Men in Black (the original)

This movie holds up amazingly well. The writing for Smith and Jones is really top-notch, and the effects are great because, like Jurassic Park, the filmmakers utilize convincing animatronic characters and only use CGI when absolutely necessary. Also features Rip Torn prominently: "We're not hosting an intergalactic kegger."
If you can track down the Cartoon its a hoot.

Just about to binge on movies again:

Yesterday - The Grand Budapest Hotel. I've never seen a Wes Anderson movie, but i did thoroughly enjoy this. He has a very unique style.

Today - The Zero Theorem. I'm not sure what to make of this, but i'll go anyway. The trailer has me interested enough to want to see it, but without a reason why. Maybe because its got Christoph Waltz in the lead role?

Tomorrow - Under The Skin. Scarlett Johannsen playing a humanoid alien who abducts people and takes them back to her house? Colour me interested.

Some point next week - Need for Speed. Based on the trailers, i'd rather have Burnout Paradise as a movie than this.

In a Porn or that one movie with the female seductress alien that got a couple and I think was a horror and names escapes way or something more Outer Limit/Twilight Zonish or The Host.

The Walking Dead - sad/10.

I haven't watched it yet, but is that a good sad, like you lost a favorite character or touching moments almost made you cry?
Or a bad sad, like pathetic nonsensical story line that ultimately led to nothing but time wasted for all involved?

Edit: I just realized that this is the movie thread.... accident, or is there a sad movie by the same name as the show?

Edit 2: where did the baby go!? Did I miss something? Because she only killed her younger sister, but they left at the end with no baby. Where did the baby go?

Snowpiercer 10/10

Now I could write an elegant piece describing the multitude of reasons why I loved this movie so much, but I'd rather be concise and say, after I watched this movie, if I hadn't already made plans to go out, I would have immediately watched it again. It's that good.

Need for Speed - I would have enjoyed this film if this was Burnout Paradise, and more actively took use of the IP ridiculous crashes and destructions!!!!!111 than this.

The Muppets - I quite enjoyed it, the songs were really a lot of fun.

Old Boy (Spike Lee Remake)
It was pretty good, but I knew what was happening from the start as I've seen the original. The weirdest part for me was watching Nick Fury slap Scarlet Witch on the ass while she was bent over a chair with her pants down.

Avengers 2 is going to be even weirder after watching Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver play husband and wife in Godzilla. and strangely appropriate for those that know about their Ultimate storyline.... :/

Contracted ....

This is a random movie I started playing on Netflix because... well, why not.
I'm gonna go ahead and spoil it for you because you don't want to watch it anyway... and if you do, well, you're sick and twisted and you are only watching it to be grossed out.

It's about some lesbian girl who is roofied by some guy at a party a and coerced into having unprotected sex. Opening shot of the movie implies that the guy is humping a corpse at the morgue, but that isn't entirely clear from how it was shot. Anyway, the next day the girl that was raped refuses to admit to herself that she had sex with a guy, and to top it off she starts to get sick starting with excessive bleeding down there, a veiney rash thing, chills & flu like symptoms (quick onset of super AIDS was my first thought). So like anyone without good benefits, she goes to a local clinic to get checked out. Dr. doesn't diagnose anything as he never checked her down there, so she leaves.
Next day her eye was blood shot red... but not just the whites the whole damn eye. Long story short, this chick was fucked. blah blah blah-hidden text-blah blah blah

Who wouldn't make out with this girl?

tl;dr
Girl has unprotected sex, contracts some sort of disease, has some rather gross symptoms.
It seemed really creepy and unnerving up till that 2nd doctors visit when it decided to turn full on stupid. Why is it that most horror movies never know how to end properly?

what could have been a good "sex scare" & "use a condom" movie fell apart in the 2nd act

That was my first thought but the cost of living in the U.K is so high I'd probably have to kill a few others to afford doing it and that could cause another Jack the Ripper type situation and I don't need that kind of heat right now. I've still got all these Komodo Dragons I need to offload yet not to mention a "lost" shipment of Armeni neckties about to arrive and I just don't see how I could reasonably pull off such a U.K operation with my usual care and finesse with these other ongoing projects.

They just got theaters in my Area so yay if I watched more movies it may be worth it.

Looking at it again.  You really could only take advantage of this if you are Single with a lot of time.  I rather have a plan were I could get  my family tickets to about 2 shows a month for the same price.

