously posted here at the PGC forums a little more than a day before this article showed up...

Check this thread (http://www.planetgamecube.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=32&threadid=10483) if you're looking for some direct links to many of the crazy threads showing up around the net...

Nintendo Gaming / Ummm... DS + Warppipe Crew = ????
« on: September 27, 2004, 05:08:31 PM »
I've been peeking around on the net and there's some rumors about what's going on with the crew that developed the Warppipe software for the PC.

For those who don't know, Warppipe was a great program written (as freeware) that one could run on his/her PC, connect his/her GCN to the PC and plan "LAN-Only" games over the internet - thus making the GCN "online"... (No debates about GCN/online and such, please...)

Well... Long story short, check out this thread (http://forums.warppipe.com/viewtopic.php?t=11400&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 ).  I think that pretty much sums it all up.. It's an interesting read, to say the least...

Any thoughts?

TalkBack / RE: The Minish Cap Launching with Gold SP in Europe
« on: September 27, 2004, 04:43:09 PM »
I'm a huge Zelda fan... I even own two of the CD-i Games...  Soul Caliber II, LoZ (Original) on the NES, GBA, and twice on the GCN (Animal Crossing and Z:CE)... I can play any Zelda game at any time (I have all the systems hooked up and ready to go) *including* the GBA version of Four Swords (I own two copies of the cart)...  Big Zelda fan..

When I first heard about this particular GBA, I was excited and planned on getting one imported... and I *just* bought my NES Classic GBASP... And I've already got plans to get my DS on launch day...  I had to have this GBA because it was Zelda...

But it's just... bleh...

the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work

What would the effect on the potential market value of this CTR project be on S/E if they were already planning on making a 3D remake of CT?

You know, I'd like to throw another thing to consider in all of this...

If S/E had something like a remake of CT in 3D or sometime in the future decided to do it, they'd have all kinds of potential for legal battles because of the folks who started working on this CTR project.

Just like OoT2D (*drool*)... if Nintendo decided, down the road, a 2D version of OoT with LttP graphics would be a good project, well, don't you know, someone already started it...

That's another reason why companies have to crack down on fan-made games, even if they aren't for profit or such... Fan-made games limit potential ideas and storylines in future games because the various companies have to look out for those who will try to claim "Hey, that was my idea!  You stole it!  Give me free money!"....

The only thing I've ever bought from Intec was some metal GBA game cases...  I'm usually not big on third party accessories, although I do think Pelican makes a great product (when there's no offical product near by)...   Anyone have any other third party accessory opinions?

You know, the legal issues on porting Goldeneye probably wouldn't be that bad.  (If I'm correct...) Nintendo owns the code and EA owns the lisence...  all Nintendo would have to do is work with EA to reporgram it for the DS and 16 players... I'd think.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Gaming & Touch Screen - My experiences so far
« on: August 11, 2004, 05:59:31 AM »
You know, ya don't have to live in Japan to experience some touch screen gaming goodness before the DS comes out.  Go to some pizza places, truckstops, restraunts, movie theatres and (for those 21 years or older) bars and look for something called a "MegaTouch".  These awesome little machines come in many different shapes, color and styles are, in my humble opinion, are the best things to happen to planet earth in a long time.

Mega Touch machines typically have collections of 50+ games on them, ranging from card games, word games, puzzle games, strategy games and sports games.  And while some of these game could be played with a cursor (via joystick, + pad or mouse) most games just wouldn't work or just wouldn't be as fun.

Anywhoo, I highly reccomend going out and playing one of these before making any decisions on touch screen gaming. It'll make quite the impression on you.