JFK - 4 Stars (Must see)

Woah! I watched this last night and I'm still thinking about and puzzling over this whole thing. I don't normally go in for conspiracy theories. I know a couple people who are into these things like the U.S government being behind 9/11 or how stone masons influenced history or some such things. Probably a decade ago, FOX ran a special about how the moon landing was believed to be faked and the evidence for it. But then, they ran another special soo after of people refuting the evidence of the conspiracy theorists and that evidence was much greater and superior in my mind that I dismissed the conspiracy of it being faked. From this and other examples, I'm a pretty big skeptic when it comes to believing in conspiracy stuff. As such, I've never paid much attention to the JFK assassination conspiracies. But man, after watching this, I have reasonable doubt that Oswald was alone.

The movie is an account of Jim Garrison, a district attoney in New Orleans, who starts looking into the JFK findings after a conversation he has with a senator brings up a troubling idea about it. This leads him and his firm to start their investigation into the event as they pick through evidence and witnesses and find more questions and odd happenings with those involved. At one point, Garrison tells his team they are through the looking glass and you definitily get the sense that you are falling into the rabbit hole with them as the questions and examination of the evidence begins to pile on leading into different directions. I watched the director's cut version which was almost the 3 and half hours long but there were only a couple moments where I glanced at the time on DVD player. The movie keeps you engrossed and is very well paced that time flies by.

Despite approaching the movie with skepticism for things presented, I had to admit by the end that there were some very good questions and arguments presented that leave me with doubt about it being Oswald only. I'm not sure there are any good counterarguments for some of them or not. I'm still not that highly invested to start searching more into it but I'd be willing to consider them and hear them. Regardless, the movie does a fantastic job in really going through and highlighting a lot of possible theories and ideas and just explaining the whole murky situation and making it clear. The answer as to why it happened given by Mr. X certainly feels like it has a lot of truth to it. It's interesting to see just how Kennedy was so dispised by a lot of people. Watching shows like Mad Men, he comes off as a revered figure and for many he was but he also had a lot of bitter detractors.

Even if the film is wrong or nothing is ever fully solved about the situation in the future, I do applaud the film for bringing up and asking so many questions on things about the event that most other shows or media never seem to bring up or acknowledge about it. There's usually two sides to every story so its interesting to see for once what the other side on this story entails and is made up of. Technically, the film is great. Great editing, great use of interspersed black and white shots, the score is well done and top notch directing to keep everything straight and well explained and propelling the story forward. The only thing that didn't work for me was the bits of Garrison and how this quest for answers affected his family. They were never shown that much to be invested in them and are far less interesting than the JFK mystery. Still, highly recommended. Best film I've seen since Her and maybe even better than that.

Khush, I have a feeling you would like a movie called Memories of Murder. It's korean, but it's really fucking good. It's a murder mystery of course, no where near as prolific as JFK's assassination, but it does deal with S. Korea's first serial killer.

Looks interesting. I see it's got some pretty high ratings and it definitely seems like something up my alley of interest. Also, foreign cinema doesn't put me off. In fact, I often find it better than the American remake. I.E, Infernal Affairs > The Departed, Shall We Dance (Japanese) > Shall We Dance (American). I really like Japanese foreign films the most of all foreign movies. Kurosawa, for instance, is just a genius, genius filmmaker. I've watched half of his films. One of my top 5 favorite movies is an Italian Fellini film, 8-1/2. French cinema I find the worst but maybe I've just chosen a lot of the wrong movies to watch. Lately, I've been coming up better French films. Still, I'll make a note of this and add it into my huge list of movies to see. Thanks for the recommendation!

How do I get this card you have? Is it available in North America? Or Canada, which is part of the Commonwealth?

It's part of the Cineworld chain of cinemas over here. It's £225 (about $360) lets me see unlimited movies, gets to see some early, 10% off food and discounts on other non-movie events (i saw Doctor Who's 50th anniversary for £5). Stay with it for 12+ months and 3D movies are free too. It's a UK only thing, though some chains/theatres in the USA may do something similar?

The difference between the one Maxi found and mine is that i can see multiple films a day.

The Raid 2 - BRUTAL. If the first one was aggressive, this one turned everything so far up to 11 my mouth was just stuck open. The final 1-on-1 battle was so intense that the audience actually started applauding. There was a fair bit of shakycam in this, but unlike The Hunger Games this was implying carnage rather than to hide things. Absolutely a definite watch. Insane.
